And all things,
whatsoever
ye shall ask in prayer,
believing,
ye shall receive.
Matt. 21:22

Remember the shortest distance between a problem and the
solution is the distance between our knees and the floor.

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed,
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear,
The upward glancing of an
When none but God is near.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try;
Prayer, the sublimest stains that reach
The Majesty on high.

Prayer is the Christian's vital breath,
The Christian's native air;
His watchward at the gates of death;
He enters heaven with prayer.

The saints, in prayer, appear as one
In word and deed and mind,
While with the Father and Son
Sweet fellowship they find.

O Thou by whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way!
The path of prayer Thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray!

Pray for great things,
expect great things,
work for great things,
but above all, pray.

The Difference

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to do that I didn't take time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task;
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered and He said, "But you didn't ask!"

I wanted to see joy and beauty but the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered "why God doesn't show me?" But He said, "You didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided, "Child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day.
I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

Waiting on God - Prayer and Obedience
~ Philip Rockey, Winsor Locks, CT ~

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him (Psalms 62:5).  As we bow our hearts in prayer there is the acknowledgement that we are wholly dependant upon God for all that we are and have.  In Ephesians 6:18 Paul reminded the saints of the great need for prayer one for another.  In a day when there is so much departure from God and neglect of the Word of God, how much more do we need to pray for one another that we might be preserved.  How many lives that have been shipwrecked might have been preserved if we has only agonized in prayer.

Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are and he prayed and God answered.  It is easy to think that somehow Elijah was vastly different than us and we could never accomplish what he did.  Could I encourage you to read James 5 again.  It does not say that he did great things.  It says that "he prayed."  There are many young people among us with energy and zeal for God.  Could I encourage you to spend time in prayer, not only for your daily needs but for the preservation of God's people.  There are many elderly saints that are feeling the weight of years and not able to labor as they once did.  Could I encourage you to keep on praying.  Only eternity will reveal the glory that has been brought to the Name of the Lord Jesus as a result of your prayers.

Waiting on God not only involves prayer but obedience to His Word.  It grieves us to see young people turn away from the truths that they once professed.  The truths that our forefathers paid dearly for are being lightly esteemed and set aside so easily as if the One who bought us with His blood has no claim upon them.  The Lord said if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed (John 8:31).  Moses esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he has respect unto the recompense of the reward. His eye was on eternity.  The apostle Paul who has suffered the loss of all things could say that he counted them but refuse that he might win Christ (Phil. 3:8).  The broken cisterns of this world's  pleasures or business can never satisfy the heart that has tasted of His love.  What are we investing in for eternity?  Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? (Galations 5:7).

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What  a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry
Everything to God on prayer.

Have we trails and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Blessed Saviour, still our refuge:
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou shalt find a solace there.

HIS PROMISES

Ask Him and you shall receive,
He your burden will relieve;
Cast it all upon the Lord,
Know the surety of His word;
In the plainest words we're told,
No good thing will He withhold.
(Matt. 7:7; Psalm 55:22; Rom. 8:32)

The Blessed Hour of Prayer

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer when our hearts lowly bend,
And we gather to Jesus, our Saviour and Friend;
If we come to him in faith, His protection to share,
What a balm for the weary! O how sweet to be there.

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer when the Saviour draws near
With tender compassion His people to hear;
When He tells us we may cast at His feet every care:
What a balm for the weary! O how sweet to be there.

'Tis the blessed hour of prayer when the tempted and tried,
To the Saviour who loves them, their sorrows confide;
With a sympathizing heart He removes every care:
What a balm for  the weary! O how sweet to be there.

At the blessed hour of prayer, if we firmly believe
That the blessing we ask for we'll surely receive,
In the fullness of delight we shall lose every care:
What a balm for the weary! O how sweet to be there.

NO CHRISTIAN IS GREATER THAN HIS PRAYER LIFE

The church has many organizers, but few agonizers; many who pay, but few who pray; many resters, but few wrestlers; many who are enterprising but few who are interceding.  People who are not praying are playing.

Two prerequisites of dynamic Christian living are vision and passion, and both of these are generated in the prayer closet.  The ministry of preaching is open to a few.  The ministry of praying is open to every child of God.  Don't mistake action for unction, commotions for creation, and rattles for revivals.

The secret of praying is praying in secret. A worldly Christian will stop praying and a praying Christian will stop worldliness.  When we pray, God listens to our heartbeat.  Hannah's "lips" moved, but her voice was not heard     (I Sam. 1:12 - 13).  When we pray in the Spirit there are groanings which cannot be uttered (Rom. 8:26).

Tithes may build a church, but tears will give it life.  That is the difference between the modern church and the early Church.  Our emphasis is on paying, theirs was on praying.  When we have paid, the place is taken.  When they had prayed, the place was shaken (Acts 4:31).

In the matter of effective praying, never have so many left so much to so few.  Brothers and Sisters, let us pray.
