Wayne and I putting in one of the plant beds. I've wanted cattails, even in my first pond, but because they are so invasive and they outgrow their pots so fast, I didn't want to be replanting everytime I turned around. So I made a planting bed for them. Now I can finally have my cattails.

Of course, day one was actually a few days before when we started hauling the river rocks and slate out of the pond and from around the edges, caught the fish, and pulled out the old liner & carpet. That was just prep work though. This is the day we actually started building.
First Week
That's me! It was a cold, rainy day. What a mess to be out in. Had to keep taking things back into the garage to keep it from getting wet. But it had to be done because my poor fish were in the 100 gallon stock tank and I needed to get them out. This was about halfway through the day. We almost had all the 4x4 support boards up.
That's Wayne, my boyfriend. I wonder if he had any idea what was going to go on when he volunteered to help. He did such a good job figuring things out. I would have still been working on it if it weren't for him.
DAY ONE
DAY TWO
DAY THREE
Work on the walls continues. After getting all the 4x4's in place, next came the interior walls. The weather was alittle nicer to us today. No rain, but still chilly for a Florida girl.
Of course my neighbors think I'm crazy. They drive by and stare and wave. But they know that when it's done it will look nice. We used new plywood and some leftover T1-11 that Wayne had for the interior walls. Not very pretty but who cares. It was going to be covered with the liner and the outside will have new T1-11 covering it. Besides the bog for the cattails, we built a bog for other plants also. That way I could have less potted plants on the inside of the pond. (of course, I will probably end up buying more plants for that area too.) The dirt that was piled around the sides went into the bogs. That was Mark's job.
Because we both work Monday through Friday the only time we can really do anything is on the weekends. After work I would get out and do a few things but I was limited in what I was able to do because of the dark.
The underlayment, my neighbors old carpet. They didn't know I was gettting ready to rebuild my pond until I "stole" the carpet (the green stuff) they had set out for the trashmen. When they found out they gave me some more from another room they were redoing. I've been collecting things for about a month while I was planning the work. Again, not very pretty but who cares. We still had 2 sections of the interior wall to put up.

The end of Day 2. Actually the beginning of day 3 since it was late when we finished.
DAYS FOUR THROUGH SIX
One day I built the filter box. This will sit on top of the waterfall. It was hard getting the pieces together but I finally managed.

Finally got the remaining interior walls put up, the pond bottom leveled and the carpet laid back down. Everything is ready to go for tomorrow. (Saturday)
Marked off the section where the filter and falls would go so I could start moving plants around and digging postholes. The pile of dirt you see on the left is actually the bags of topsoil I used to make my first waterfall. The rock covered pot is actually a plastic pot, covered with chicken wire and small rocks cemented around it. It went overtop my original electrical outlets.
Lord was my garage a mess. See the rubbermaid tank in the back right. That's where my fish are.
First two posts are set. Now to let them dry so I can use them as guides for the other two.
