When I paint I want the movement, passion and magic of the dance to come alive and jump off the canvas. The story of each dance form is different. In Latin dances there is a strong partner energy. The Chacha is very playful. Rumba, the dance of love, is sensual and elegant. The Argentine Tango is macho and powerful. All the dances are flirtatious and challenging and always graceful. Great dancers use all of their muscles-alive with passion. ballet is more ethereal, but so powerful. I like to highlight the legs and feet, which are so incredible and strong. Painting, like dancing, is a process. It is always evolving. When I paint I start with live models including my son who is the three time U.S. champion. I do a detailed drawing and then many layers of oil glazes. Next is rendering to add contrast. Then, again, oil glaze. My wish is for the viewer to enjoy the painting and feel the energy and passion. |
