About the Artist
Nancy Flores has been a professional painter and dancer her entire life. She skated with the Ice Follies which brought her to California and she has lived in the Bay Area ever since. She has had a dance studio and competed professionally in International Latin, winning the U.S. title 15 years ago. She still coaches Latin today.
Personal Statement from the artist
When I paint I want the movement, passion and magic of the dance to come alive and jump off the canvas. The story of each dance form is different. In Latin dances there is a strong partner energy.  The Chacha is very playful. Rumba, the dance of love, is sensual and elegant. The Argentine Tango is  macho and powerful. All the dances are flirtatious and challenging and always graceful. Great dancers use all of their muscles-alive with passion. ballet is more ethereal, but so powerful. I like to highlight the legs and feet, which are so incredible and strong.
Painting, like dancing, is a process. It is always evolving. When I paint I start with live models including my son who is the three time U.S. champion. I do a detailed drawing and then many layers of oil glazes. Next is rendering to add contrast. Then, again, oil glaze. My wish is for the viewer to enjoy the painting and feel the energy and passion.
