| Chris Dale's question to himself: Chris: Where can i find out more about Sack Trick? Chris: Why it's all at www.sacktrick.com ! Mike: Do you ever use a stage name? Chris: Before I go on stage I add an "o" to my middle name. Offstage I'm Chris Paulo Dale... then onstage I become Chris Paulo Dale. It's only really noticeable if I have to fill in any forms with blank details while onstage, which doesn't happen often, thankfully. Mike: What tricks can you do with your sack? Chris: I've got the basics down ....hamburger....sausage roll....last chicken in the shop...sinking of the Lusitania... etc etc Mike: How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? Chris: If it only chucked a chunk per chuck, it could probably chuck many chunks chunk chunking each at a time. (I'm glad this is a written interview, not sure I could have said that.) Mike: How long does it take to write/record a Sack Trick masterpiece? Chris: This latest one's taken about seven years, then again we started recording our third album before our first one so that didn't help. Mike: How does Sack Trick financially support itself? (trips to Europe, Channel Islands etc) Chris: We break even. We only do gigs if we can afford to cover the costs of travel accommodation etc etc... unfortunately that's why we can't afford to tour all year. Most real bands have record companiespaying their touring costs...but we'd rather eat our own vomit than take part in those kind of games. Mike: What would you say is the main advantage of being in a band as rock and roll as Sack Trick? Chris: It's pretty cool all round. You get to jam with all your mates, drink beer, go to offshore islands, say silly things at inopportune moments and not have to talk to the music industry. Mike: And any disadvantages? Chris: If there were we'd soon iron them out.... Mike: What is the most rock n roll thing you have ever done? Chris: I did a bunch of those cliched rock'n'roll things. But r'n'r by defination should avoid cliches, so they instantly become void. Probably the most r'n'r thing is releasing a self-financed album about penguins going to the moon. That's pretty r'n'r, it think. Mike: Would you say the music scene today is lacking any true rock and roll stars? Chris: No there're plenty around, we just wont start worshipping them till they've died an ugly death. Mike: When will Sack Trick break into America? Chris: No thank you! Mike: Whos' the most famous friend you have? (other than yourself, if you consider yourself to be a friend...) Chris: ....that'd have to be Robin Guy, I think.... www.sacktrick.com/robinguy Mike: How many bass guitars do you own? Chris: I've got my nice Warwick that i use for Sack Trick ...I've got a nice Musicman that i record and play metal with...I've got a shit Fretless, which suits me fine.....I've got a five string that i don't like... and an ld Aria that i used to play with Atom Seed... that's five I think. But I only really play the first two. Mike: Do you have any with loads of strings? Chris: Yeah the five string's got too many... Mike: Do you have any you don't want? Chris: Yeah the five string.. it's a through neck, with Schaller hardware, EMG pick- ups... 350, anyone? I'll even throw in a hard case with a crack at one end. Email me at [email protected] Mike: What's your favourite string? Chris: I like the A one. It's thick but not too thick. Ragg: When were you born? Chris: At night Ragg: Where did you grow up? Chris: In a sleepy market town in West Wasles called Lampeter Ragg: What was it like growing up there? Chris: Idyllic, Bilingual, Ironic and Violent. In that order. Ragg: What was the music scene like there? Chris: It wasn't bad considering how remote it was. There were quite a few pubs that would put bands on. That's where I did my first Kiss covers. Ragg: What music did you enjoy as a child? Chris: My mum listened to Cat Stevens, he's great... then i got into Maiden and Kiss and now the bloke from Iron Maiden's singing on our Kiss tribute album, so it's all worked out fine. Ragg: About how much equipment would you use to record one of your songs? Chris: We record on home digital studios. I've got a Roland 8 track, Al's got a 16 and Roo's got another 16. A few effects and your off! It's quite simple these days to record to a reasonable quality without breaking the bank. Ragg: What was the last CD you bought? Chris: I got the re-released Vinnie Vincent Invasion for Christmas, it's amazing still! Ragg: When you die (lets hope it's not soon!) how would you like to be remembered? Chris: Music From The Mystery Rabbits would be a start. Ragg: Were your parent's supportive about your musical career? Chris: Yes. Ragg: If you had the chance to go mainstream, would you? Or would you stay loyal to your fans? Chris: It's not so much a matter of staying loyal to anyone or anything. We just don't really want to be involved in the bullshit that is the music industry... and also we're not very commercial so the two sit side by side very well. Don't worry, we're not going to be famous. Hayley: Mr Chris, will you marry me? Chris: My mother told me not the marry people I'd met on the internet. Hayley: Will you have my babies? Chris: Anatomically, no probably not. Katiliius: Do you think there is an elegant way of eating watermelon? Chris: Chopsticks. Ophey: Did you ever think you would become a musician who sang about penguins and alike? Chris: I did have a nagging fear that might happen to me. Ophey: Do you think there should be more craaazy moustaches in rock music? Chris: Definitely. There's a lot of wacky beards out there these days which is good, but there should be more: facial hair can be a real joy to play with. Ophey: Who's your favourite celebrity chef? Chris: I'd have to say Jamie Oliver., but that's only because I can't think of any others. So if you asked who my least favourite was I'd have said the same thing. Ophey: Have you named your moustache? If so, what be it's name? Chris: Errr...no. Should I have? Ophey: Do you name your bass guitars? What are their names? Chris: Erm...should I? Ophey: What's your favourite topic of conversation? Chris: I like to talk about Ben Calvert mainly. Ophey: What's your favourite alcoholic beverage? Chirs: I'm a big fan of Belgian beers. I had a lovely dark Chimay last night ...mmmm... Ophey: Where did you buy your most amazing yellow outfit and goggles from? (you look most spiffing in them dear!) Chris: Robin Guy does a lot of my onstage styling... Ophey: What's your favourite aspect of Christmas? Chris: Robin Guys' new stage costume. This year he was an angel with a sparkly halo. Ophey: Have Sack Trick arranged to go carol singing this year? Chris : That was our tour! |
