Where to begin? I have LOVED Nanci Griffith's music since around 1988. I was listening to WUSC, our college radio station, when they played a song from "One Fair Summer Evening." This is a live concert album. Mostly just Nanci and her acoustic guitar. I loved it right away. I went out and bought that album. Then in a few more days bought an earlier album. Then to top it all off I found out that she was going to be playing in town at Greene Streets! She actually did two shows that night. I made it for the second show. Greene Streets was a small and intimate club. It was an excellent way to see Nanci. Those small club days are gone now.
Nanci has since gone onto fame in the Folk world. She even won a Grammy Award for one of her folk albums. She definitely plays folk music. But then she also plays country, pop, rock-a-billy, etc. One of her albums, "Blue Roses From The Moons," was recorded with her childhood heroes The Crickets. You know. As in Buddy Holly and The Crickets.
I have seen Nanci three times since that first show. Once with The Crickets, the touring version of the Newport Folk Festival, and with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. At the Newport show I smuggled a disposable camera in and actually got to go right in front of the stage to take a couple of pictures. Of course, none of them turned out very well. That is my luck.
