I have been hearing about Danielle Howle a long time. Sometime around 1988 I worked with Dan Cook (now with The Verna Cannon) in a totally non-musical capacity. Dan was a member of Lay Quiet Awhile along with Danielle....for some reason I never got to see them play, but for years afterward I would read Free Times and Danielle was always mentioned in the Columbia music scene. Anyway, I finally got to see her perform when she opened for Juliana Hatfield in 1997 at the Elbow Room in Columbia, SC. Since that time I have seen her perform numerous times solo and with the band.
If you see Danielle solo, you can expect a more talkative, reflective, acoustic show. I've seen her recite poetry, sing a cappella, you name it and she might do it. I just love to hear her unusual observations on life.
With the band she is less talkative and more rocking. Their music can not be pigeon-holed into any one category. Some songs are knock-down rock and roll. Some could be called country. The only constant is that they put on an excellent show with a good dose of humor. Do yourself a favor and go see them when they come to your town!!!
A couple of years ago Danielle mentioned that she would be releasing a video documentary of her life, music, etc. I haven't heard anything about it since.
