| A Fighter's Blues is Andy Lau's 100th movie, maybe that's why much a hoo-haa was made when this movie came out. I was disappointed after watching the film, because I had higher expectations since this was his 'first century' movie, especially after the excellent "Running Out Of Time [AAn Zan]".. The story is about a boxer, Ah Hu who had just been released from prison. He went to Thailand in search of his beloved, Pim only to find that she was already dead. Then, he found that he had a daughter Ploy who was placed in an orphanage run by fake nun Tokako Tokiwa. (Such a chio nun??) The story tried to squeeze father and daughter relationship, father and "nun" relationship and father and boxing relationship all in one and a half hours, which I thought was like a whirlwind, cramming all information to the audience at one go. However, I liked the visuals of this film and it kept reminding me of another film that I had liked. I did a little research and found that the director Danny Lee Yan-Gong was also the director for "Black Mask [Hei Xia]" "Moonlight Express (?) [Xing Yue Tong Hua] & "Till Death Do Us Part [Wo Ai Ni]" The cast was not exceptionally good but Thai actress Indira Jaroenpura left a deep impression though she had only about half hour's (or less) screen time. She reminds me of Karen Mok. Anyway, I think that the movie might be better if it was purely about the father and daughter relationship and his struggle to keep his boxer's dignity. Unfortunately, I suspected Tokako Tokiwa was cast so that the movie could make it in Japan. This movie was nominated for Best Actor, Best Cinematography & Best Editing in HKFA 2001 |

| The OST was fortunately much better than the movie. Andy Lau has released 115 albums in his twenty odd years. Not a surprise if they count the number of compilations he had but I was surprsied to hear that he had released 4 Japanese albums, HONTO NI???? Me, an ardent fan tried to crack my head 3 days and 4 nights but can only think of 1 Japanese album that he had. Anyone knows?? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| A Fighter's Blues reminds me of Days of Tomorrow [Tian Chang Di Jiu] where the story was told through the daughter of Andy Lau acted by [Hilary something, Eason's GF?] | |||||||||||||||||||||||
