DC Talk is a very unique band. They are one of the hottest Christian bands around today (and yesterday). They are a pretty old band originating back to the early 90's, but became popular in the mid 90's.
Their first big hit album was 'Free At Last.' On this album you will hear a lot of rapping and early 90's type of music. Many songs on this album have died with yesterday due to the ever turning tide of popular musical style. It is still a pretty cool album, and most everyones favorite song on it is a remake of the song, 'Jesus is Just Alright.' Cool songs on the album are 'Love is a Verb' and 'Say the Word.'
Although this was a breakthrough album to the Christian music realm, their big break through would be in their next album. 'Jesus Freak' earned the band a lot of radio play and respect. As of now it has gone platinum 1 and 1/2 times. One of their biggest hits, as far as radio play goes, is the 4th track on the album entitled, 'What If I Stumble.' This is one of the more slower songs. On 'Jesus Freak' the rap kind of tapered away, or at least the 80's style of rap. According to most fans and to us, the song 'Jesus Freak' for which the album got its name, is the best DC Talk song written, and will probably remain their best song. It combines rap and rock in a way far before its time. It really makes you proud to be a Christian. It almost makes you want people to make fun of you for being a Christian. 'Jesus Freak' delivers a very awesome message, saying to stand firm in your beliefs, no matter what the world thinks or even does. That is why DC Talk's newest book, about the Christian martyr's lives, is called 'Jesus Freaks.'Other cool songs on the album include 'So Help Me God' and 'Between You and Me.'
DC Talk has a very unique sound as reflected in all of their albums, including 'Jesus Freak.' Their most recent album is titled, 'Supernatural.' This is a lot like 'Jesus Freak' except with a little different feel. Its more mellow and at the same time, more punky. You wouldn't get what I mean by that unless you listen to DC Talk or that album. There are rocky songs like 'My Friend' and 'Since I Met You' to soft ballad songs such as 'Fearless' and 'Red Letters.' This is a great album and we suggest that you buy it. You'll find it at most CD stores and at almost all Christian Music stores.
DC Talk has a VERY wide variety of styles of music. In each album, they include a little Rap, Rock, Punk, and Soft/contemporary. Soon they will release their fourth album, 'Intermission.' This album is a Greatest Hits album. DC Talk is one of my favorite bands and they are worth checking out!
