Lucille

When I am down and feeling blue,
I turn my mind to thoughts of you.
With strength of purpose, year after year,
You live and love, hold back the tears...
which a mother should release,
For husband and children too soon gone,
for wars and conflicts never won,
for miles between the ones you love,
for fervent prayers whispered above...
for the pain to finally cease.
How long has it been since you could hear
the sound of laughter in your ears,
and understand each word that's spoken,
or searched for faith in a heart that's broken
and needing to be restored?
Memories come and memories go
and sometimes the truth is hard to know.
Your body betrays you as the years roll by.
You stumble and fumble and wonder why
things can't be as before.
We need to learn when the sun's going down
that happiness within can still be found
and a family's outward way of caring
may not portray their need for sharing
how much you're really loved.
So have no fear for tomorrow's events,
though the flowers all die and the mail's unsent.
it matters not those little things,
for the sun will shine and the birds will sing
and your needs will be met by the One above!
