Basics
Group: Desdemona.
Senshi: Sailorkaran
Civilian Name: Dasha Abeienda Pembroke
Name Meaning: Divine Display (Greek) Opening (Spanish) A Broken Hill (Unlisted Origin)
Birthday: December 28
Appearance:
General Appearance: Dasha is not
wide in any way, as much matter as possible was conserved in making her,
it seemed. Many of her bones are actually visible through her tightly
drawn skin. Even if she did eat a lot, which she doesn’t opt to,
she probably would have quite the time trying to get her bones to be covered
by something more than the thin skin she has. She is not very muscular,
either, at least not yet. She isn’t very powerful, but she is slowly
becoming more and more into her adult form. She is about a head higher
than most of the people her age and always wished she were one of the short
people who could hide away when she needed to. Dasha deals with her
height as best she can and takes what she is dealt most of the time.
Her movements are very stiff and jumpy, not relaxed and smooth as dancers
are. She moves more like a robot, her movements short and clipped.
She walks rather quickly, almost trotting. The one thing that is
probably fairly noticeable about Dasha is the fact that her left shoulder
is higher than her right. It isn’t be much and some people might
say that it’s just the way she stands, but if you look, she does have one
higher than the other, no matter how straight and even she stands.
Face: Armed with a tightly skinned
nose, visible cheekbones, a stoic jaw and down-turned corners of her mouth,
Dasha tends to be somewhat beautiful, but in a severe, cold way.
She doesn’t often use her facial muscles to give a happy, cheerful smile
but more keeps a rather indifferent look to her face with the slight hint
of a scowl. But when Dasha does unveil her smile it is white and
almost makes one think of that ‘ping’ sound from commercials.
Features: Dasha has somewhat tanned
skin that still shows the fact that it is slightly fair. Her skin
is slightly oily, but even if she stayed in the sun for days on end, it
would never dry out. She has wavy dark brown hair that falls to the
middle of her upper arm. There are natural highlights that run through
it every so often, they have random placements. She has bangs that
fall in waves down to her ears which she sometimes sweeps back, but often
leaves out to frame her face. Dasha’s eyes are a rich, deep almost
chocolate brown, framed by short lashes and accented by her eyebrows that
sweep in an elegant fashion.
Dress: Most often, Dasha is seen
wearing her school uniform: the sleeveless regal black gown with the long
white gloves, a dainty black choker and a pair of earrings of a gemstone
– most likely Hematite or Onyx – in a silver surrounding. She usually
wears highly polished black Mary Jane’s. She would wear heals, but
she feels tall enough already. The only thing she would add to this,
when and if she can is things like a white over shirt, an elegant hat,
and other things to hide her unsightly bones. When it gets cold enough
to wear a coat, Dasha prefers to wear a heavy, thick coat. She doesn’t
tend to be someone who enjoys light, showy clothing but is more of a covered-up
person who likes to look elegant and powerful. When she isn’t wearing
her school uniform, which isn’t often at all, she usually wears something
of a similar caliber: black and refined.
Voice: Dasha’s voice is very quiet
and raspy, mostly because she doesn’t want to say much for fear of torment
by her peers or being smacked around by her mother and grandmother.
She tends to speak either as a scared child or very coldly and logically,
depending on her setting. She tends to speak more and more in the
second tone now a days.
Birthplace: Dasha was born in the mountains in a little village.
Race: Ogre
Current Living Arrangement: She used to live more in the mountains than in the town, but would visit Concord on the occasion, but usually only when something is necessary, she doesn’t enjoy wasting things at all, especially not her energy on something petty like entertainment. Work first, then fun. When she was first able to go to school she did and now attends Titania's.
Zodiac Sign: Capricorn
Age: 20
Blood Type: O
History: Born happily to an already dysfunctional family, Dasha only seemed to make it worse. She cried many nights as a baby and her father tried to console her tears while her mom just got into a frustrated rage. The older she got, the more she got to visit Grammy and know what she was telling her to do, and the more she did things, the harder she was beaten, the more she cried. When she hit about 8, she started to wander around the village more and more, her parents let her with her friend-since-she-could-remember Akuji, and the more exploring, questioning and wondering she’d do. She soon made another friend: Alvin. Though her mother would sometimes get furious for befriending another race, her family didn’t really tend to mind their friendship. By the time she was 12, she’d gotten to be the older sibling of the family, no longer the baby and was going to school, which she sadly couldn’t share with Akuji, though Alvin was there and she was happy for that. She went back to her village every chance she could, to be with Akuji and her little brother Liam. He always wanted to learn how to fight to help the family and Dasha was always happy to watch a session of self-defense, as taught by her mom. The older she got, the less she seemed to visit, though she did when they had a long break. She focused more and more heavily on her studies as the studies grew more and more intertwined with magic and she couldn’t avoid the studying and the continued attempts to keep her studies up and let her magic she knew was there somewhere leak out – but the barrel it was in only seemed to be containing the littlest possible because of her stress on it all the time, her using it every chance she got. School kept getting harder and harder for her to cope with, her marks slowly fell, little by little. Dasha has been working herself harder and harder, straining her magic more and more. She thinks there must be some way to free up the magic she has, and she can feel the strains of her abuse to herself taking their toll, circles under her eyes more often than not, a tired, ragged appearance some of the time. She tries to keep her act up but she herself knows she’s slowly falling apart.
Personality: Dasha is a determined, hardworking, strong-willed girl. She doesn’t try to talk to the boulders to move them, she just goes up around and over them, not caring whose toes she steps on or anything so frivolous and irrelevant like that. She’s always serious in what she says, she doesn’t like to joke and fool around with what needs to be done – which so happens to be just about everything. She always succeeds at what she tries, no matter what the cost. No matter how many pushes and shoves she gets, no matter how many hits she has to take, she’ll make it to the top, end up rising triumphant over all else. But she doesn’t work quickly unless it is necessary: time is the key to her. She usually keeps her feelings covered up and hidden, she’s rather cool in that respect, never flaring up without very good reason. She’s no hot head, no matter how much her family is. She’s more of a planner than a doer, she looks at the big picture, and the long-term effects, not the short-term ones, the one that’ll help right now. That’s why she doesn’t rush into decisions, she slowly let’s them percolate in her brain, slowly letting the things that will come out good in the long run slowly ooze out, almost. Dasha wants three things: power, position, and reputation. It doesn’t matter how much work or time it takes; she can take plenty of both. But the thing she really looks for is the traditional way of doing things, the way the people before did it, the way it worked. She believes strongly that “The old way is the best way” purely because it’s something to build from and something that people have already figured out that works. She thinks she has to leave the world the same or better than she left it, otherwise it would be a waste. She thinks that the best way to do work is in an orderly framework, so that the work will build easily, upon that experience that someone before learned. If it’s just going to be all messy, why bother doing the work at all? It’s simpler to keep it orderly as you do it than organize the mess at the end, while time slowly runs out. Dasha also takes great pride and pleasure in the richness of her family, indulging in expensive gifts and showing off how hard she worked to get the beautiful jewelry or clothes or whatever it may be. Something that Dasha prides herself very much on is the way that the older and the wiser she gets, the more the numbers add up, the better she seems to get: the stronger, the taller, the wiser, the more en-route to her rightful place.
Family:
Jason Pembroke (Healer of a Broken
Hill) – Dasha’s father, a guidance counselor-like figure who she positively
doesn’t understand. Aged 56, Jason doesn’t like it when people argue
or do anything to hurt one another – which is probably his great downfall.
He’ll be completely selfless if it means helping someone else whom is fighting
with someone or isn’t getting along well. He is the stay-at-home
dad who always wants to help the children grow up to be something great
and wonderful. He is very emotional and tends to ramble on about
how he feels today and always cares more about people’s feelings than anything
else. Standing two heads higher than his daughter, Jason has chin-length
light brown hair and hazy dark green eyes. He wears loose clothes,
and likes fringe and beads. In modern words, he’s a hippie.
Dasha doesn’t get along well with her father at all, mostly because he
ruined her life trying to counsel her and her friend and enemies, blabbing
the occasional deep dark secret to try and resolve the problem through
similar experiences. That usually only made Dasha scream and storm
off.
Blythe Fordon Pembroke (Happy to
Destroy a Broken Hill) – Dasha’s mom, who tends to think along the same
lines as Aldona, only on a different plane. Blythe has sparkling
gold hair, and eyes of a fire’s red. A head shorter than her husband,
she seems sparkly and happy when in public. But not is always the
case. Her face is usually shades of red, mostly fury red, a bright
pink that makes her eyes seem to have a crackle and a spark in them.
She doesn’t often turn the embarrassed sort of pink, but she is very violent
and loud when she’s angry and that is when anything displeases her.
She’ll upturn tables and chairs, beat the walls until they break, shred
anything that gets in her way. She hates it when people disobey her;
she doesn’t stand in any way for what her husband’s mother does.
Most people think that she and her husband got together just so she’d have
someone to tell her to stop and listen to her problems, but no one can
tell. She gets along well with Dasha at times, except after she’s
at her grandmother’s where she’ll tend to just sit scared in a corner,
unmoving for a little while, which Blythe doesn’t approve of. She
will tell her daughter to go work, and when she doesn’t, blasts into a
fit of rage.
Aldona Laird Pembroke (Old Head
of the Household, a Broken Hill) – Dasha’s grandmother who she has learned
never to obey or address as ‘Granny.’ Dasha’s grandmother who she
visited often as a child and her only surviving grandparent was always
Dasha’s least favorite. Telling her to do things like “Go draw on
the walls” and “Go beat up the cat” and various other unacceptable things,
then whacking her with a coat hanger for obeying orders. A twisted
woman, she was able to inflict serious mental and physical damage to Dasha,
and probably Jason, her son. She was always the dominant figure,
never to be obeyed or disobeyed no matter what. Luckily, she has
become too old to harass Liam but just looking at her, Dasha gets the chills.
A fairly short woman for an ogre, about normal human height, Aldona has
curly white hair and is bent over, always holding her wooden cane, another
implement of destruction. She almost always has a mean scowl on her
face and a loud voice – the quality and tone of your average mean screaming
old lady. Dasha is terrified of her grandmother, mostly because she
is terrified of the beatings she’ll get. Dasha will not stand up
to Granny no matter how old and mature she gets, she knows she’ll only
get beaten down harder than ever.
Liam Howard Pembroke (Determined
Guardian of the Home on a Broken Hill) –Dasha’s eight-year-old little brother
who knows to defend his dear-sweet sister. A bright-eyed, bushy-tailed
little dirty blonde haired boy, his purple eyes always know to smile at
the right people – which is just about everyone – and shy away from others
– like his grandmother. Liam doesn’t like all the violence in his
house and often likes to sit with his dad and look at picture books.
Already very muscular, Liam doesn’t like to just hurt people at random
because he’s strong enough like his mom and grandmother, he prefers to
be more on the defensive than the offensive. He doesn’t want anything
to happen to his home, he’s scared that one day people will come and burn
it because his mom’s too mean for her own good and always bothering people
with her yelling. Liam wants to keep watch over the house, he doesn’t
want to leave and go off to school, no matter how much he may need it.
He wants to stay at home and keep all the mean people away, and protect
his mom, dad and sister, he doesn’t really like his grandmother either.
Dasha respects her little brother and thinks he’s cute how he wants to
save the family from everyone else. She enjoys the company of her
little brother very much and likes to tell him stories when she’s home.
Friends:
Alvin Dacey (Noble Friend of Down
Below) – A nymph who lives and helps protect the mountain Dasha and her
family live on, Alvin one day got bored staying with the nymphs and went
over to meet with the ogres. At first, he was confused on who and
what they were. Dasha saw the newcomer peeking around a rock wall
and went over to him. They slowly got to know each other, and the
more they did, the better they liked one another. Alvin is a comedian,
and enjoys making his friends laugh, watching their eyes sparkle.
He is very loud, the showman of the group, and doesn’t like to be upstaged,
no matter by who. He’ll go into a fit if dragged off stage when he
doesn’t want to be. Though he never performs in Concord, he does
want to. He’s just a little nervous of the reaction. Though
he is much shorter than Dasha and Akuji, he likes to stand on the rock
wall, where they often meet up, and pretend to be taller than them, pointing
fingers and laughing with a deep imitative voice. Alvin has spiky
peachy blonde hair and beady black eyes, and enjoys wearing the color red.
Dasha does get along with Alvin very well, though sometimes his voice does
get a little squeaky and hard on the ears. He likes little animals
when they come to visit, especially chipmunks. Alvin is the same
age as Dasha, a younger month-and-day wise. Alvin attends school
at Concord U, but wishes he could hang around at Titania’s more, to be
with Dasha... and maybe some of the other girls.
Akuji Casondra Lorna (Dead and Awake,
Not Alone) – A somewhat introverted ogre, Akuji is very independent and
doesn’t laugh much, though Alvin’s antics do make her crack a smile.
Stronger than Dasha or Alvin, Akuji is often very confused. She isn’t
much of the brainiac at all, she’s more of the dopey strong one, though
not as dopey as many cartoons and things portray. She’s just very
unassociated with most of the world and wants to go out exploring but wonders
if something bad would happen to her. Though she’s not the quickest
figure of the trio, she is the strongest and will pound someone – sometimes
the wrong someone – if told to. Akuji’s height is not much greater
than Dasha’s but her muscles are usually hidden under loose-sleeved shirts
and loose, sometimes poofy, pants. Her hair is black, coming only
to her shoulders. But the more striking thing about her hair is her
bangs: they come down to her nose and forever cover her eyes and the facial
expressions made with that half of the face. Dasha gets along well
with Akuji, even though Dasha sometimes has to spell things out in the
simplest way for her friend. Akuji does not attend school in Concord.
What Makes Them Tick?
22. Favorite Gemstone? Onyx. It is abundant near her and she has developed a love for it, not to mention the beautiful black color it has.
Favourite Colour: Black because of its ability to show a superiority and elegance over all other colors, and is something that shows just who is boss.
Favourite Food: Salads, small usually.
Least Favourite Food: Big, intricate meals with course after course after course.
Reasoning: She doesn’t like to spend all her time on food, food, and food. She’d rather just get her fuel and move on to more important things.
Favourite Animal: Dasha’s favorite animal is the eagle, more generally birds of prey. She loves the way they can just glide around and watch things and then strike and capture the useless parts of nature for prey, not to mention how elegant they are in all of this.
Hobbies: Usually, Dasha doesn’t have any hobbies but sitting in her room studying and trying to improve her grades in whatever way she can. If she’s not, for whatever reason, she usually is otherwise hanging out with Alvin somewhere in Concord.
Likes: Tradition, status, history, work, good reputation, mountains, a predatory feeling
Dislikes: Wasting time, pathetic people, flat ground, quick decision making, short cuts, people ruled by their emotions.
Education Evaluation ^^;
School: Titania's Institute for Girls
Grade: 2nd year of College.
Classes:
-- History of Demons and Monsters
(Advanced)
-- Literature
-- Introduction to Magic (Advanced)
-- Advanced Spells
-- Chemistry
-- History of Kabria
Marks: Dasha struggles very much to get good marks, due to her low magical level. Hers is higher than the rest of her family, but it gets tired out very quickly. She struggles to get an average grade, which is what she often ends up getting in magical studies. In more logical subjects such as Literature and Chemistry, she gets very high marks because it comes easier to her. She just seems to store that information well.
Viewed In School: In school, Dasha gets a lot of criticism for being an ogre, and having a low magical ability. Though her family is fairly well off, she is still pointed at and ridiculed for being an ogre, even more for one that isn’t too terribly strong. Many people see her as a big, dumb ogre and she doesn’t like that one bit, but she puts up.
Romantic Ties: Dasha currently does
not have a boyfriend or a romantic interest of any sort, she sees that
more as a pleasure than something required and so she just pushes it back
behind, to be saved until her studies and work are done. If anyone
would want to be with Dasha, they would have to prove that they wouldn’t
get in the way of her goals and that they would know just where they stood
with her instead of just doing things on the whim. She also would
be very hard, very forceful, in her expression of love.
Senshi stuff
Henshin: “Karan Shattered, Make-Up!” – Dasha holds up her henshin item with both hands above her head, then lowers it so that her arms are at a 90 degree angle to her body, showing her symbol (see fuku description) embedded in the wood. She takes her hands off of the item and it lingers in midair for a moment before sinking into her chest and leaving the symbol there. The white bodice explodes out in a flash of white light. Mustard yellow ribbons come out and accents the bodice and forms a layer where they should be at the shoulder placement. The dark red shoulder pads come out in a Jell-O-like blurb on the mustard yellow piece already there. Her skirt flies out from under the bodice. Then the shoulder pads (which have solidified) crack and a piece falls out. Her bodice rips, then quickly sews itself back together with the contrasting black thread. The symbol remains in the centre of her chest the whole time, her eyes closed. Her pants fly out in a rush of mustard yellow fabric, then quickly latch onto her skin and pieces just seem to fall out. Her feet become wrapped up in ribbons of dark red that flash into her shoes. Her gloves appear, fully intact. As she slips them onto her hands, the gashes appear. Finally, her centre tiara jewel appears, swinging against her head and with each soft impact, another pair of mustard yellow and another pair silver beads appear on the tiara on her forehead, one on each side. She opens her eyes and ends with her arms crossed over her chest, like a mummy, eyes open and staring forward, and her feet together, standing straight in front of a mustard yellow back drop with a splash of dark red.
Henshin Item: The top half of the cane her grandmother used to beat her with, broken on the bottom. It’s made of a darkly polished wood and has that rounded handle on the top of it.
Fuku: Sailorkaran’s fuku looks relatively like the Azuka fuku at first glance, but isn’t quite the same at second. Her tiara is much the same: a large raindrop-shaped jewel in her primary color, dark red, in the centre with many little secondary-colored, a.k.a. mustard yellow, beads alternating with silver ones. Her bodice seems pretty much the same: mustard yellow accents on the top and bottom, dark red shoulder pads with mustard yellow on the bottom of those, and her symbol; a mustard yellow circle with 8 dark red points around the edges coming together in a red asterisk with a dot of yellow in the centre and her short dark red skirt extending from beneath. With the exception, of course, of the black thread sewing up the crooked line that splits the snow-white bodice in half and the crooked lines reaching from the symbol up and out to where the shoulder pads touch the bodice, along with another stray line just reaching out of the symbol and ending halfway to its destination on the lower right side of Sailorkaran’s body. There are also deep cracks in the shoulder pads, and a piece is missing of each. Her gloves are elbow-length dark red leathery material, widening out gradually, with the important addition of three large gashes through them; one half way through at the wrist, another halfway through at about mid-forearm and a third, the largest, at three-quarters forearm. Another important addition to Sailorkaran’s fuku is a pair of legging-like pants: tightly fitting and mustard yellow. But these pants also have the important addition of gashes to them, two across the thigh on each leg (one front, one back each), one at the knee on the right, another just below on the left, nearly severing the pants on that side, one on the back of the right calf, two small ones on the front of the left calf. She also has slipper-like dark red shoes adorning her feet, they cover the entire foot.
Attacks:
“Scorning Voices!” – Sailorkaran
grips the symbol at the centre of her chest and leans her head down whispering
“Scorning.” She then lifts her head up and looks helplessly at her
victim as she softly mutters, “Voices.” At this, she flings her arms
wide and her face turns into a manical smile as voices begin to speak to
the person, just inside their head and theirs alone. Her smile quickly
dissipates but the voices last for a few minutes, shunning the person’s
actions, making them feel unwanted and sometimes turning them to the other
side while the voices are in control. The attack only lasts a few
minutes so usually side turning does not happen, except to those weak of
will. Sailorkaran can use this attack several times in battle; it
doesn’t wear her out too much.
“Rod of Disorder! ” – Sailorkaran
calls this out and raises her hand up as her henshin item appears once
again, and then through a short flash of dark red light it is fully restored.
Using this, she can attack persons obeying orders. That is the only
way this attack can work. To make this easier (it may seem confusing),
an example:
Let's just say that Evelina gave
the order to attack. Let's say Ashia attacks. Karan can now
use this attack to beat Ashia up to an extent.
This attack only works to the caliber
her grandmother would beat people, so it hurts but doesn’t go on long.
The only way to get out of the attack is to disobey someone in some way.
This is the only instance where Sailorkaran has a weapon and it isn’t even
for a long time.
History on Future Concord: Born into
a slightly similar situation as this life, Dasha, formerly called Ince
Osborne (Innocent Soldier of God), had an abusive, often drunk, father,
and the sweetest mother anyone ever knew. While her mother stayed
home and baked cookies, her dad was working for his paycheck just to get
another drink. Ince knew she could do something about it, when she
heard of a faction starting up against the President. She gladly
joined, never thinking that anyone should have such a supreme power over
everyone and his word was law, to be followed by everyone. Ince knew
that she had to take on some power and the strongest power she knew, the
thing that fueled any rage she’d ever had was what her father did; abusing
his family without second thought. Ince was somewhat young when she
joined up and had never been told why her father did these things, so she
took up her power.
During the fights, her fuku was
constantly getting ripped and pulled at, people begging for mercy or trying
to do to her what she’d done to them. Her pants seemed to get the
most abuse. In one fight, she tried to guard her face with her gloves
against a shape-shifter, who had become a large, clawed beast, and both
her gloves got the giant gashes on them. The thing about her fuku
that was different than most others was that she retained the more serious
tears in it rather than them being repaired. In the final battle,
one of the Azuka killed her with a deadly blow to her chest, tearing her
bodice apart as she lay down for the last time, her powers laid to rest
for a long time coming.
Writing Sample:
Dasha ran quickly along the
streets of Concord, somehow seeming to clatter despite their leather soles.
She powered her legs as fast as they would go, she had to get back to her
school. She’d been hanging out with Alvin a little too long, somehow she
had lost track of the time and now she was going to be late. She
wasn’t ever late, at least not any more, now that she had something she
knew she had to do.
Hurrying, she made sure that
she had everything she was supposed to as she ran to her dorm quickly,
she was still in her school uniform so there was no worry there.
She had to get her books quickly, but before she ran back through the halls
to her class, her eyes snagged a gift her grandmother had given her.
The old cane ran a chill up
her spine, she knew there was something horribly evil in it, but she knew
that it was hears and she couldn’t just throw it into a fire. Not
just because it was a present, but because it attracted her to it in some
strange, underlying way. Would this be the thing that would help
her magic?
