| I chewed my food with extreme, almost comical care; every texture prodded and explored by my tongue before being slowly and laborously grinded between my molars and then finally, much to the relief of that woman, allowed to slide down to my digestion organs. "So," I asked around probings, "what do you want?" She stared at the clump of masicated foos move alonf my throat. I hated her eyes- a sickening frozen pea-green dort of color that matching the equally unnerving tones of her skin. "Oh, I... I'm here to talk to you son, that's all." She opend her mouth her mouth like a donkey trying to ease me with a smile. "How are you today?" "Peachy, life is jsut peachy." She doesn't like the donkey-tooth smile when I try it. "Really, and what have you been doing?" School, playing video games, talking to friends, normal answers flash through my mind and almost come out, but they would all be lies. "Nothing much. Watching Tv, reading these.." I sneered at the slpay of Highlights and Zoobooks magazines on the table. "Do you like animals, Jimmy?" She has a run in those cheap pantyhose. All the way from her shoe to up under her skirt. I get the feeling it sops there, just under the hem. "No I don't like animals." I don't want to lie to her, but she makes it so tempting... "Do you know why I came to talk to you today?" "No," nor did I particuarly care. Scuffed heels. " I'm goingto tell you a secret: you're going home." "What?" "Home-" I ran acros sthe room, into the bathroom, locked the door, smashed my fist into the linoleum wall. What the hell? "Jimmy?" He voice even sounds pea green. Sort of thin and with a bad aftertaste. "Come on out, Jimmy. Let's talk some more." What were my parents doing? Bringing me home- I'd be back here in a month. They'd get so fucking sick of me --or worse. Back to that other place... I stay there all day. Eventually the woman sighs and walks out, leaving me alone with my children's magazines and pills. |
