Stenhousemuir Away: Three to Miss Out
Stenhousemuir provide the opposition for Nairn County on Saturday as Les Fridge's side enter phase two of their build up to the new Highland League side. The match takes place at Ochilview Park, Larbert with a 3.00 pm kick off.
The SFL Third Division outfit will prove to be another tough opponent for County after their workout against Livingston on Tuesday night. The Warriors - coached by Campbell Money, a former team-mate of Fridge at St Mirren - finished seventh in last season's Third Division and have brought in a raft of new players as they look to mount a challenge for a promotion playoff spot. They have also recently laid a synthetic pitch at Ochilview which will provide another challenge for the Nairn players.
Fridge was looking forward to another tough game, but he wouldn't have it any other way. He said: "We could play against lesser sides such as welfare or amateur teams and get a lot of the ball but I think when you are playing better sides you get more out of the game. Granted, they will make you work harder but I think it is a better pre-season exercise to be made to work as opposed to it being easy."
All of the players came through Tuesday's clash with Livingston unscathed but Willie Barron, Iain Brooks and Duncan Jones will all miss out on the trip due to work or other commitments. On a brighter note, close season signings Chris Finnigan and Scott Graham will travel and are expected to debut, while other summer captures Angus Lawrie, John Calder and Shaun Kerr are again likely to be involved.
Despite admitting to being open to adding more new faces to the squad, Fridge does not expect to have any further signings through the door before Saturday's match. He said: "I have always said that I'm on the lookout out and if I think that there is someone who I think will add
Duncan Jones, one of three players who will miss out on Saturday
something to our squad then I will take them in. I will be keeping my eyes open and we'll wait and see."
