Post Match Reaction: Boss Unhappy With Performance
Two goals in the second half from Willie Barron saw Nairn overcome a one-goal half time deficit to claim three points from their home match with Wick Academy. But manager Les Fridge was far from pleased with his side's showing overall throughout the 90 minutes. He said: "I thought we didn't play well at all, We weren't at the races at times today, especially in the first half.
"We changed it with 35 minutes to go when we put three up front and I thought that changed the game in our favour. But we were second to things and looked a little bit lethargic. After playing against the
league champions Keith last week and probably playing them off the park in spells, I thought we were a bit complacent today by comparison."
He added: "I think this is a sign of the way it's going to be this season. Like Rothes a few weeks ago, they (Wick) are a big, strong, well organised team and I think we're going to get a lot of games like this but we are grinding out results."
Barron's double on 67 and 70 minutes turned to game after Shaun Henstridge had put the visitors in front after 25 minutes.
Fridge said: "Willie's first goal was a great goal and his second was worthy of winning any game.
"They had one corner and one shot on goal in the first half and they scored. It was a bit of poor defending by us and I thought in general we were quite slack in the first half.
"Then when we went to three up front, we finished the game very strongly and once we got 2-1 in front we didn't look in much danger. It was an important in for us."
Chris Finnigan's injection of pace changed the game
The manager added: "I have always said that we will play a lot better and get nothing out of games and I think that we are going to have to grind out results more and more."
The introduction of signing Chris Finnigan and the subsequent tactical change that led to the former Elgin City man being joined by Shaun Kerr and Willie Barron in attack ultimately led to County's turnaround in fortunes during the last half an hour. Fridge said: "When we went to three up front, I thought the game turned in our favour because they had gone from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 leaving just one man up front to shut up shop. That meant we had to open things up and make things happen up front and the introduction of Finnigan with his pace definitely did that."
Fridge's side now prepare to travel to Inverurie next Saturday on league duty. The top of the table clash with pit the only two sides left with a 100% league record against one another so something will have to give at Harlaw Park. Fridge said: "Every game is a tough game. This has been a hard game today like every other one is but next week is one to look forward to. We are the underdogs which is fine and we will go there and give it our all."
