| 22/7/07 Post Match Reaction: Lack of Goals No Concern to Fridge Nairn County's latest pre-season friendly saw them defeated by five goals to nil at home by Peterhead on Saturday. The club have also confirmed that they will take on junior side Bishopmill United on Tuesday evening. The game takes place at New Elgin's Pinefield Park in Elgin, kick off 7.30 pm. On paper it may have looked as if Nairn were well beaten in Saturday's five-goal defeat to the Blue Toon but the balance of play was hardly fully reflected in the scoreline. The hosts came out and made a positive start to the match, something that hadn't been seen in their other two pre-season outings but were stung by four quick fire goals before the break. |

| Manager Les Fridge told the site immediately after full time: "I thought we started the game very well for the first 15 minutes before they got the first goal. Our shape was good and we were organised. But we lost a goal and then a quick second against this calibre of team and the heads went down a wee bit. We lost our shape a wee bit towards the end of the first half but we came out in the second half and did a lot better and worked really hard." He added: "As I keep saying, this is pre-season and it is probably the same quotes as I said last year when we were beaten by Ross County, Forfar, Dundee United and Livingston. The calibre of team we are playing against shows and I thought they were a very good team today. I went through and watched them (Peterhead) play Forres last night and that is not the same team I watched because they had trialists and young boys playing last night. "Take nothing away from them because they are a very good team but the second half was a lot better and more positive from us. "We missed a penalty, their goalie had a couple of saves and we had a fresh air swipe in front of goal so it wasn't all doom and gloom." |

| Scott Nicholl will go under the knife this week | |||||||||
| Nairn have now clocked up three pre-season fixtures and have yet to find the net but that is something that isn't concerning the manager. He said: "Against Livingston and Stenhousemuir we created chances and we have even missed a penalty today. In five big games against Scottish League and SPL opposition last year we only managed to score two goals and one was a penalty against Ross County and like I say, last year's pre-season is on a par with this year's. It's not like we're not creating chances and even here today the goalie had a couple of saves and we missed one from about two-yards out. We are creating chances so I'm not that worried." Nairn's attention now switches to their next friendly against north junior Division Two outfit Bishopmill United on Tuesday night. Fridge said: "I wouldn't take anything away from Bishopmill or be disrespectful to them. We have them and Strathspey this week and we'll handle that and see where it takes us." Glenn Main continues to be listed as a trialist for County, and having said last week that he had hoped to speak to the former Nairn St Ninian man within the next seven days, Fridge had nothing further to report on that front. He said: "I had a wee chat with him last week but nothing is concrete yet. It has been a busy week and we of course had the game today. He's enjoying it and came on today and did very well I thought. I will probably get a proper chat with him over the next couple of days." Nairn are again expected to be without the services of midfielder Duncan Jones for Tuesday night's match while defender Scott Nicholl will also be out as he undergoes an operation to cure a recurring injury. |
