Post Match Reaction: Fridge Unhappy At Defensive Errors
Two first half goals effectively sealed the three points for Keith on their visit to Station Park on Saturday. And their task was made all the easier by the generous mood of the sloopy County back line who's mistakes proved costly. It was only Nairn's second match since the beginning of December and their rustiness showed as the champions broke the home side's resistence after only six minutes. Martin Allan's men added another before the break and a crucial just after the interval to put the final nail in the Nairn coffin. Les Fridge's men only got to stage one of the 'back from the dead' comeback
when Duncan Jones converted a penalty before the visitors scored a spot kick of their own to make it 4-1 only a couple of minutes later.
Les Fridge reflected on the defeat after the game when he spoke to
Nairn County FC Online. He said: "Our mistakes proved to be costly, but I thought we played well. We cannot get away with make mistakes against the top sides because they will take advantage.
"It was hard to take being two goals down at half time having hit the post in the first half and we even managed to get back into it with the penalty to make it 3-1 but we then went on to lose a fourth goal because of a lack of communication."
It was Nairn's second defeat of the year after losing their opening game of 2008 to Keith seven days previously. The trip to Harmsworth Park followed a six-week break because of postponements and having a free week but the manager was refusing to blame this defeat on a lack of match action.
He said: "I am not using rustiness as an excuse because we played ten times better than we did last week (at Wick) but we did not get any of the breaks. It was only our second game in eight weeks but the difference was night and day compared to up at Wick."
Gregg Main: Struck the woodwork against Keith
"We knocked the ball about well and I have to say, Wayne Mackintosh, Steven Edwards and Gregg Main were absolutely outstanding in the middle of the park."
