Player Interview: Garry Glad To Get Going At Nairn
Nairn County completed their ELEVENTH signing since the end of last season when they added Forres Mechanics defender Garry Black to the squad in time for the league match with Lossiemouth ten days ago. He was quickly followed through the door addition number 12, Andrea Coletto.
After a lengthy pursuit, County boss Les Fridge finally landed his man when terms were agreed with the Mosset Park club and personal terms with the player were thrashed out. It marks an incredible turnover of players with seven departures ensuring that the Station Park revolving door has gone into overdrive.
That is of no concern to Black however as he is exciting about the challenges ahead for Nairn as Fridge moulds together a new side and looks to the future. It is a future that the experienced defender wants to be a part of.
He spoke exclusively to
Nairn County FC Online after playing his second match for the club - the 4-0 league win over Fort William at Station Park. He said: "I feel I have settled into the team very well. I find all the boys a good bunch of boys to play with and I knew a lot of them before I came here anyway and things have been going well so far."
Fridge's interest in the player first emerged following the 5-0 defeat to Clachnacuddin but both parties had to be patient before the deal was done.
Garry Black's debut against Cove
That left the player in limbo for several weeks as he was omitted from the Forres squad while transfer listed and sat in the stand for County's trip to Mosset Park last month.
Despite Gordon Winton's men coming out on top in that particular match, Black feels he has made the right move coming to Station Park and that he has joined a club with more potential than their near-geographical neighbours.
He said: "The move all came together quite recently. It all started when I put in a transfer request at Forres because I did not think they were going anywhere. They brought in numerous players and I did not think they were as good as the players we had at the time. I also fancied a change of scenery and I thought that Nairn were an up and coming team with a lot of young boys. They are better than Forres so it's a step up."
The defender was in his second spell at Forres having previously played for Steve Paterson at Mosset Park.
He said: "Before my second spell at Forres, I was at Clachnacuddin and before that I was at Forres again. I joined them from Brora Rangers and now obviously I am at Nairn."
Black made his name in the Highland League as a tough-tackling attacking full back with Forres and Clach but since coming to Nairn he has changed his position. Signed just in time to feature against Lossiemouth at the end of last month, the player made the substitutes bench but had to wait until the following Saturday to make his debut when he was pitched in to the team for the Highland League Cup clash against Cove Rangers - in a holding midfield role. After playing the full 90 minutes of that match, Black continued in the team for last night's victory over Fort William, again playing the full game.
He said: "It's a change for me but I think it's very good. I prefer playing as the holding midfielder rather than as an all-out-attack full back anyway so it has been a very good change for me."
