| 8/6/07 Fixtures for Season 2007-08: Fort Test on Opening Day Nairn County will kick off the new Highland League season at Fort William's Claggan Park on August 4. The campaign curtainraiser is a repeat of Les Fridge's first ever league match in charge, when County were defeated 3-2 at Fort on the opening day of the 2004-05 season. The first round of the inaugeral SFA Challenge Cup takes place seven days later, when Nairn will face Forres Mechanics at Station Park before playing their first home league match of the campaign a week later. September 15 has been set aside for the North Cup final, although that is subject to change depending on the finalists, as was seen last season. 13 Highland League clubs will compete in the first round of the Scottish Cup on September 29 while last season's league top two, Keith and Inverurie Locos have received a bye into the second round of the competition, to be played on October 27. Fixture chaos is looming already though as both the Maroons and Locos have been scheduled league fixtures on that day. The Highland League Cup gets underway on March 1, with the all important final set to be staged on May 10. Interestingly, this the the sixth season in a row that Nairn have not played on home turf on the opening day of the season. In 2003-04 they were handed a "free week" on the opening day while all games played on the actual on the first day of the season have been away from home since the home clash with Buckie in August 2001. |
