17/6/07 Transfer News: Finnigan Is First Through the Door Nairn County have completed their first bit of transfer business this summer with the capture of Chris Finnigan from Elgin City. The pacy winger made 13 appearances for the Third Division side following his transfer from Inverness CT during the summer of 2006 and his signed a two-year deal at Station Park. Nairn boss Les Fridge was happy to have landed a player of such calibre. He said: "I am delighted he has agreed to join us. He was a full time professional with Inverness CT and spent last season playing Division Three football with Elgin City. "He is very versatile and can play up front, wide in midfield or in the middle of the park so I am delighted that we have been able to attract a player such as that to join us."

The added competition from other clubs also looking to recruit players from the local area added to the significance of the transfer, according to Fridge. He explained: "We are always competing with the likes of Clach, Forres, Fort William and Brora to try and bring players in. All of these clubs and ourselves are more-or-less targetting the same players. "But now with Robbie Williamson in the door at Elgin City and keen to build a more locally based squad, and Duncan Shearer back living in Inverness and taking players from this area to Buckie, it makes it even more difficult. And that is without mentioning Ross County, who are now also bringing in more and more locally based players." 21-year-old Finnigan netted on his last competitive visit to Station Park when he opened the scoring in a 4-1 North of Scotland Cup win for Inverness CT over Nairn in March 2004.

The Glasgow-born right-footer has previous experience of playing in the Highland League after enjoying a brief loan spell at Clachnacuddin last December. He made four appearances for the Grant Street Park outfit. Meanwhile, Fridge said that he was still awaiting a response from David MacRae over the offer of a new contract. Speculation regarding the future of the 22-year-old has been rife and he has now returned from holiday, sparking claims that a decision could be imminent. But Fridge has yet to hear a final answer from the Scotland semi-pro internationalist over whether he will stay at Station Park. He said: "We have made David a very good offer to stay at the club and it still remains on the table. At this moment in time, I don't know what he wants to do next season." The manager was also in buoyant mood as he looked ahead to the start of pre-season training next Saturday, having himself returned from vacation. He said: "I am very much looking forward to it. In fact, I am dying to get back into it and I would like to think the players are at the same stage as well."
