Post-Match Reaction: Brothers Praised
Nairn County picked up another three points when they defeated Rothes at a wind-swept Station Park to record their second win in a week. And manager Les Fridge was delighted to record another home win.
The hosts opened the scoring with just 30 seconds on the clock. Gregg Main stepped up to curl home a wonderful free kick from 25 yards to net his third goal of the season.
It was two on 22 minutes when Glenn Main rose highest in the box to meet Stephen Skinner's cross
into the box and head home his first goal for the club.
Fridge was delighted to see the local brothers get their names on the score sheet by grabbing the decisive goals. He said: "A wee mention is needed for the Main brothers as they got the two goals for us today. Gregg scored with a great free kick and the second was a great move by Stephen Skinner before Glenn scored a fine header."
He added: "Overall I am very pleased with another three points on the back of the Lossie win and another clean sheet."
It was County's fourth clean sheet in six games since the turn of the year as goalkeeper Callum Donaldson saved his third penalty of the season. The boss said: "Callum Donaldson only had one real save to make and that was caused by a mistake. They had the wind but Callum saved their penalty. We were not under a lot of pressure although it is always hard with a team pushing to get back."
The two teams meet again at MacKessack Park in a rearranged Highland League Cup tie on Wednesday night. The winners will take on Deveronvale at home on Saturday in the next round while the losers will
Willie Barron: An injury doubt for Wednesday night's cup tie
host Forres Mechanics in the league on the same day.
Nairn will have Andrea Coletto back in the fold for the cup clash - the second between the teams at MacKessack in this competition since Fridge took over, the other being a first round tie in 2006 that County won 4-1 thanks to goals from Iain Brooks, Tony Low, David MacRae and Scott Kellacher. The two teams have already met three times this season, the other two games were played back-to-back in August. Nairn progressed to the North Cup final with a 5-0 midweek win thanks to goals from Shaun Kerr (3), Jonathan Holland and Duncan Jones. Four days later, County defeated The Speysiders at MacKessack Park 1-0 on league duty thanks to Scott Graham's winner.
Fridge will be without Gary Black, Chris Finnigan and Scott Graham while there are doubts over captain Willie Barron who came off injured on Saturday. Steven Edwards may also miss out. Speaking about the game, the manager said: "The game in midweek will be a contrast (to today). Their pitch will be a lot heavier than here at Station Park."
