Post-Match Reaction: Gregg Is Chocolate!
Two late goals from the prolific Shaun Kerr were enough to kill off Forres Mechanics and Station Park as Nairn County returned to winning ways following a run of four defeats in five games.
The former Ross County and Clach marksman added to the opening goal from the impressive Gregg Main, although the Nairn midfielder did limp off later on in the game.
After the match, Les Fridge spoke about how pleased he was to see his players start taking their chances in front of goal again. He said: "It was nice to get the win. I feel that in the last three goals
although we've been beaten, we had been playing really well and just weren't clinical enough in the final third. But we looked more like ourselves today and posed more of a goal threat.
"We scored good goals and it would have been nice to keep a clean sheet but we just switched off at the end after making a couple of changes. But we are happy enough overall."
The manager added: "Forres had a lot of things from set pieces and we knew they would. As for direct efforts on goal, the two teams were pretty even. But they (Forres) had a lot from set pieces and they are a big, strong side. They had the long throw where all the big guys come up and corners as well. They are always going to cause you problems and we knew that because we had them watched. We knew that was going to be our problem, it was just a case of being able to deal with that."
Goalscorer Main was brought off with 12 minutes because of a slight injury. And when asked about his midfielder's well-being, Fridge responded: "He's chocolate for want of a better word! But in fairness to him, I thought he did really well tonight even though
Shaun Kerr: Added to his tally in the win over Forres Mechanics
he got battered about. He was on the receiving end of three or four really bad knocks. We just took him off before he melted under the floodlights!"
With only one game this to go this season, Fridge took time to reflect on the campaign so far. He stated: "We made a good start and we put together a good run up until about two or three weeks ago when I thought we should have done better in games. We were playing well enough but we just weren't finishing things off because our ball in the last third was killing us.
"We won the North of Scotland Cup and we got knocked out of the League Cup in the semi final. But I just feel that over the past four or five weeks we should have definitely picked up a lot more league points."
The curtain comes down on another season at Station Park on Saturday when Nairn welcome Buckie Thistle. A draw or better will see County better last season's league tally of 40 points and put them in with a chance of finishing above Forres Mechanics and even Fraserburgh in the final standings. The manager added: "All we can do is try to win the game. If we win the game and get up to 43 points then we will see what happens. That's all we can do because we can only take care of ourselves. But it will be a very difficult game because Buckie have done very well having a bad start and are now up in fifth place so it will be a very difficult game for us. But we will approach it in the same way we always do."
