Fixtures for Season 2008-09: Locos Visit First Up For County
A home match against Inverurie Locos is how Nairn County will begin the 2008-09 Highland League season. Les Fridge will be hopeful of a result against one of the favourites to win the league title as Nairn rounded off their home matches last season with a comfortable victory over Dave Cormie's troops.
The campaign kicks off on Saturday August 2 although Nairn will have a yet-to-be-drawn North of Scotland Cup tie to play prior to that. And seven days after starting their league season, Fridge's side will take on reigning Highland League champions Cove Rangers at Station Park in the first round of the Challenge Cup.
The week after that is back to league duty as Fridge takes his team to Claggan Park to face Fort William before returning to Station Park the following Saturday for the visit of Keith. The first month of the campaign is rounded off by the trip to MacKessack Park to take on former Nairn Boss Rab Mulheron's Rothes outfit.
September starts with a tasty home clash with local rivals Clachnacuddin while the first match with nearest geographical opponents Forres Mechanics lands on October 25, almost three years to the day after Nairn dumped the Can Cans in the North of Scotland Cup final.
The first round of the Scottish Cup is scheduled to take place on September 27 with the second round being staged October 25, seven days after the final of the Challenge Cup.
County then face back-to-back derby matches in December as they travel to Clach's Grant Street Park on the 13th and then make the 11-trip to Mosset Park in Forres seven days later.
The Highland League Cup is set to get underway on March 7 while County's last scheduled game of the season is set to be a home match against Wick Academy on April 11. The final of the Highland League Cup is due to take place on May 9 however there has yet to be any scheduled dates for North of Scotland Cup ties.
