| A five star display from Nairn County earned their first three points of the Highland League season as they disposed of strugglers Fort William at Claggan Park. It rounds off the perfect week for Les Fridge's side after they advanced to the semi final of the North of Scotland Cup in midweek with victory over Forres Mechanics. The manager stuck with the same starting eleven that dumped their local rivals on Tuesday night for this game with the only change coming among the substitutes as Duncan Jones returned to the squad in place of the unavailable Duncan Jones. County made the perfect start as striker Scott Graham gave them the lead inside the opening 10 minutes before a double from Gary Black put the visitors on easy street before half time. If the result was not a foregone conclusion already, it was secured only three minutes after the restart when man of the moment Johnathan Holland added his name to the score sheet before defender Billy Horne rounded off a comfortable afternoon for Fridge's side by grabbing his first goal for the club. Nairn took the game to their hosts in the early stages and made the vital breakthrough with 10 minutes on the clock. Scott Graham is beginning to earn a reputation for his pacy movement which can terrorise defences and he showed exactly why as County made their early pressure count. A long ball in behind the Fort defence was latched onto by Graham as he out-stripped the home defence for pace before coolly slotting past Fort William goalkeeper Richie Munro. The visitors continued to keep their foot on the gas and doubled their lead after 34 minutes. A Brian Macleod cross into the box was met by a powerful Gary Black header and the former Forres Mechanics full back steered the ball past Munro to open his account for the campaign. With one goal to his name for the season, Black quickly set about doubling his tally and took only another eight minutes to do so. A fine, passing move involving Gregg Main, Holland and Macleod prised open the home defence and when the final ball arrived at the feet of the unmarked Black, all he had to do was place the ball beyond Munro to end the match as a contest before half time. (H-T 3-0). It took only three second half minutes for County to add another goal to their rapidly increasingly tally as form man Jonathan Holland got himself in on the act. The man from Malta showed some classy move to make a perfectly timed third man run to the back post to meet a corner from into the box before drilling a low shot across goal and into the corner of the net from six yards out. A perfect day at the office was rounded off for the visitors when Billy Horne added the fifth and final goal of the afternoon. The former Inverness CT defender met a corner into the box in the 73rd minute with a thumping header to score his first goal for the club since joining in the summer. (F-T 5-0). |
