NAINBY WEB
CURRENT ENQUIRIES
This section summarises the principal lines of enquiry that I am currently pursuing in researching the family tree. If anyone can help, please contact me at [email protected]
James Alexander Nainby I
According to the 1851 Census records, James Alexander Nainby was born in Plymouth in 1836 or 1837. His marriage certificate identifies his father as Robert Nainby.
The key questions I have are:
What was his date of birth?
Who was his mother?
Robert Nainby
James Alexander Nainby's marriage certificate identifies his father as Robert Nainby. Mary Ann Nainby's birth certificate identifies her parents as Robert and Jane Nainby. I have assumed that the two Robert Nainbys are one and the same, as both are identified as shipwrights.
The key questions I have are:
When was Robert Nainby born?
Where was Robert Nainby born?
Who were his parents?
Was there one Robert Nainby, or were there two?
When did he marry Jane Russell?
Where did he marry Jane Russell?
Did they have any other children?
The French Connection
According to my late grandfather, "I was told by my mother [Myra, nee Nicholls] that grandma received a pension from the French Government, I think because the Huguenots lost all their money and property after the Revolution. This was stopped by the French Government in 1900."
The key questions I have are:
Were such pensions paid?
Was the "grandma" Emily (nee Clark) or Emma (nee Marsh)?
Were the Nainbys ever French Huguenots?
If so, when did they come across to England?
The Missing Family Tree
Again, according to my late grandfather, "My Uncle Will [William Albert Nainby] many years ago paid 25 to trace the family history and it seems we came from Huguenot stock."
Assuming this is true, whatever happened to the family history?
