Ever
since I first had my nails done, I fell in love with this beautiful art
and immediately I knew that I would definitely enjoy doing it, so I decided
I would give it a try. Soon after, I followed a nail course and in November
2000 I obtained my diploma from the OPI nail academy where I studied in
detail the nail anatomy and how to create the natural looking nail using
acrylics. Ever since then, this has become my favourite hobby and with
a lot of practice I've learnt so many more things on how to perfect my
skill. I have found out that even here, there's always something new to
learn and I'm always looking for new tips and hints. In June 2003, I attended
an intensive training programme for nail technicians in Holland organised
by OPI Europe where we were introduced to the latest nail enhancement techniques
for doing acrylics, gels and wraps.
In these last couple of years I have also started experimenting with
nail art - both free hand and airbrushed. I must say that airbrushing is
quite difficult but I'm getting the hang of it and I'm continuing to practice
on that until it becomes perfect! In the meantime, I specialise in hand
painted art and I can create practically any design that comes to my mind.
In fact, at the end of September 2004 I took part in a nail art exhibition
which was held during the Fashion and Beauty fair . You can have a look
at some examples of some fine nail art in my nail
art gallery.
My latest target was to try to obtain the OPI Expert Nail Tech Diploma
which needs candidates to be proficient in all nail enhacement sytems in
order to be eligible to sit for it's exam. In November 2004 I did the only
two courses which I still hadn't done, Gels and Pedicures, and after successfully completing both courses, I did my final exam for this diploma of excellence
which I passed with a very good result - something which I really worked
hard for!
Here are some photos of me - the first one below was taken while I was
at work at one of Holland's hands-on workshops and the second one pictures
me with the rest of the Maltese group who attended the training programme
and with Eleanor Victor who is OPI USA's supervisor on technical support,
Joey Brown, OPI's international educator and Angéle Stafrace who
is OPI's local educator.
