"I
am not drunk," Yuki flatly said, frowning as everyone leaned closer
to catch a better glimpse of his face. "Really. And somebody keeps passing
me these stupid glasses."
"Yuki
had eight!" Momiji proudly announced.
"Feh,"
Kyou scoffed, "that's nothing."
"But Kyou only had four," Momiji
observed, peering over his cousin's shoulder and making the latter turn
scarlet.
Boing!
"Waaaa~
Kyou hit me~~"
"Eight
glasses in one sitting! That's my brother!" crowed Ayame, whose voice was
ten times louder than usual. He and Shigure were still huddled near the karaoke
machine, holding microphones. On the screen behind them, the video played on.
(They missed their cue and forgot to press the pause button.) "Aa, Ha-san,
I told you he'd be a man about it, nothing to fear--"
"Shut
up." Yuki had slumped forward on the table, clamping hands over his ears.
"You're talking too loud, you bastard---"
"Yuki is cute when he curses," Haru
commented.
"You
shut up too."
"Drunk
or not," Hatori calmly continued as if no one had spoken, "I'm afraid
you'll have to go up to your room and lie down."
Yuki
sighed. "Fine."
Then
he got up from his seat and walked into a wall.
"Waa,
Yuki!"
"Yuki,
are you all right?"
"Can
somebody take him?"
"I'll
do it!" Tohru exclaimed from the other end of the table. Everybody looked
at her, surprised at her outburst. She began to retreat, gesticulating wildly
as she spoke. "Ah, what I mean is...um, that is, if you all wouldn't mind
if I assisted him to his room--"
"It's
all right, Tohru-kun," sang Shigure into his microphone. "Help
Yuki-kun get into bed and tuck him in reeaaal tight for us, okay?"
As
Shigure waggled his eyebrows suggestively, Hatori rolled his eyes and Kyou's
scowl deepened. Tohru, however, didn't seem to notice this. She jumped up from
her seat, brushing crumbs off her skirt, and smiling brightly. "Yes,
Shigure-san!"
"I'll
help you, Honda-san," Haru offered.
"Thank
you very much, Hatsuharu-san!"
"Now
everyone say good night to Yuki!" Ayame beamed. "One, two! Good
night, Yukiiii."
"Shut
up, all of you," Yuki muttered, knocking his head against the lamp hanging
near the doorway.

"And
this is where I leave you," Haru said, getting up from his perch on the
bed. "Honda-san, make sure Yuki goes to sleep, all right?"
"I will, Hatsuharu-san. Thank
you so much for helping me."
"Don't
mention it. I did it out of love for---"
"Haru."
Yuki's tone was lethal.
"Ah."
Haru turned to his cousin, who had collapsed against the pillows. "I'd
love to stay by your side, but it's not me you really want, right? Yuki."
"Just
get out."
Haru's
dark eyes regarded him thoughtfully for a moment. "It'll be good if you
don't screw this up."
All
of a sudden, Yuki flushed.
Without
another word, Haru nodded at Tohru and made his exit, closing the door softly
behind him.

"Do
you..." Yuki hesitated, letting a few strands of her hair fall away from
his grasp. "Do you like us?"
Tohru
smiled. "I like everyone very much."
"Oh."
His heart started pounding. "Then...you...like me?"
"Yes,
I do."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Really
really?"
"Yes."
She started to laugh. "Yuki-kun, what is this about?"
"Nothing."
He smiled back, reluctantly letting go of her hair and letting his hand fall to
his side. "Maybe Hatori was right; maybe I am drunk."
"It'll
be all right in the morning." Still smiling, she got up and started
drawing the covers over him. She smelled like jasmine and detergent and summer
rain all at the same time. Unable to help himself, he reached out to grip her
hand as it drew near him. Her skin was soft.
Her
eyes widened. "Yuki-ku---"
"I
like everyone too, I think," he softly said. "And I like you the
most."

Yeah. -- >
