Wait?

I’ve done enough waiting.

What’s five, ten meters?  Nothing a good lunge can’t cover. 

You flail your arms about madly and yell at me to stay where I am,

but I ignore your protests, flex my arms this way and that.

There is only the need to be where you are.

And where you are is where I will be.

I take a step backward, and another.

/Oh good lord,/ you groan.

But even as they tremble with uncertainty,

your arms raise to welcome me.                                        

 

 

I reach into my pocket

to give Hope a pat.

My fingers are aflame.
