“A date…would you like to go?”
- Sohma Yuki, Fruits Basket volume 6
your dark
eyes skim the menu, far more intently than anyone would.
shigure
often says you take the mundane too seriously.
though i
am inclined to agree, i find
the whole
knit-brows-chin-in-hand business
very
charming.
you hmmm
and absently shift in your chair,
and your
knees graze mine as you move.
it would
be very easy for me
to tuck
that stray lock of hair behind your right ear
if i
really wanted to.
this
coffee shop needs bigger tables.
then again, maybe it’s fine the way it is:
cinnamon walls, hazy windows, sugared air
scratched
formica tabletop, over which
the
curtain of your brown hair falls
as you
mull over the possibilities ---
chiffon
cake or apple pie,
earl grey
or darjeeling?
my
fingers drum idly against the side of my chair
to the beat
of a song playing in my head.
you know
me too well to think i'm rushing you
and go on
looking at the menu,
for we
have all the time in the world
and i
will never mind
waiting.
