It looks as though things always get crazy at this time of a year as we approach the next. As you'll read in today's top headline, Kevin Nash is in serious talks to jump aboard the WWF. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is not up to me to decide. That, and my opinion means nothing in the big scheme of things. Maybe Vince had too much stuffing for Christmas dinner Tuesday night. The season also brings hope I suppose. I emailed Dave Scherer of 1wrestling back and forth and I have formal permission from him to use news items from he and his website. As a news gatherer, having sites like that on your side as a friend rather than an enemy is "good for business" so to speak. And while I do not take a single penny for my work here on this newsletter, I don't want to take a penny from the pockets of the folks that do earn money. Remember, without folks like Scherer and Meltzer doing what they do, we wouldn't know a thing and this newsletter wouldn't exist. I will, however, still use 1wrestling as sparingly as I have been. Serious talks have been made in the last day or so on bringing in Nash (and perhaps Hall in tow) on the much talked about January 7th episode of Raw. Nash's contract with AOL/Time Warner expires on December 31st and it's been said that Nash has already a couple of options. The WWA, which has a much lighter schedule to the WWF's has already offered Nash a large amount of money to join their roster. However, having just finished collecting his reported two million from AOL, it may not be about the money to Nash but about the fame. Something the WWF can give him a lot more than the WWA at this point. It's also been said that Nash is beginning to bend as far as the WWF schedule goes. That has been the only thing that hs kept Nash from signing already. Speculation has already arised out of this concerning the formation of "The Kliq" on January with Triple H, Nash, Hall and HBK. Nash is expected to make his decision in less than 6 days so let the rumors begin. Furthermore, his healing foot injury didn't go as planned during his appearances for the WWA. Steiner may sit out a few more months before deciding. -Also according to 1wrestling, Sting has been offered a big one-time deal to work the WWA's show on February 24th. Hope you all got what you wanted from Santa. I keep asking for Torrie Wilson, but I keep striking out. Maybe I need a bigger stocking. Ya think? I have to admit, I haven't been watching too much wrestling over the last week/10 days, but I have a couple of observations in addition to something a little different. Who decided it was a good idea to bring Mae Young back? I think I'll kill you myself. Nice imitation of Baldy Hogan by the Big Show. Keep this up, and you just might have a future. Who decided that since Austin is a face that his saying "What?" and his singing are now acceptable? And because Austin's a face, his wife's cookies are now "edible?" How low is interest in your show when you have to have Ray Traylor do a run in? Is Matt Hardy a face, or a heel? Is he breaking up with Lita or making up with her. And when did WCW writers take over? And lastly, no one, and I mean NO ONE is looking more forward to the return of HHH than myself. Hopefully the return of The Game is the shot in the arm the WWF needs. I also thought I'd talk about a couple of gifts Santa did actually bring me. I got a couple of good reads that are welcome additions to any wrestling fan's library. (1) Missy Hyatt-First Lady of Wrestling. I have to admit; I had it bad for Missy in the 80's and early 90's. Before Elizabeth, and Chyna, and Sable, and Trish, there was Missy. The book talks about her time in the business, her lives, and her loves (Of which, there were many of course.) From her debut in World Class to her marriage to Eddie Gilbert to her failed stint in the WWF to her many affairs; including Jake Roberts, John Tatum, and Jason Hervey (Yes, she really dated Jason Hervey). It is an interesting study of one of the first big name valets. Especially humorous is her treating Erik Watts like the two bit slut he is. (2) Pure Dynamite-The Price You Pay For Wrestling Stardom. This is the story of Tom Billington, better known as The Dynamite Kid. This was a very powerful book about a man who just wanted to wrestle. But he also wanted to be the best, and entertain people as best as he could. The book goes through his beginnings in England as well as his time in Stampede, Japan (Where he became a legend), and of course the WWF. The book goes into detail about the everyday sacrifices Tom made just to be able to keep going. It also sheds some interesting light on different people in the business. And if everything he documents is true, then the Rougeaus are nothing but a couple of c**k-s**kers, and Davey Boy Smith is the biggest pr**k on the planet. Both of these books are must reads for any long time fans of wrestling. Now I've just gotta get a hold of that Diana Hart book. If any of you have a copy laying around, I'm gladly accepting donations. Didn't think so.
