Both promotions will be called WWF, as the WCW name is dead for good. According to one insider, they tab that date as 50-50 because some of the storyline plans to reach that destination that were supposed to happen have been derailed and to get there may be a rush and Vince McMahon changes his mind constantly which is why long-term planning when it comes to booking can't exist. As with all long-term plans we've covered since Mania, they more often than not don't take place as planned. Source// dave meltzer ===================================================================== News from the WWF//================================================== -John Laurinaitis will be headed to HWA this coming Wednesday and to OVW on 12/12 to officially inform talent regarding roster cuts. As you can imagine, the HWA morale is down since rumors are flying that as many as 20 wrestlers will be cut. What is known is that wrestlers who have had WWF backgrounds in the past like D-Lo Brown and Val Venis do not have individual meetings which seems to indicate they are safe. -Smackdown finished with a 4.2 rating and six share. Not as well as the metered markets would have indicated but still above what the show has been doing. -All of the house shows that had been advertised as having Rock vs. Austin main events have been changed. For this coming weekend, the Detroit show will now be headlined by Austin vs. Angle. For San Jose on 12/8, it's now a tornado match with Austin & Rock vs. Jericho & Angle the day before the PPV. San Jose line-up is that match, plus Edge vs. Regal, Van Dam vs. Booker, Kane & Show vs. Dudleys, Tajiri vs. Christian, Jeff vs. Matt, Lita vs. Jazz, APA vs. Storm & Credible and Spike vs. Hurricane. -'Second year was 20 times better' is an article at WWF.com on probably the most successful pro-wrestler in history Kurt Angle. More as it comes in. -Apparently, if you register over at Shopzone.com, it is said that a WWF Superstar will call you on the phone! -News and notes from Jim Ross's weekly update: *Edge has been having some problems with his left knee -- specifically his patella tendon -- and the doctor thinks that he has some patella tendonitis and a mild knee sprain. He'll be wearing a knee brace for a while. No surgery is necessary, but physical therapy will be utilized. *Randy Orton, one of our fine young developmental prospects, landed awkwardly on his shoulder on Tuesday. He has a slight shoulder separation. An MRI was done on Wednesday, which proved to be negative for a tear. Randy will not compete at our events this week. But he'll be back in action, we think, in a few weeks. *Stacy Keibler has a pretty significant bruise on her hip as a result of a fall during our event Sunday in Tulsa, Okla. She's working through the pain and won't miss any time. *As we confirmed last week, Mike Awesome's MRI revealed an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Awesome will have surgery on Dec. 14 by the same doctor who performed Mike's previous ACL surgery. Mike's rehabilitation time is expected to be four to six months. *Scotty 2 Hotty saw Dr. Lloyd Youngblood in San Antonio, Texas, last Wednesday. Nothing new to report. Scotty's working through the pain from his neck condition; he's doing therapy three times a week and also maybe be using a home-traction unit. Scotty is eventually going to need surgery, but not in the near future. Dr. Youngblood, of course, is the same physician who operated on Stone Cold Steve Austin and Chris Benoit. *William Regal had a CAT Scan. He's been experiencing some nosebleeds and the exam revealed he needs surgery in the next few weeks, which will sideline Regal about three weeks. *Shawn Stasiak had an MRI on Thursday, which revealed that he needed to have his bursa sac removed. He'll be having that procedure this Tuesday and will be out of action two or three weeks, until probably around the first of the year. *Hugh Morrus has rotator-cuff tendonitis and a very small tear in the back of his rotator cuff. The good news is that he will not need surgery. He'll be doing some rehab and adjusting his weight-lifting program. But Hugh is working through his issues -- as many of our superstars are -- and we certainly appreciate his efforts. *Rikishi was at the Yozokuna tribute show on Wednesday, and now he's going to Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) in Cincinnati. He'll stay there through the holiday break. Rikishi is working diligently to get his weight to a manageable level and improve his cardiovascular conditioning so that he can come back and make an impact. *Booker T got hit in the head with a chair in a match with Rob Van Dam last weekend in Tulsa. He had a very mild concussion, which seemed to be getting better Monday and Tuesday. He should be ready to go this weekend at our non-televised events (house shows). *Test is still having some muscle spasms in his back. The doctor doesn't think it's anything serious and Test is working through the discomfort. *X-Pac -- who will be a guest on Sunday Night HEAT this week -- visited the surgeon who operated on his neck. The doctor confirmed that there's no new damage to his neck; he has only aggravated the old injury. He'll be able to return to work after a few more weeks of rehab. Hopefully, he'll be able to address his problem with therapy and exercise. I would think X-Pac would be back to his full- time schedule around the first of the year. *Kanyon is doing a hell of a good job going to physical therapy every day. He's still four to six months from returning from his ACL tear. *Rhyno is doing very well and improving greatly after neck surgery. He's still wearing a brace. He'll be seeing Dr. Youngblood in two or three months for a full evaluation. But recovery time is at least six months and it could be longer, depending on how the fusion heals in his neck. *Crash Holly has been unbooked from house shows this weekend due to a bout of tendonitis in his elbow. But he will be back for television on Monday. We think that with rest his injuries will improve. *Triple H is continuing to rehab in and out of the ring in Birmingham, Ala. He's working as hard as a human can work to return from his quadriceps tear. I still think he'll probably return in January, based on the latest doctors' estimates. The sooner the better for me; I miss him in the ring. Hopefully he'll be 100- percent-plus by early January. *Chris Benoit continues to rehab in Atlanta. He had an appointment with Dr. Youngblood just before Thanksgiving that went very well. Chris is very pleased to hear that he's right on track. He's been working out at home and thought he may have been pushing it a little too much. But he's doing great, and we're really excited about the fact that Chris is healing so well. I would think Chris would be back sometime around WrestleMania. Speaking of Benoit, he'll be a guest on Excess Saturday on TNN. *Bob "Hardcore" Holly is out in Los Angeles for "Tough Enough 2" and is taking good care of his arm after having the plate removed. *It's great to have Ric Flair back on World Wrestling Federation television. So many of our superstars are young and grew up idolizing the "Nature Boy." It's kind of like a baseball player -- a Jason Giambi -- sitting around and talking hitting with a Mickey Mantle or a Pete Rose. Certainly Ric Flair is a Hall-of-Fame competitor and performer, and he's really fitting in to the Federation environment extremely well. I'm sure his fans are very anxiously for Ric to get more involved in the storylines. That'll happen in time. But it's great to have him back here in the Federation. *The same can be said for my broadcast partner, Jerry "The King" Lawler. Certainly, King's approach to announcing is unique. I think that Jerry is extremely happy to be back in the Federation. We've had a lot of fun on our broadcasts since his return. It's just hard not to have fun when you're sitting next to King on a live television show. Having both these Hall of Famers back in our locker room is not only good for the young superstars, but certainly for the fans as well. *Here were developmental talent he praised, Randy Orton, Ron Waterman, Rico Constantino, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Leviathan, Sharmell Sullivan, Lisa Marie Varon, Jamie Knble, Shannon Moore, Kaz Hayashi, Island Boyz, Steve Bradley, Bull Buchanan, Val Venis, Steve Blackman, Goodfather, Mark Henry and D-Lo Brown. Not only that, it seriously jeopardizes his slot in the Wrestlemania main event. Long-term planning may be in short supply at WWF HQ but the tentative plan for the feature match at the 2002 'Mania in Toronto has always been a fan favourite Triple H battling heel Steve Austin for the WWF title. But somewhere along the way, business went down. And last week the WWF responded to the decline by finally giving the fans what they wanted -- a Stone Cold they could cheer. The incident, which was videotaped, was allegedly against the victim's wishes. The teenager is expected to make a full recovery and criminal charges may be filed in the incident. That's right no complaints I really liked the show so much better than Raw. Matches that were well worth watching, not too much of Vince and even though he tried to recruit a new ass kissing member he never showed his ass, now that' a very positive thing. I even liked Flair and Vince's little conversation at the beginning of the show. From the opening on I thought Smackdown was very entertaining. The audience seemed really into the whole show and it was nice seeing Austin do his face thing. The fans echoed What perfectly but you can see the Rattlesnake is back. Angle's promo was very effective against Austin. He did his famous whining and the fans weren't taking any crap from him, a great way to get the show started. Even the match with Christian vs. Scottie 2 Hottie was good. And Test or should I call him Mr. Monotone did commentary. I wouldn't exactly say listening to him was a pleasure but I'll cut him some slack and leave him alone at least this time. Christian naturally won with you know who's help, but I thought all in all a good match with a lot of fan enthusiasm. I'll tell you who put a huge smile on my face and kept me in this great mood throughout out the rest of the show. ROB VAN DAM. That guy comes in and Vince has a little talk with him. Throughout the talk The Space Cadet just smiled and said how cool things are. Vince then pops a big one to RVD. He and Taker will meet at Vengeance. At first RVD is a little stunned, but within seconds he just says I guess I'll just have to beat him again like last time. Van Dam is so damn cool I just love watching him. Just the little he talked was priceless, and for me this set the tone for the rest of the night. RVD'S match against Buh Buh Ray Dudley was a very good one. And I was so impressed that Buh Buh wasn't busted open after receiving the Vandaminator. RVD is on a roll I can't remember when we saw him bust open his last opponent. Anyway after his win Taker came out and beat RVD up. He gave him the last ride, which landed Rob on top of a garbage can. Taker then told Van Dam is wants respect. This could be a good one to watch at Vengeance. Another top match last night was Angle vs. Edge. The two put on a great show with Angle of course winning. I guess he could thank Regal for coming out and aiding him. But watching these two was pure joy and not to knock Test but of course I am it was so nice seeing Edge in a fast paced match for once. Hey another match that I liked was the number one tag team contender match with Big Show and Kane vs. The Hardy's. Again this seemed to be a fan favorite, Show looked good out there, and they all made it fun to watch. Jeff caused Lita to fall off the top rope, which in turn caused him to lose to Kane. Of course backstage Matt gave it to Jeff and Jeff challenged his brother to a match at Vengeance. Here's hoping this has the makings of a damn good match and feud. Vinny did try to recruit Trish in his Ass Kissing Club but Rock came out just in time to stop it and prevent another gruesome look at Vince's ass. Rock made Vince stand with his trousers down and did his best to humiliate Vince, personally I doubt Vince could ever be humiliated, but it gave the Rock some mic time and Vince some camera time. And it gave Jericho even more heat after he ran in took out Rock with a chair and then did the People's elbow on top of a chair that was on Rock's face. It busted Rock open right under the eye. Again RVD was nowhere in site so he can't be blamed. Hey isn't Jericho doing a great job as a heel? I'm very impressed by it. Tazz took on Taker after Flair put out an offer for a younger guy to come out and go against Taker. This challenge was made when Flair saw Taker beat up RVD. So a little while later Tazz told Flair he was the man. Flair was thrilled and did his WHOOOOOOOO, Tazz then did it and Flair did it again, yeah it's a contest to see who can do the better WHOOOOOOO, winner and still champion Ric Flair. Let me tell you it was so nice to see Tazz in a match longer than 1 min. He and Taker put on a hell of a match. You knew no way in hell Tazz would win, but he managed to get his licks in and even put the Tazzmission hold on Taker. Boy was I was smiling, this was one of Tazz's best in a very long time. And the main event The Strap Match with Regal vs. Austin was really exciting. Regal and Austin gave it their all. I was totally impressed with Regal, for me I think it was the best match I've seen him in. Austin won, but Angle came in and attacked Austin. It was Regal and Angle all over Stone Cold. That brought out Edge who took Regal out. Edge vs. Regal at Vengeance just might be something to see. I have to say a very good Smackdown and the Vengeance Card is looking strong. Much better than last months card for Survivor Series. I think a lot of the matches have possibilities of being well worth watching. Tonight's show gave me hope for this coming Monday's Raw, and even more hope for Tuesday's Smackdown, which I will be going to. See a little less of Vince and his backside, and a lot more meaningful matches are all I ask for. Oh yeah, and the return of HHH would make it even better.
