Stanley about the WWF. Not much to it other than looking at why there has been more blood on the telecasts of late with quotes by myself and Jayson Bernstein of WWFE. Basically, as everyone knows, it's not like WWF has brought blading back to a big degree (although it is used when needed) as much as a lot of blood in the Rob Van Dam matches which is unplanned. The story talked about the latest quarterly repot and said WWFE was struggling. While business was well down in the post- Mania quarter, and isn't what it was by any means one year ago, the company was still profitable as of last quarter. -Smackdown's final national rating was 3.9, strong considering the competition - Fox baseball playoffs, NBC Thursday first-run sitcoms, the Survivor debut, and Millionaire on ABC. -DirecTV does not list No Mercy yet as being available. Last month the WWF and DirecTV came to a one-time agreement to air that month's PPV, but no deal has been reached yet for this month's and beyond. -The match between Chris Jericho and The Rock for the No Mercy pay- per-view was finalized at the management meeting before Tuesday's Smackdown! taping. There was a lot of debate regarding whether the match should be booked for the pay-per-view or not. Apparently a lot of people wanted to wait but there were no other story lines/matches for Jericho and Rock for this month. Both shows also saw their ratings drop slightly further than last week. Raw Is War (the first hour of Raw) scored a 3.5 as did the second hour: War Zone. While Raw fell all the way to fifth, War Zone took the third position. An NFL football game (Carolina at San Francisco) was first with a 5.0. Based on the way the ratings have gone since the NFL football season began, we can assume that the WWF will no longer be able to honestly label Raw as the "Number One show on cable television". It isn't now. It should be noted that it has been years since NFL football scored higher than Raw and that each ratings point represents 1,055,000 households. You really need a scorecard to keep up with what's going on. For instance... In the grand tradition of Tony Roberts, Jack Handey, Stuart Smalley, and Matt Foley, we now have DDP: Motivational Speaker. What a sublime concept. I have to admit though; there's something in that sh*t eating smile that makes you want to watch. And then of course, laugh like hell. The Dudley Boyz have always ruled the earth, but now with Stacey in their corner, just how popular can they be. Memo to Ms. Kiebler: Uh sweetheart, if you wanna be a real Dudley, you're just gonna have to start wearing Daisy Dukes. Steve Regal joins the Alliance. It was kind of a shocker; that is except to any editors who have to "Get The News So You Don't Have To". Anyhow, even though Regal was settling in pretty well as a WWF face, he just seems to be one of those guys who excels as a heel. And how about that explanation for the turn? When did Regal become Ollie North aka "The Mute Marine?" Did anyone believe that "Kiss and Makeup" stuff between Rock and Y2J? Everyone knows how these face vs. face matches end up. One of them is gonna knife the other, and I think we know who that will be. If it does happen, it will bring an end to one of the greatest feuds in wrestling: Y2J vs. Steph. Nice to see Regal lay down like a cheap hooker for Angle. That is until all the Alliance "Scrubs" came out to save him. Is it just me, or is Tommy Dreamer the Barney Fife of the Alliance? You know, give him that one bullet to put in his shirt pocket so he'll feel tough, but don't let him drive the squad car. What a fall from grace for a former ECW stalwart. This was truly a time when the Alliance reminded me of Major League Baseball. For every New York Yankees, there's a Montreal Expos. For every Atlanta Braves, there's a Tampa Bay Devil Rays. For every Austin, there's a Mike Awesome. For every Booker T., there's a Tommy Dreamer. Do us a favor, and contract already. Billy Kidman returns to action!! It's about freaking time. I was getting sooooo tired of Reefer Pac shooting off his pie hole. Now if they could just make sure Reefer's part of the WWF purge of "talent." And while it was nice to see Linda on Smackdown, the question must be asked: Where the Hell is Vince? Surely, we are going to see some type of major collison at some point. And speaking of which, in less than 2 months, The Game returns!! Where will he side. Even though his wife is with the Alliance, he can't side with the man that turned his back on him (Austin) or with RVD who Steph follows around like the Poky Little Puppy. And dammit anyway, I want one big WWF title match on PPV with HHH and Paranoia 3:16.
