I questioned the World Wrestling Federation's support for the New York Policemen and Firefighters, based on the fact the New York Policemen and Firefighters who I spoke with had not had any contact and/or support from the WWF. Well, I spoke too soon; and I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. Upon further investigation, I am happy to report that, yes, the WWF has supported the New York Policemen and Firefighters, among others, since the tragic Attack on America. Some WWF personnel has visited New York City and other donations have been made, too; that I know for a fact. For now, this is only a rumor, and no fact, but talk is definitely picking up that Nash will return to the WWF. -Dave Scherer is also reporting that Maven was initially disliked by the co-workers. However, after his dark match last night at Smackdown tapings against Tazz, he has impressed several officials as well as fellow wrestlers. -WWF Tough Enough will begin airing in Canada on TSN on Monday, October 15th at 8:00pm ET and every following Monday at 8:30pm ET right before Raw begins. The show will also repeat on TSN every Tuesday at 5:30pm ET and every Wednesday at 12:30am ET. Source// WWF.com, 1Wrestling ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= WWF Permitted to Appeal Logo Ruling LONDON (AP) - The World Wrestling Federation won permission Monday to appeal a ruling that restricts it from using the WWF initials because the logo is already associated with a wildlife charity. The Court of Appeal ordered the legal challenge to be heard as a matter of urgency. Justice Robin Jacob also ordered the Stamford, Conn.-based wrestling group to pay $221,000 toward the World Wildlife Fund's legal costs, expected to total $607,000. In August, the World Wildlife Fund, best known for its efforts to protect the giant panda and other endangered animal species, won a judgment curtailing the wrestling group's ability to promote itself. The judge ruled that the wrestling group had breached a 1994 agreement between the two sides that limited its use of the initials. In a written judgment, Jacob said it was understandable the fund did not want to be associated with the wrestling group, famous for musclebound wrestlers such as The Rock and Undertaker. Jacob said the wresting organization will be permitted a limited use of the initials in the United States, but will no longer be able to use the wwf.com Web address. The wildlife group has wwf.org. The World Wrestling Federation was not ordered to take immediate action, however, pending an appeal. The wrestling group argued that it isn't bound by the 1994 agreement, which it claims is an unreasonable restraint of trade and a breach of equal competition rights. The dispute between the two groups arose after the wrestling federation's popularity increased outside of the United States and it began using the WWF initials increasingly in magazines, videos and merchandizing. As part of a 1994 agreement, the wrestling group promised not to use the initials in writing anywhere in the world and not to use the initials orally to sell merchandise, except in America. The judge said the federation initially complied with the agreement, but since 1997 it had ``simply ignored the contract.'' The wildlife charity, which changed its name to World Wide Fund for Nature in Britain and several other countries in 1989, has maintained WWF as its trademark for 40 years. ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= Mayor Mel cleared in WMXVIII conflict-of-interest By ZEN RURYK -- City Hall Bureau Mayor Mel Lastman was within conflict-of-interest rules when he promoted Wrestlemania XVIII in Toronto. A letter of inquiry from Councillor Michael Walker called for Lastman to respond to council about a conflict-of-interest allegation in hyping the wrestling spectacle. Walker took issue with the mayor because Lastman's son, Blayne, used World Wrestling Federation stars in advertisements for Bad Boy furniture stores.
