While Collins will keep his minority interest in the company, he will no longer have any say in the day to day operations of MECW. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -Newly crowned WWF champion Kurt Angle will be the special guest on Byte This! today at the WWF website 4-5PM Eastern. -Today is Steve Blackman's birthday. -Last week's edition of Smackdown was the highest rated show on UPN last week, and placed number 65 for the week. Last week's show did a 3.9 broadcast rating according to Nielsen Media Research. That is a very good number considering that hour two of show was pre-empted in some markets (like NY) and went against President Bush's speech. He's simply being kept off of TV to further the storyline. Expect to see him Monday on Raw. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the rest of pro-wrestling//================================= -Dave Meltzer reports that Bobby Heenan has signed a deal with Triumph Books for the autobiography he's talked of doing for several months. Steve Anderson of WOW Magazine will be his ghostwriter for a release date next summer. Source// Dave Meltzer ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= Maven and Nidia Win Tough Enough Maven Huffman and Nidia were named Tough Enough champions and awarded with one year developmental contracts by Jim Ross at WWF New York to culminate the first season of the show. Huffman, 24, a former school teacher in Portland, OR, got a huge pop from the audience that chanted his name as he thanked his trainers and the people who paved the way in the business, the wrestlers of the past. Huffman has a natural charisma and verbal abilities, but is small by WWF standards. Although most had pegged Maven as the favorite from at least midway through the competition, particularly when he aced his interview a few weeks back, the win by Nidia was a surprise to most. It was evident that Nidia and Taylor had bonded, since she called Taylor her best friend when accepting the trophy while in tears. Although controversial to many who have been in the business a long- time for a variety of reasons, most people watching it ended up having respect for the survivors, even if Harvard Chris was clearly painted as the heel the past few weeks,and in fact, was booed when interviewed at the show. All the three who didn't win vowed that they would continue attempting to pursue a career in pro wrestling. Source// Dave Meltzer ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= Linda's Thoughts I don't know what to write about first. Smackdown, or the final episode of Tough Enough. Both shows were really good, but since Smackdown was on first I'll start with that. I'm happy to say I liked Smackdown a lot last night. I was so pleased with Paul Heyman doing commentary with Michael Cole. I have a question for you. Wasn't Paul more obnoxious than ever with Michael Cole? My answer is yes. I loved it. The looks and remarks he came up with were so damn good. I always love how he bugs the hell out of JR, but I give Heyman 4 stars for doing his very best to stick out and make watching the show so much more fun. What wasn't fun was the very long opening match between Kane and Undertaker vs. Booker and Test. This was for the WCW tag team titles, I thought this match would never end. It wasn't until the very end that the pace picked up as did the fans cheers that the match finally amounted to something. Gee do we owe it to Shane's interference again? Oh yeah, chair-shots and pulling the ref out of the ring to stop the count believe me it added something to what I thought was a very dull match. And of course this all led to Test and Booker becoming the new WCW tag team winners. My thoughts on that are for Test that's just great, but for The Book, I would think it's kind of a let down. Booker teaming with Test, well it may help Test get over as a heel. But I don't know if Booker can give Test charisma, no I think that's a lost cause. Also what I wasn't happy with last night was Paul Heyman (my hero) continuously doing what JR did on Raw Monday. Making the viewers at home believe Austin was definitely going to be there. Now if you don't read the spoilers, then it has to be a huge let down for you if you are an Austin fan. I think it was totally unnecessary to go on an on for two hours how Heyman just knows that Stone Cole will be there. I really thought after Monday's no show, pushing Austin's no show again wouldn't happen but I was wrong. And my only other complaint was X-Pac vs. Big Show. Really what would you expect from a match up like that? I do have to say X-Pac seemed to put a lot into it. Albert came out and stuck his nose into the match, and Spike also came out to protect Show. Kind of crazy, God I hope this isn't leading to a feud for No Mercy. Now for the highlights. The Hardy's put on a really good match against Kanyon and Rhyno. Kanyon came off so much better than I have seen him in a while. It must be Lita standing outside the ring. Rhyno looked as good as usual. I really liked the way these 4 worked with each other. It was fast paced and a lot of good moves. After the boring opening this was refreshing to watch. Stephanie was backstage praising RVD for handling Jericho. She told him she would be with him when he takes on Jericho again. RVD told her not to do him any favors. She replied that she was good at favors. Oh that Stephanie. I like what's happening with the two of them. So far Rob Van Dam looks totally put out by Stephanie's so- called help. I would love it if in the very near future he would completely turn on her. But for now, he's with her, or is he? WWF Champion Kurt Angle and WCW Champion Rock had a little one on one backstage. Wow they seem like such buds don't they? Anyway Kurt was talking about Rock going out with him for some strudel, but Rock straightend Angle out by telling him he likes pie. Then Kurt went on about drinking milk and getting big jugs. Let's just say you have to see it to know where this is going. It was funny, not hysterical but Rock and Angle seemed to carry it off well. Now for the match that I really enjoyed. RVD vs. Y2J. I'm sure this wasn't as great as the one at Unforgiven. But since I missed that, I was very pleased with what these two did last night. I think Jericho and RVD are working better and better with each other. Again Stephanie had to interfere and take some of that momentum away. But all in all the match of the night, and I just wonder if this will lead into a gimmick match for No Mercy. Boy I could live with that. DDP made another eerie appearance. The close up of him scares the hell out of me. Maybe because his teeth are so white. Ok seriously, there he was talking about never having a bad day in his life, and he can help others. I picked this up on Monday and it sure looks like he's going the motivational route. I don't know if that's good or not. Personally I think Page is made to look like a total ass, so that's definitely not good. I want to see where this goes, I'm hoping it does improve because I think Page deserves way better than what I've seen since coming to WWF. Edge was looking for Christian for payback. This guy is so cut up and stitched up from Unforgiven, I couldn't believe it. Anyway he tells the Brooklyn Brawler that he's there to take out Christian. Christian sees this on television and runs to Bradshaw for protection. But he refuses because of the way Christian has treated Edge. Bradshaw tells Christian he's meeting him in the ring and winning the IC title. Before that match it's Molly Holly and Ivory's turn. Not a bad match, but again there's nothing going on with the two to excite you, or wait is there? After Molly and Ivory butt heads with each other, Ivory pins Molly for the win. Molly is still knocked out and who comes to her rescue, none other than Hurricane Helms. He carries her off and the two ride off in his Hurrimoble. I really can't wait to see what's next. Christian and Bradshaw are next and it's a good match. Bradshaw is dominating Christian. Christian finally runs out and goes into his limo. The limo pulls away then stops and you see the car bouncing all over. I think Heyman says he probably has girls in there. Anyway Christian steps out but is pulled back in, and more bouncing is going on. After Christian finally gets out, you see Edge come out of the limo with a smile on his face. There's another backstage vignette with Rock and Angle. Angle gives Rock his new autobiography, and tells Rock he should write one. DUH! Rock lets him know he did, then Angle tells him to check out chapter 14. That was Angles greatest match, the won where he won the WWF title from Rock at No Mercy. Rock kids around with Angle about that. And then Rock belts out Smackdown Hotel, he then asks Angle to sing, and Angle sings to that tune with words about beating Austin. Again not outstanding or hysterical stuff, but really fun to watch. As was the main event. Rock and Angle vs. The Dudley's. Angle and Rock did a great job, and the fans were really into it. Things were going so good, until Shane, Test and Booker came down and got involved. Need I say more? But for some reason it really didn't bother me. Maybe because it wasn't just Shane alone, I don't know but it was a very good main event. Even though I have mentioned so many negatives the show was good and I definitely recommend it for all of you who haven't gotten it yet. I was pleased with Raw and Smackdown this week. Both shows were entertaining. Quickly congratulations go out to Nidia and Maven for winning the Tough Enough contest. I thought the show was great. Very emotional, and I felt bad for Josh and Taylor because I thought they had just as much of a chance to also win. I watched Chris in the ring, and with all his wrestling background he didn't seem as agile as the other guys. But I have to say Chris was getting some nice heel heat from the fans at WWFNY. Tough Enough was a show that week after week made me so glad to be a wrestling fan. The first half an hour has good old Vinny coming to Trax to check out the talent. I liked this segment very much, especially his take on each person and then their interviews with him. I'm sad to see it end.
