When Rob got back in the ring, he quickly hit Austin with a spin-kick and his Frogsplash. He then left. Austin recovered and called RVD bacl again but only to say "Never mind." Austin then cut promos thanking them for their support of Stone Cold. Austin then sang the American national anthem and "I am the Champion". Tazz eventually took the "clearly nuts" Stone Cold up the ramp only to meet Sgt. Slaughter who clocked the two of them to a large pop. -"Saturday Night", a magazine in Canada currently features and article with Trish Stratus. You can read it by clicking -For those wondering, Austin was busted open hardway as a result of Van Dam's Van-Daminator to his head. Austin was professional about it and and actually put him over after the match backstage. -RVD's pin over Austin last night was even more evidence that Paul Heyman's stoke backstage is getting bigger and bigger. Rumors started after Rhyno's pin over The Rock a couple weeks ago and are in full force now as a result of last night. Heyman is said to be Mcmahon's best friend. -SmackDown!'s overnight rating was 4.6. Last week in its normal time slot it got a 4.8 so the WWF did a good job of letting people know of the change and only lost an average number of fans. Wrestling recently sat down with the man that is rising faster than anyone in the WWF. Especially with pinning Stone Cold Steve Austin last night on SmackDown! He is Rob Van Dam. For those that forget, Hank was a regular on the the Howard Stern Radio Show and has appeared on both Raw and Nitro in the past. -SLAM! Wrestling reports that the 'Mania main event next year MAY be a match between the WWF and WCW world champions in a unification bout for ONE champion. -Hogan was on the Love Sponge's show this morning and says that the deal with Universal isn't dead but on hold. He says that Universal wants 3 million in financial backing and a guarantee of 13 shows. Hogan doesn't have the bread to do that but is looking for support from any millionaire out there who wants to see the promotion on TV. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= Linda's Thoughts I don't know what it is but all last night I had a terrible taste for strudel. Oh well, it's me again, and yesterday I gave you my Raw review, now you get my Smackdown review. Which by the way is very favorable. I liked the show a lot, two of my wishes were granted, Stephanie wasn't on, and Debra was but at least not as much as she was on Raw. I thought Smackdown really gave us good matches. From the opening with Raven and Justin Credible vs. The Hardy's all the way to the main event with RVD going against Stone Cold Steve Austin, just a really good night for wrestling. And the backstage vignettes weren't bad either. Austin handled them well, so all in all a good show. As I said Credible and The Hardy's opened up the show, a nice match and it was good seeing Justin and Raven in a decent match for a change. I kept waiting for The Hurricane to run in and screw Matt Hardy, but it never happened. So I guess the feud is dead. But let's see what happens with Raven and Credible this could be good with them feuding with the Hardy's. Or was this just a one-time thing? I'm sure we will find out more on Raw. Back to the show, Austin was walking backstage with Debra embarrassed to show his face in front of the Alliance members after Kurt Angle humiliated him the night before. But Austin did go in made some excuse that he cried and begged for the Alliance. The members kept their heads down acting as if their leader let them down. A very embarrassed and angry Austin was able to let it all out when Chavo Guerrero entered the room. He apologized for being late; he said traffic held him up, anyway Austin went berserk and beat Chavo to the ground. This set the tone for the rest of the night, Stone Cold was near the edge and there were more victims to follow. Christian makes his way out, this time to boos not cheers. He explained why he turned on Edge, and I think for the most part did a very good job. I feel this interview could have been shorter, but Christian made his point and got his Toronto neighbors to call him unflattering names. He also did what I thought would happened a couple of weeks ago. He challenged Edge for the IC title at Unforgiven. I'm extremely anxious to see how the heat builds in the next three weeks with these guys. All in all a nice job by the so not nice Christian. Back to Austin and Debra, Shawn Stasiak comes to Austin with a cup of coffee, that's Shawn's way of kissing ass, anyway Austin sips it and burns his mouth, he immediately throws the coffee on Stasiak. Stasiak is down, and Austin tells Debra to call the paramedics. She asks if Austin thinks Stasiak is in bad shape and Stone Cold says it's not for Stasiak but for him, he burned his mouth. Austin is loosing it, but the night is young. Now this next match was not a surprise to me. I say that because the rumors were flying yesterday that Kronik would be on and Stevie Richards would bring them in to take out Taker. It kind of made sense to me, since Richards is no match for Taker. But it was kind of cool to see these huge guys tear Taker apart. Oh how I wanted Kane to run out, but no such luck. I'm not a fan of Kronik, but this might be something to watch once Kane is back. Four guys evenly matched, which might make it interesting. Steph wasn't there, but Shane was, and he declared with 5 time 5 time The Book that he and Booker would take on Rock at Unforgiven for the WCW title. A handicap match, which Regal didn't want to sign, but agreed too. Now isn't that just perfect, instead of Shane (Always in site) McMahon standing out of the ring and running in every five minutes, he now will be a part of this pay per view match. I know I can't wait. The only match I found rather dull was Test vs. Billy Gunn. Again how can you put these two together when they have no storyline going? The match was slow, and really dull, but maybe if Billy was given a personality with some life in him, things might be different. But for me this was by far the worst match of the night. And the only one as far as I'm concerned. Back to Austin, he came out to the foreigners, well that's what Debra called them. He let them know how disgusting they were for cheering Angle for what he did to Austin on Raw. He went on about what he will do with him at Unforgiven. Angle came out and showed the footage again from Raw. Throughout Angle kept saying WHAT. Really kind of funny, it drove Austin up a wall. Angle's constant badgering of Austin and Austin's facial expressions were great, I think they did one of their best promo's together last night. Austin went back to the locker room just fuming and he wanted to take his frustrations out on one of the Alliance members. Since no one volunteered, Austin said the first man to walk in the door will be the one that meets him in the ring. While we're waiting to see who it will be Rock is interviewed by Lillian Mistakes Garcia. She asked him about Shane making the WCW title match at Unforgiven a handicap match. Rock immediately questions Lillian about her feeling for him. I'll tell you it was funny, and a little naughty, but I liked it, and that's where Strudel comes in. Well we know Rock likes pie and now we know Lillian likes strudel the people's strudel. Anyway I found it funny and Rock was his old smooth self. OK back to the locker room, Austin is waiting for that one guy to go through the door and it's none other than RVD. Now tell me this isn't a match you're looking forward too. But first we have The Hurricane. And he has made a challenge in the back for someone to come out and go for his European title. And the challenger is citizen Big Show. Now this match was pure comedy, and I liked it. Obviously Hurricane couldn't do anything against Show, but Lance Storm came out and aided Helms. Show then grabbed Storm and Helms and choke-slammed them at one time. Let me just say I thought this was funny, I'm sure a lot of fans will think this was garbage, I just don't know how long Helm's gimmick will last. Right now, it's new, but we know after awhile, like Too Cool, it stops being cute and humorous. But last night's match gets a thumbs up from me, as long as it isn't overdone. Booker, Rhyno and The Dudley's vs. Rock, Jericho (who didn't talk again) and APA. A really good fast paced match. All eight kept it going never a dull spot, the fans seemed to love it, and I really enjoyed it. Jericho took another Gore, which by the way looked very intense, and Booker got the pin on Y2J. As good as this one was the main event was even better. RVD vs. Steve Austin. The fans were totally for RVD, without a doubt Van Dam is a face and a fan favorite. He took a lot from Austin, but he gave it right back to him. Great match by both guys, and RVD did a spinning kick into a chair that Austin was holding, trust me this was one of the highlights of the match. Just a great job by both. And the best part was Van Dam defeated the Almighty Austin. I was going with RVD, I figured a win for him against Stone Cold would just turn up the notch on Austin's nervous breakdown. Angle had a little something to do with Austin's defeat, Austin had a chance to pin RVD, but Angle's music came on, Austin walked to the ropes and waited and Van Dam did a roll up and got the pin. It was great, a real fan pleaser. The show ends with Angle at the top of the ramp with a gigantic smile. An excellent way to end a very good show. This had Raw beat without a doubt. And the heat between Angle and Austin is going very well. Now we have five days until Raw, which seems long, but I'm really hoping that after a terrific Smackdown WWF'S creative team will realize just what pleases the fans, and Raw will follow the same pattern. Bye the way Tough Enough 2 is starting, send in those tapes. Speaking of Tough Enough, remember it's not on this Thursday because of the MTV Music Awards, so I guess we will have to wait until next week for the next episode. And since Smackdown was last night we are going to have wait until the weekend for WWF programming. You know shows like Excess, Metal, Jakked and Heat.
