Place its held to be determined in a couple months. Mania's tickets will be going on sale on November 3rd, 2001. Jim Ross was also on hand and introduced Vince McMahon and the other stars that made appearances such as Chris Jericho, Trish Stratus, The Undertaker, Triple H, Shane & Stephanie McMahon, Kurt Angle, Booker T, The Rock & Steve Austin (what?). Source// SunTimes.com, TheStar.com ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= Official Press Release for WrestleMania 18 WrestleMania X-8 To be Held At Toronto's SkyDome On March 17, 2002 The Biggest World Wrestling Federation Event Returns to Toronto with FAN AXXESS; Sets Sights on Breaking SkyDome Attendance Record STAMFORD, Conn. & TORONTO--Sept. 3, 2001-- Ending months of speculation, World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. announced today in front of thousands of fans in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square that Toronto has officially been selected as the location for WrestleMania X-8 and FAN AXXESS. WrestleMania, traditionally the highest profile World Wrestling Federation event, will be held at SkyDome on March 17, 2002. FAN AXXESS is a three-day fan festival that will be held Thursday, March 14 - Saturday, March 16, 2002. ``Not only is WrestleMania our biggest event of the year, it is widely recognized as one of the premiere entertainment events in the world. Last year, WrestleMania in Houston attracted a record-setting audience of nearly 68,000 fans from all 50 States, Canada, and more than a dozen foreign countries,'' said Stuart Snyder, President and COO of WWFE. ``Only one city outside of the United States has been able to deliver WrestleMania to the world. Toronto was there for us in 1990 and we're very excited about making it our home again for WrestleMania X-8.'' Tickets for WrestleMania X-8 will go on sale on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the SkyDome box office, Ticketmaster, and online at www.WrestleMania.com. Additional ticket information, including ticket prices, will be released soon. WWFE will be offering a special WrestleMania X-8 travel package that consists of ringside, floor, or lower tier tickets; three-night room accommodations; tickets to the Saturday sessions of FAN AXXESS; a Meet & Greet with World Wrestling Federation Superstars; a two-day Toronto Transit Commission pass; and WrestleMania X-8 souvenirs. Information about the travel packages can be obtained by sending an email request to travel.packages@wwfent.com. ``I'm thrilled that we can bring WrestleMania X-8 to our Canadian fans, who have been so loyal for so many years. We welcome our fans from around the world to be part of the largest indoor entertainment event in the history of Canada,'' said Carl DeMarco, President, WWFE Canada Inc. ``We believe that this year's event will bring the city of Toronto worldwide media attention and millions of dollars into the local economy.'' Jake Geleerd, Co-Owner of SkyDome stated: ``SkyDome is very pleased to welcome the World Wrestling Federation in March 2002. WrestleMania X-8 will be the `Event of the Year' in Canada!'' The first WrestleMania was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985. At the time, it was the most-watched closed circuit event in history and established WrestleMania as the premier World Wrestling Federation event. On March 29, 1987, 93,173 fans attended WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome - a world indoor attendance record that still stands today for any sports or entertainment event. WrestleMania VI was held at Toronto's SkyDome on April 1, 1990 - the first time the extravaganza was held outside of the United States - and currently holds the attendance record of 67,678 in that venue. Last year, WrestleMania X-Seven in Houston's Reliant Astrodome broke the attendance record in that building with 67,925 fans. ``The last time WrestleMania came to town, it set the Canadian record for indoor stadium attendance. There's no doubt in my mind that we're going to break that record next year at WrestleMania X-8,'' stated Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman. ``I'm excited that WrestleMania X-8 is coming to Toronto,'' said Mike Harris, Ontario's Premier. ``With all the fans visiting the city and millions more watching globally, it's a fantastic opportunity to promote Toronto and Ontario to the world.'' World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWF - news) is an integrated media and entertainment company headquartered in Stamford, Conn., with sales offices in New York City, Chicago and Toronto. Why is it that writers feel the need to make wrestlers look like idiots? Perry Saturn is a very good wrestler. He takes his bumps, a few good spots in Hardcore matches and The Moss Covered 3 Handled Family Credenza (is that right? Does anyone actually know?) looks pretty damn good, but my opinion of him soon dropped when he Wassssssupppppped Dean Malenko after telling D-Von to 'get the muffins'. He is a good enough wrestler on his own merits, but why does he need to be made to look a fool to get a bit of TV time? Besides the fact that Moppy is just the Head gimmick reworked, it seems to me that Perry Saturn has the potential to reach the upper regions of the midcard, roundabout Jericho/Benoit level, with a hefty push. Yet this can't happen if the writers insist on making him out to be an absolute dumba*s who chases after his missing mop. Hurricane Helms is just another example. For one thing that I have noticed, but others in the USA may not have, is that the Superhero thing is kind of alienating non-North American viewers. Over here in England you will be hard pushed to find anyone who knows who Hurricane Helms is trying to imitate. Things like that will make people feel stupid in some cases and possibly offend them, losing WWF overseas ratings, and at the same time making Helms, a perfectly good wrestler, look like an idiot. I suppose my point behind all this is that a wrestling fan, to many non-fans, is not a credible thing to be. When they see the likes of Perry Saturn saying 'You're welcome' and 'Where's Moppy?', it will make fans like you and me look like the idiots, not Saturn, and magnify their narrow-mindedness over wrestling even more. My family ridicule me because my favourite wrestler always has been and always will be Ken Shamrock - while I don't exactly scream every time I feel like breaking something, for them to see me idolize someone who screams and 'snaps' makes them think that wrestling is all the more stupid than they already think it is, and that I, the wrestling fan, am stupid for watching it. Think about how bad someone's reaction would be to a life-long Perry Staurn fan when he sees their idol searching for a mop with a face stuck on it. Making wrestlers look stupid is making us, the fans, look stupid.
