Tell your friends about the BEST newsletter around to subscribe today. Enjoy this latest edition of nWN! -Click for the SmackDown! result: http://www.naidosworld.com/tvsmackdown.html -Hello all. I've recently shut down one of my websites so today is a sad day for me. Especially since that very site ws where I made my humble start on the web as an opinion writer. The Pay Windah Press meant a lot and I'm sorry to see it go. It truly did die a slow death. RIP PW! A network of sites has dies recently. The passing of latestwrestlngnews.com came like a thief in the night. I closed down the PPV Prediction Round Table website. My good friend BBBoris, original webmaster of PW closed down his true internet love, his Real Audio weekly wrestling program BehindTheSquaredCircle and now I've done away with PW. That's a big network of sites! All that said, I've done what I did so that I can see this newsletter grow. It's been well over a year and I want to make sure I get each and every one of you the news you can use. Sure, you can go visit these websites, but if you're too buzy (as most of us are), it's great to have all those websites in ONE with this very newsletter. I've said it since the VERY FIRST edition of nWN; "I get the news so you don't have to." And I'l never stray. Off my soapbox. Now onto the news... LOVE THE NEWSLETTER? PLEASE TELL A FRIEND TO JOIN! Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== World Wrestling Federation Entertainment will take the live broadcast formula to Canada when SmackDown! invades the Air Canada Center in Toronto. This broadcast will have a twist. It will be broadcast on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 8 p.m. (EDT) instead of WWF SmackDown!'s traditional time slot of Thursday on UPN and on The Score Television Network. The Sept. 4 live show will be repeated at the usual WWF SmackDown! times on Thursday, Sept. 6, on The Score Television Network (7 p.m., 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.) and UPN. According to the WWF, the decision to go live Tuesday resulted from a request from Viacom to move the broadcast for the first week of September so that WWF SmackDown! would not draw viewers from the MTV Music Awards which be broadcast on Thursday, September 6 at 8 p.m. on MTV. SmackDown! will return to its regular time slots in the U.S. and Canada the following week. Viacom has a strategic alliance with WWF. The WWF's flagship show -- Raw Is War -- is broadcast on Viacom's TNN. Viacom owns MTV. Source// SLAM! Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -WWF Superstar Terri will be appearing at the Manchester United Megastore, Old Trafford, on Thursday, September 6, from 7-9 p.m. to sign autographs and to promote WWF Rebellion. -Yesterday was Jeff Hardy's birthday. Happy belated B-Day JEFF!! -This Monday at noon, The Score will be broadcasting the announcement that will be made at Nathan Phillips Square that Wrestlemania will take place in Toronto in March 2002 at the Skydome. -A bitter pill to swallow for the WWF today. The Nielsen Cable Ratings are out and things aren't looking real good for Raw. Though they still took Numbers One and Two on the weekly chart, the second hour of Raw only scored a 4.1 (4.23 million homes in the U.S.) while the second hour (War Zone) didn't do much better at a 4.0 (4.13 million homes in the U.S.). You gotta wonder what the WWF has to do to bring those number up again to a respectable level. -Rumour has it that Ontario Premier Mike Harris let the WrestleMania news out of the bag yesterday. In the riding of Nipissing, Ontario, Harris supposedly told members of the PC Youth Party at a rally that "Yes, it (WrestleMania) is coming and it will be a huge economy boost for the city and province. It will be announced at Nathan Phillips square on Monday." -1wrestling reports that the final Smackdown rating came in at a 3.9, which is 0.4 down from last week's show. -WWF Weekend Schedule: Saturday night: WWF Worcester, Mass. at the Centrum... Sunday night: WWF in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Metro Centre... Monday night: Raw in Toronto, Ont. at Air Canada Centre... Tuesday night: Smackdown in Toronto, Ont. (live, special night). -"WWF Excess" will debut in the UK on Sky Sports 1 at 10 p.m. this Sunday. -Robert Shultz sent 1Wrestling the following interesting newsbit: "For what its worth, the segment at the end of Smackdown was taped on Monday when the WWF was still in Grand Rapids for Raw. For anyone who is familiar at all with the city of Detroit, would know that the only river in the city is the Detroit River, which borders the U.S. and Canada, and is extremely larger than the one portrayed last night. They must have taped it late at night, for the bridge that they taped it from is a major street that is right in the middle of downtown Grand Rapids, and is only a few blocks from the arena that was used Monday night." Source// WWF.com, Ultimowrestling.com ====================================================================== News from WCW-ECW//=================================================== -This week Alliance member Tazz will join Trish Stratus and the Coach on WWF Excess. If you would like to talk to the brawler from Red Hook, give him a call at 1-888-LIVEWWF (548-3993) or e-mail him yourquestions at wwfexcess@wwf.com. After you catch Tazz live on WWF Excess, be sure to watch the Alliance star as he guest hosts HEAT this Sunday live at 7/6 CT on MTV! Will the former HEAT co-host have an issue with Al Snow taking his place? Find out this Sunday! Source// Yahoo! ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= News and Notes from Jim Ross Here are this week's Ross Report news and notes from WWF.com: *Nothing significantly new on the injury front. Kane's infected elbow seems to be improving after a three-day hospital stay. He will be examined Tuesday but will not be on the road this weekend nor at the Toronto television events. Hopefully, Kane will be able to return to action on Sept. 10's RAW IS WAR from San Antonio. He will not be rushed back due to the potential severity of his ailment. The Big Red Machine was in excellent spirits when we spoke, was feeling much better, and looking forward to returning to work. *Billy Kidman is continuing to rehabilitate his injured knee and could be released to return to work in the next two to three weeks. He will then head to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) or Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) for another two to three weeks of in-ring activity. *Rikishi seems to be a couple of months away from returning and is focusing on his weight as well as his shoulder. Things are going well with both areas. *No change with Triple H or Chris Benoit, as both are right on target with their respective rehabs. *Trish Stratus is now walking without crutches and her ankle is improving. She's still a few weeks away from physicality. *Jerry Lynn's patella surgery was successful and we look forward to having this talented hand back in about three months. *Diamond Dallas Page is rehabbing after knee surgery and seems to be healing well. No exact timetable has been established for DDP's return but a new creative direction for him is being discussed while he completes therapy. *Busy week for The Rock as he will appear Wednesday on Conan, Thursday on Howard Stern and Friday on Rosie. The Rock is scheduled to host the fall premier of "MADtv" in late September, as well. *Toronto's RAW is sold out and Tuesday's SmackDown! -- which will air live Tuesday night -- has a limited number of tickets still available and will probably be sold out by show time. My sense is that our Canadian fans will be more than ready for the Federation! *Excellent creative planning getting Hurricane Helms, Shawn Stasiak, Stacy Keibler, Lance Storm and Torrie Wilson more involved in our broadcasts. This is a very challenging process with so many new talents to introduce and to establish/build their TV personas. *Gangrel and the Federation have parted ways, and Chaz' contract will not be renewed when it expires in January. We certainly wish both talents the best in the future. Each man is very fundamentally sound. *We have agreed verbally to terms with female grappler Jazz this week. She has very sound in-ring skills and we look forward to her joining the company. *Because some often ask, there is no movement on any of the former talents of the old WCW to sign with us. *Scott Steiner is still coveted by our company; unfortunately, he is still injured. The other "big names" seem to be very content having Time Warner pay out their existing contracts. Source// WWF.com and of course Jim Ross ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= Vile Thoughts - By The Vile Well, with it being a bit of a slow week in the WWF, I thought I'd talk about something people frequently question me about? Are there any gimmicks out there that you like? The answer to that is yes. There have been many gimmicks over the years that I have thouroughly enjoyed. And while I can't list them all here, with apologies to the infamous Leno, here are my 10 favorite and 10 most hated gimmicks of all time. Hopefully, they will give you an idea of where I'm coming from. And remember, they are opinions, not the law of the land. VILE'S WORST 10 GIMMICKS (From least worst to most putrid) 10. Doom with the masks- Ron Simmons was coming off a bad angle where he was pared with the Iron Sheik. Butch Reed was coming off an uneventful stay with Ric Flair, Barry Windham, and Hiro Matsuda. Here's an idea-let's put masks on them, and call them "DOOM". They'll be big and bad and mean. Wrong on all 3 counts. Face it, until they scrapped the masks, they were a couple of schlubs. No one was interested in the Doom/Woman pairing, except to get a look at Nancy's breasts. 9. The Black Scorpion- This was Sting's first real big angle after winning the strap. Sid was a one match deal-so he doesn't count. Dressing up Ric Flair in a bad outfit, and having Ole dub in the voice is not my idea of a cerebral angle. 8. Bobby Eaton as a Blue-Blood. How could anyone have done this to one of the greatest tag team performers of all time. Eaton belonged in this angle about as much as 14 year olds are entitled to mow down 12 year olds with split finger fastballs. 7. The Red Rooster- One of the real up and comers in the business reduced to being comedy relief. Taylor was never the same afterwards. Witness "The Computerized Man of the 1990's" and "The Taylor Made Man." New Milennium version-Shane Helms, also known as Captain Kaos. 6. The York Foundation- Terrance Taylor, Richard Morton, and Thomas Rich (No, not the lunchmeat guy) Basically the same old garbage in new wrappers. 5. Saba Simba- How do you take one of the all time greats in the WWF, and make him into a total buffoon? Even Roddy Piper couldn't play it up. When announcers were still supposed to treat people like they were stupid, Piper stood up and said "This is Tony Atlas, one of the true WWF legends!!" 4. Issac Yakem DDS- I'm not sure, but I think this gimmick was put together so Bret Hart would have somebody to wrestle at the 95 Summerslam. Ya think? Best move: Becoming the Big Red Retard. 3. The Shockmaster- Not that Tugboat was a great personna. I was actually a fan of his when he was in Florida, and known as U.S. Steel, and later the Big Steel Man. Shockmaster just had "idiot" written all over him, and was a testament to how weak the WCW roster was from 1992-1994. 2. The Gobbly-Gooker: Enough Said 1. Before there was the Bad Ass Billy Gunn, there was Billy, the Smoking Gunn. Problem was, there was that brief period of time in between when there was ROCK-A-BILLY. This was without a doubt the worst concoction ever dreamed up by anyone. And for you Booker Q and Loser 3:16 fans, rejoice!! They were given stays of execution. VILE'S TOP 10 GIMMICKS (From least to best) 10. Tie: The Iron Sheik and Yokozuna- These guys were the best of the "foreign enemies." They did a great job of getting people mad, and they made you want to chant "USA" until your throat was sore. 9. Rick Rude- The perfect ladies man: Women wanted him, and their boyfriends wanted to kill him. Most memorable Rude quote. I only care about three things: Myself, My money, and My women!! RIP Rick. 8. Arn Anderson- Sometimes, the best gimmick is no gimmick at all. The guy who says what he's going to do, and then goes out and does it has always been a personal favorite. Guys like Bret Hart and Chris Benoit also apply here. 7. The Original Undertaker- It was a great concept. I was already a Mark Calloway fan, so it was interesting to see how the WWF would develop him. They have also done a great job of re-tooling his character when necessary. 6. Ric Flair (Pre 1994)- Who didn't want to be Ric Flair at one time or another? The technician with the flamboyant robes, the limos, the money, and the women. Oh my, oh my, the lovely women. And it was a character that worked well as a face or heel. 5. Kurt Angle- Easily the best of the flag wavers. And I'm a sucker for the flag wavers. The master of the dead pan now has a real mean streak, not like the manufactured ones of the past. Easily at the top of his game. 4. Triple H- Never have I been more impressed at how this guy has evolved. At first he was an outgoing prankster. Now he is the cerebral assassin. One of the top talents in the world. And as much as they'd love you to hate him, you just can't because "HE'S THAT DAMN GOOD!!" 3. Edge and Christian- I know they're gonna be splitsville, but their personalities are just awesome. They mesh together well, and they took over the role of resident jokesters from DX. 2. The Rock- Easily the most dynamic performer in the business. This guy is truly electrifying. How else do you explain someone that gets major pops for an overblown elbow drop? You could incluse Hogan in this category, but he wouldn't last 30 seconds in a verbal war with the great one. 1. The Million Dollar Man- Ted Dibiase was truly the Million Dollar Man. (Read his book if you get a chance) He lived the lifestyle, and he became the ultimate villian. Everyone hated him. He was evil. Money was his God. And he played the role with such effectiveness, that no one else would have ever been able to do it justice. ====================================================================== Remember...=========================================================== -Remember that if you've missed any TV Shows, PPV's or more?
