Less than 24 hours ago, The Rock walked out of SummerSlam as the new WCW Champion after pinning Booker T! The Bookerman and Shane McMahon certainly will address this situation tonight. Stone Cold Steve Austin held onto his World Wrestling Federation Championship, but don't think that Kurt Angle will let his questionable defeat go without a powerful response! To read it, click http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1075175 -Chris Jericho suffered what he believes to be a mild concussion during his match with Rhyno on Sunday at SummerSlam. Jericho said he's scheduled for a CAT Scan Monday morning. Y2J believes that the concussion probably happened when he was Gored on the floor by Rhyno. -Kane wrestled in a high-profile cage match at SummerSlam even though he's dealing with a nagging lower back problem. The Big Red Machine has either a bulging or herniated disc. "It's just enough that it's pressing on a nerve," Kane told WWF.com. "I'll treat it with medication and therapy and it'll be fine." Kane managed to get through his match without causing further damage. -Being part of a main event on Pay-Per-View is just as big of an honor for a referee as it is for a superstar. So when WCW official Charles Robinson was told that he'd be part of The Rock vs. Booker T confrontation, he was ecstatic. "Given a chance like this to work the Rock-Book match at SummerSlam is overwhelming," Robinson said. "To work with The Rock is a thrill in itself. To work a WCW Title match at the main event of a Pay-Per-View is even bigger." -The only thing set for RAW is WAR tomorrow night at this stage is Matt Hardy vs. Christian for the WWF European Championship. -Mick Foley will be the host of the new TNN show Battlebots which debuts tomorrow at 8pm right before RAW is WAR. -The LAW reports that when Jim Ross made the interesting comment at the end of the Ladder match saying "Could this be the last Ladder match we ever see?", it apparently was a sign of things to come because WWF management believes that those type of matches are too high-risk oriented and therefore the high-risk action will be toned down in the future. -A lot of the wrestlers were complaining that the ring ropes were much looser than usual and it led to a lot of blown spots, or at least spots that didn't look as good as they normally would have. It was obvious during many of the matches that ropes were entirely too loose. In the story, it credits pro-wrestling as a main reason for TNN catapulting from 21st in the basic cable prime-time ratings last year to 9th this year. In the story, it says the delay in signing the new contract is due to disputes over how grosses of PPV buys are to be collected. The WWF was quoted as saying it was a "matter of interpretation" on a contract clause. DirecTV said the dispute was over a "financial revenue-based line item" in the old, and expired after last night's SummerSlam PPV contract. WWFE's COO Stuart Snyder criticized DirecTV for taking the matter to arbitration. He was quoted as saying, "first and foremost, we care that our fans have access to our programming. We've valued our relationship with DirecTV in our distribution network, and hopefully one day they will be with us again." Looking further into the situation, DirecTV may not be signing a contract since they have been the target of a buyout. Both News Corporation, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and EchoStar, a satellite provider, have been in negotiations to buyout DirecTV. There have been snags in discussions for both companies. EchoStar, who had an offer rebuffed by DirecTV earlier this year, recently made an offer to buyout DirecTV for what is being reported as between $30- 32 billion in stock. The problem with EchoStar buying out DirecTV is that it would combine the two largest satellite providers, which would cause concern among antitrust regulators since it would only leave one option for people without access to cable. News Corporation has been in negotiations for a year to buyout DirecTV. They seem to have the inside track, but have been held up by complex regulatory and tax issues. When asked about the delay, Murdoch said, ``they are a very large company with a very large number of lawyers.'' News Corp. COO Peter Chernin said, in reference to the complex regulatory and tax issue, "we're hoping we're near the end of the process." What this all means is that DirecTV could not be signing a new contract with the WWF until they are bought out. This would allow the company that buys out DirecTV to make a deal they see fit with the WWF. In a related note, the WWF turned the heat up on DirecTV during the SummerSlam PPV broadcast by telling their fans that this PPV would be the last WWF PPV on DirecTV. Reports circulating say that it prompted numerous DirecTV customers to call and complain about the situation. In case you're interested, here's my scoring system. Each match is scored with a +1, 0 or a -1. The matches scored +1 are the good ones, the -1 matches suck and the matches scored 0 are a toss up. At the end of the night, add (or subtract) the points, there's your score. For example, a final score of zero would mean you had just as many good matches as bad matches. A score of -2 is something like last year's WCW Halloween Havoc. With that said...let's all drop our cash and get ready for Summerslam 2001. First of all, the WWF is famous for taking cool songs (from Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, etc.) and driving them into the ground with their pay-per-views, and such was the case with Drowning Pool's song, "Bodies". Maybe if they stuck to only playing the song 25 times during the show it wouldn't get so tiresome. Lance Storm vs. Edge: I guess those nasty internet rumors were right, Edge was getting over for the IC title. This was a nice paced match. Normally, I'm looking for nasty bumps in all the matches, but both guys were working well throughout the match, and WWF guys keep teasing that Christian heel turn. Score: +1 Spike & APA vs. Test & Dudley Boys: A spectacular bump from Spike Dudley doesn't qualify for a +1. However, it will balance out for a score 0. It seems the only reason Spike is in a match is to take one HUGE ASS bump to end the match. The members of the APA are starting to show their age. I like them better when all they did was cut promos at the poker table. Score: 0 Tajiri vs. X-Pac: I've said this a million times, so let me add another one to the pile. "Someone tell X-Pac that a spinning heel kick with funny hand motions isn't a wrestling move." Thank god we were spared the scary Bronco Buster. X-Pac sucks and not even Tajiri can make him look better. Plus, it doesn't help when you add Albert to the equation. Score: -1 Rhyno vs. Chris Jericho: These two worked well together. It was a nice move when Rhyno caught Jericho from the top rope with the spear. Plus, the match looked like it demanded a lot on the cardiovascular side. There were two ugly misses from Jericho, but nevertheless a good match. Score: +1 Rob Van Dam vs. Jeff Hardy: I could have almost called the score of this match. These two guys are no doubt the future of the sport. They gave fans move after move and big bump after big bump. Including a suplex and a sunset flip from the top of a ladder. I tseemed that both were trying to "out- bump" one anther. These types of matches are what classics are made of. You can call this Sammartino vs. Superstar Billy Graham of the year 2001. Score: +1 Undertaker/Kane vs. DDP & Chris Kanyon: I loved the violence of the match. Taker, despite not taking the bumps he used to, is a master of this type of match. It started with a huge opening bump from the top of the cage from Chris Kanyon, and it ended with a great sell job from DDP. Score: +1 Kurt Angle vs. Stone Cold: This one started slower than I expected. However, once SCSA rammed Angle's head n the steel ringpost about 75 times, it picked up. The action outside of the ring was off the hook, and Kurt Angle bled like Abdullah the Butcher. The Nick Patrick screw-job at the end was kind of lame. It's getting to the point you can call the outcome of any match that Patrick is involved in. Score: +1 Rock vs. Booker T: This was a match that started real slow. It picked up a bit, but there's only so much Rock could do to carry Booker T for fifteen minutes. It was overall a sub-par match. Hopefully, they can release Booker T now. Score: 0 Overall, this was a great improvement over the past two PPV's the WWF has offered fans. A final score of +4 is pretty damn good. That's my attempt at being Roger Ebert for the month.
