And when World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. acquired WCW from Turner Broadcasting System Inc. in March - after pounding it into submission in the ratings battle over the last few years - news reports put the price tag at up to $20 million. That marked a big drop from the reported $75 million that Fusient Media Ventures had offered for WCW during January, in a deal that later fell apart. As it turns out, the WWF - which has seen its ratings for fall since it moved to new cable home TNN: The National Network - only paid a measly $2.5 million for WCW, plus an additional $1.8 million in related costs, the company revealed in a recent earnings report. That's $4.3 million in total: the same price that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Gary Sheffield was seeking for his Tampa home, the exact amount it recently cost to build a new air traffic control tower at Central Illinois Regional Airport, or the cost of a couple of Super Bowl commercials. How did WCW's value fall from a reported $75 million offer to $4.3 million? The $75 million was a bogus number leaked by Turner executives "to save face," a source familiar with the deal said. Donahoe goes on to talk about the integration of WCW into WWF television, the WWF's new timeslot on TNN and more. Lance Storm - With Edge and Christian on Monday Night Raw, Lance Storm once again proved that you should take him seriously.... VERY seriously. Storm pulled yet another "offbeat shenanigan" and allowed his Genitalia and Ass to be viewed under the surveillance of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. As if that wasn't enough, to be laughed at by thousands at a show and millions watching at home, he's had 5 star matches with Rob Van Dam, his old tag team partner P.J. Walker (Justin Credible) and Kurt Angle, who , as a side note, has been working his ass off. Lance Continues to climb the ladder of success slowly but surely. The First Unified Champion - Anybody can call The Rock or Stone Cold, but if they were to hold the WWF and WCW titles, then in our opinion, it would be a sham to end all shams. There are many others who deserve that reward: Kurt Angle - Holds up the title of true WWF leader, and one of the best damn all around wrestlers, mic work and all. Chris Jericho - Although he has held neither belts, it'd be a sweet deal to see CJ get both belts, and hold them for a while. We Think its the best shot overall for the WWF right now, He has a very bright future. TRIPLE H - Our best bet if not Austin or Miavia is none other than HHH. Only in November will wrestling finally be able to be called WRESTLING when Paul Michael LeVesque comes back to the ring under the name of THE GAME. He will truly add the twist to this story line when he comes back, and it would be nice to see him as the first ever Unified WCW/WWF champion. Smokey and Johnny, The Dream Team ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= Tomac's Tirades - by Tomac "House Shows Suck" Last Sunday, I was one of the 6,000 people in attendance at a WWF house show in San Diego, CA. I specifically went for two reasons. #1 The Rock's return to the house show circuit #2 Stone Cold Steve Austin's return from injury. At least in my eyes, it seemed that this show was going to be a bit of an event. So, I begged some tickets off of a friend who works for the radio station that was sponsoring the show, and off I went. Now, before I get off on this subject, I'd like everyone to know that I paid $8.00 dollars for parking. Just in case you missed that last sentence....I PAID $8.00 FOR PARKING!! If Jesus Christ was in a "Hell in a Cell" match with Satan, I shouldn't have paid $8.00 for parking. With that said, when I first went to the show, I had the idea to cover the show as a writer, and work up a brief summary/commentary on the house show for the website I was writing for (RIP...LWN). What I ended up doing is getting pissed off about the quality of nearly every match that was offered (sans the Rock match). In fact, I would say that house shows are a HUGE waste of money for fans. Let's remember I'm talking about house shows, not pay-per- views or tapings for RAW or Smackdown. During the San Diego show there was a hardcore match between Rob Van Dam and Test that included one chair shot. One chair shot...that was it! They didn't even bring out the scary kendo-stick/newspaper holder. (Ironically, Test actually took a pretty stiff bump and ended up bleeding like Dusty Rhodes.) Most fans will pay a minimum of $25.00 for a seat in the nosebleed section and a maximum of $150.00 for ringside seats, just for a chance to see their favorite WWF superstar at a house show. For the fans hard-earned money, they get weak bumps, no promos, a lot of snap mares/bodyslams/snap suplexes. In other words, an overall sub-par show. In fact, the only way the show I attended could have been worse is if there were a David Flair/X-Pac match on the card. By the way, half of that nightmare came true when X-Pac was featured in a tag match Before all of you decide to throw a load of bitching my way...I understand that house shows serve as a "rehearsal" of sorts for Raw or Smackdown. However, if you can't give fans their money's worth, keep your rehearsals limited to the WWF's Trax training facility and let Taz bitch at you for your poor work ethic. There's my bitch for the week. If you would like to bitch about $8.00 parking, the potential of the David Flair entering the WWF or if you just agree with the brilliance of Tomac, you can drop me a line at tomac67@yahoo.com. ====================================================================== Remember...=========================================================== -Remember that if you've missed any TV Shows, PPV's or more?
