Concerning Summary Judgment in World Wildlife Fund Lawsuit STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2001--An opinion involving World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. was issued today by a trial judge in the High Court of London. We are pleased that the judge agreed with our position that the World Wildlife Fund has acted to restrain our rights to trade. However, we are disappointed that the judge accepted the Fund's justifications for these restraints without affording us a full trial and the right to question the Fund on its need for these restrictions. We do not believe that the Fund has, in any way, demonstrated that our use of the initials WWF has had any impact on the Fund's activities. We do not believe there is confusion in the public's mind between the World Wrestling Federation and the World Wildlife Fund and the logos of the two organizations. News ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -A quick update about what happened with Dean Malenko at the Pillman show. Jeff Marek talked to Dean this afternoon and it seems the whole thing has gotten a little out of hand. Dean meant to get across the message that he doesn't know if he'll be retiring from in-ring work but he is in the process of moving away from wrestling full time which is no secret. He'll start working with Cornette's Ohio Valley Wrestling and Les Thatcher's Heartland Wrestling promotions soon, training the developmental guys. He wanted to thank everyone at the Pillman show if that turns out to be his last match. -According to Dave Scherer, Smackdown drew a final 4.2 rating, with Tough Enough drawing its lowest ever rating of a 1.7. -The match between Ivory and Jacqueline at the Smackdown tapings was originally cut from the actual show due to time constraints. For those of you who actually care, Ivory won the match after a DDT. -The online Multichannel News had a "breaking news" story today about the WWF and DirecTV negotiating a contract renewal. The current deal expires at the end of the month. Perhaps the breaking part of this story is as follows: "DirecTV officials said the company is 'confident' that it will be able to renew its agreement with WWFE, which distributes one major PPV event per month." The feeling is amongst the wrestlers that if Jim Ross was around he wouldn't have pulled the stunt, and it led to several wrestlers claiming they would let Ross know about it at TV on Monday. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the rest of pro-wrestling//================================= -Dave Scherer reports that Tod Gordon, co-ECW founder will be helping out MECW at their debut show this weekend, as per the request of his good friend The Sandman. -Speaking of MECW, their card for Saturday night's show is so far: Curt Hennig vs. mystery opponent for the MECW Title, The Sandman vs. Sabu for the APW Title, and The Public Enemy vs. The FBI for the MECW Tag Team Titles. Add Crowbar to the list of wrestlers who will be appearing, whilst Too Cold Scorpio will not be attending as he has prior committments. -Bobby Heenan will reportedly be appearing at the MECW show in the former ECW Arena tonight. -Cody Monk has posted his latest wrestling column over at DallasNews.com. He reports that the WWF's original choice for WrestleMania 18 was Tropicana Field in Tampa, FL but the deal fell through when officials realised that the distance to the ring from the locker rooms would be half a mile, which would have required wrestlers to be transported to the ring in carts ala WrestleMania 6. As has been reported previously, Toronto is still the leading candidate for the WWF's version of the Olympics. The fluid was drained on Sunday. *Triple H (Paul Levesque) is expecting to return on November 1. He continues rehab for a torn quadriceps tendon, which is said to be progressing well. *Rikishi (Solofa Fatu) is expected to meet with Dr. Jim Andrews next week for an update on his shoulder. *Chris Benoit continues his rehab for his neck, which he had surgery on a little over a month ago, is progressing well. His return is expected to take place in the spring. *Trish Stratus (Patricia Stratigias) is beginning rehab for her recent ankle surgery. She is expected to return in a few weeks. *Billy Kidman (Peter Gruner) will be rehab a partial tear of his PCL ligament for the next three weeks. *Shawn Stasiak (Shawn Stepich) has a partially ruptured eardrum; however, he will not miss any time over it. *Stacy Keibler is working through a minor rolled ankle as well as a sore elbow. *Torrie Wilson also recently suffered minor rolled ankle. *Sean O'Haire has a small amount of elbow fluid and a slight AC joint shoulder separation; however, he too will continue to work through it. *Jerry Lynn has a minor knee sprain. It is said to heal in a few days. *WWF and Alliance members will participate in a charity softball game tomorrow (Saturday) at Shea Stadium at 11:30am. *William Regal, Scotty 2 Hotty, X-Pac and the Hardy Boyz will be at WWF New York tomorrow afternoon. *Raven and Terri will host Heat on Sunday from WWF New York. *The Rock will be at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles. *Terri will be in the U.K. from September 5-8 to promote Rebellion, which takes place in November from Manchester.
