He was originally going to be the promoter of the proposed Southern loop for the company, but left in a dispute with owner John Collins. The dispute centered around Smothers wanting to run smaller buildings than MECW would like. Smothers has reportedly found another backer and will run the area with him. As of a few days ago, MECW had considered dropping the idea of running two areas (they also plan to run in the east) and focus on one territory (again, the east).
