Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== -1Wrestling reports that Main Event Championship Wrestling (MECW), which is an indy federation out of Indiana is planning on becoming a national promotion turing the United States. The company is run and financed John Collins. Collins (who owns an arbitration firm), has plans to give health benefits to his wrestlers with a 401K plan. His vision is to have MECW be a throwback to traditional wrestling without T&A. MECW has signed, or is close to signing the following: Buff Bagwell, Joey Abs, Christian York & Joey Matthews, Sandman, Dawn Marie, Simon Diamond, Public Enemy, Francine, Sabu, Chris Chetti, Roadkill, Danny Doring, FBI, Tracy Smothers, all of Shawn Michaels students, Jack Victory, Wildcat Chris Harris, Michael Shane, Murray "Dupp" Happer, Jason Sensation, Dave Penzer, Blue Meanie, Jasmin St. Claire, a supposedly retiring Mikey Whipwreck & Steve Corino. Syndicated television is said to start on September 18th throughout the United States (including UPN-57 in Philadelphia, The Sunshine Network in Florida, The America One network, and the UPN affiliate that serves Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Northern Kentucky). Their first show is scheduled for August 11th at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia. They also hope to have added Joey Styles, Don "Cyrus" Callis and Terry Funk as announcers for their TV show once it gets started. Plans are also in place to invade Canada, Mexico and London, England. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -To read an interview with Bob Holly conducted by the Observer, click http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/news/interviews/default.asp?aID=3020 -Raw finished 7th in overnight ratings in Canada with 571,000 viewers. The leading show was the CTV Network's 6:00 News (CTV owns TSN, which airs Raw) with 973,000 viewers. The Canadian viewers were also treated to the SummerSlam preview for Famous Players movie theatres (they show the PPV's.) Before Vince had even came out on the show, the commercial told us about SummerSlam being the return of the Rock... the whole promo surrounded him and his return. -If you read Jim Ross's opinions on the PPV, he talked about how he thought that Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy may have done too many big spots at the PPV. The word going around among at least some of the wrestlers were that they feel it's actually the top wrestlers in the company who are watching guys like RVD and Hardy with a keen eye, so as to not get shown up. This is very similar to what happened when Hulk Hogan and company were in charge in WCW and it had a detrimental effect on the company. Hopefully, the same thing will not happen in the WWF. But, a number of wrestlers have told me that backstage politics have been heating up lately in the WWF, much more so than in the past. -RVD is being watched closely by management. After getting burned by Buff Bagwell, the WWF is reportedly going to pay much closer attention to guys who come into the company with a reputation. Thus far, Van Dam has been a model employee and made a good impression backstage. Unlike Bagwell, my personal opinion is that Rob will be fit in perfectly and could be a great draw for the WWF if he is given a chance. -Perry Saturn has been walking around everywhere backstage with the mop he carries on TV. It is not known if he is joking around or not. Which is a pretty damn funny situation. Source// Dave Meltzer, PWTorch, 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from WCW-ECW//=================================================== -This Thursday, July 26th, Rob Van Dam will be on "Spy TV" at 8:30pm on an NBC affiliate. -Paul Heyman has been ordered to attend the meeting of ECW creditors on 8/2 at Bankruptcy court in White plains at 11 a.m. The public can attend the meeting -The WCW website is now referring to the former Shane (and Gregory) Helms as Hurricane Helms. -Booker T has been very "excited" backstage since joining the WWF. He's enjoying being in the "big time" and is coming across as very confident in himself, not cocky, but very sure Source// The Law, 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the rest of pro-wrestling//================================= -In an interview with sherdog.com, Tank Abbott had the following to say about Billy Kidman: "Billy Kidman is at best a B-minus wrestler, and they f---in' pushed and pushed and pushed him. You never know why, wrestling is so politics." Abbott went on to say that his adventures with WCW were not a "raw deal," and said he just took checks to the bank. For fans that have already purchased tickets, an XPW representative will be calling you shortly to verify whether or not you still have plan to attend the show. -L.Brent Bozell put out a media release concerning the Derek Garland death in North Carolina. Nothing unexpected. "How many times must this happen before the entertainment community wakes up and realizes that they have responsibility for the products they produce and the messages they send to our nation's children? How many times will TV wrestling shows be 'excused' as 'just wrestling' though they have in recent years advanced a culture of violence - violence that when re- enacted by children lead to death?" -Mean Gene gave his Wrestling Report today on the John Boy and Billy Radio Show. Here are the highlights: *He praised Vince McMahon, RVD, the 100th Smackdown, and Raw's strong 5.4 rating. *He disputed the claim that Hulk Hogan's rumored promotion fell through, and said that he still felt like we would see it come together in October. (He did not dispute it very strongly though). *He said that "McMahon had paid a $50,000" stipend, bribe, or whatever you call it to "ECW's creditors", but went on to say that it was only covered 5% of ECW's debts. *He can't wait to hear what Kevin Nash has to say on the witness stand for the Gold Club Trial. *He is working on a book (who isn't in this business), that, he jokingly said, "will not be published until my passing." That should be a page turner! Talks Jim Ross talks on the current state of the WWF & more. In the article he says: "WCW had such an eroding fan base and really lost so much momentum before they went out of business," explained Ross. "I think (our) TV ratings were certainly a factor. The WCW roster, as the talent we were able to retain, didn't hold the sizzle and provide the singular threat against the WWF like they would have if we would have had the entire WCW roster intact with all the established main stars that had the name identity. We didn't have that luxury, so the ECW thing was really a great idea to put the WWF in a state of jeopardy with this threat of these two organizations combined. I think it's good booking in that respect. I think we overestimated what we thought we had in WCW, not necessarily the talent but with the brand itself."
