The story quoted a source close to the trustee handling the ECW Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings in the Southern District of New York. The story claimed no ECW assets have been purchased by the WWF and the court had no prior knowledge ECW trademarks would be used. Not only was the term ECW used as part of an angle, but the ECW insignia was used, their music was played and t-shirts with the logo were worn by all of the wrestlers on the ECW team. The irony to all this is this was a copy of the NWO angle in many ways, which WWF sued WCW for and eventually settled with them out of court. In that case, while one could say WCW may have never specifically the first few weeks of TV indicated that Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were not representing WWF, which was sort of alluded to on television without being said (and said more specifically on the WCW Hotline for a week before Hall & Nash & Eric Bischoff specifically made clear on television they were not representing the WWF). In this case, the term ECW was specifically said, talked about being purchased, while would leave the debtors which $7.5 million wanting to collect their money from the supposed new owner. Even as an angle and not reality of a purchase, the trademarks, currently the property of the bankruptcy court, and the name, were being used. It's almost inconceivable to me the WWF would do this without taking the proper steps if only because the company was on the other side of a legal case that was, if anything, less blatant. WWF officials were told not to comment on the legal situation other than say that ECW was mentioned on television as part of a fictional storyline. ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -Spike and Molly will be hosting Heat this Sunday at 7PM Eastern on MTV! -DirecTV Raw is War preview: Hour 1: The countdown to "Invasion" has begun Hour 2: Stone Cold looks to make a stunning return The TV Guide preview is pretty much the same: Scheduled: With "Invasion" on the horizon, Stone Cold looks to make a stunning return. From the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. -After two "experimental" live broadcasts of Smackdown in August, the show will revert back to a taped format, breaking plans the company had for the show to go live weekly. -WWF Tough Enough on MTV remained steady, posting a 2.1 composite rating. The show has bounced around in the lower 2's since it began airing four weeks ago. -Smackdown scored a 4.0 broadcast rating, with a 7.0 share, up from last week's 3.8. Smackdown had a great trend of building throughout the show. It started with a 3.4 quarter hour and built to a 3.9 by the end of hour one (doing two 3.7s in between). Hour two saw the show continue to grow, doing a 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4. The APA and Trish Stratus have gotten word of the event and say they will invade! To read all about it, click http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1067639 -More on Scott Hudson: When Scott worked for WCW, he also had a full time job with the federal government. While working for WCW, he worked for the government too. When he went to interview with the WWF originally, he told them that he would not leave his job for a position in wrestling. The WWF does not allow people to work part time for them, so Hudson wouldn't be a full time employee. Hudson was then asked if he would work with the WWF over four weeks to help get the WCW invasion angle started. He agreed and cleared time from his job to do so. After the way the angle went last week, they changed the direction of it and brought ECW into the mix. At that point, they didn't need WCW announcers any more and Hudson was told he didn't need to come to TV any more. Sources have told me that the WWF liked Hudson for his work ethic and appreciated him helping out.
