It has been rumored that Mick Foley would be WCW's new commish. -SmackDown!'s closing angle, and really most of the show, was designed to get Booker T over as a super babyface. From the time of the purchase, he was the anointed one and thus far due to the negativity toward the WCW brand name, it has not been a success. Obviously breaking up the pack is to create a heel group right away and link Booker with Undertaker (and also make Shane a babyface as well). To that degree, they are doing Shane vs. DDP in a street fight as the main event on Raw from Atlanta on Monday. Last Tuesday was a good example of post-production, which is a luxury Smackdown has had which has saved it many times. What's up? The WWF-WCW invasion is up. I'm really looking forward to this Pay Per View as I am looking for a lot of the WCW fans who stopped watching wrestling when we went off the air to tune back in and check it out. The feud with Taker is definitely heating up. Two weeks ago when I pulled the UnderTaker's wife Sara's hair out...well this week on Raw, she got me back. Two words...Good Gawd. Was that the best nut shot you've ever seen or what? I'd say Sara could kick a field goal from fifty yards out. For a person who just entered the business, I think she is doing an incredible job. She's shown tremendous fire and, believe me, I was getting my head out of the way when she was throwing those jabs because they...were coming. Wrestling ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= News and notes from Jim Ross *The WCW inclusion in our television broadcasts has certainly had its ups and downs thus far. Monday's RAW IS WAR main event between Booker T and Buff Bagwell did not deliver the in-ring performance we would have liked to have seen. The SmackDown! WCW matches were better and Sunday's Tag Team Title match on HEAT between Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire vs. Kanyon and Shawn Stasiak was a solid outing. Whether it be ring rust, the larger 20-foot ring, nerves or a combination of these factors, the in-ring product of our WCW roster is not where it needs to be or, certainly, where it will end up. For the most part, the attitude of these talents has been refreshingly positive and no one here has ever doubted the pure athletic ability of many of these individuals. Our staff is working virtually every day to improve the overall presentation of the WCW-World Wrestling Federation Invasion, but we all agree we have a lot of work to do. We will get there and I hope you all stay with us on this bumpy journey. Believe it or not, our destination is in sight. I've always said that the hard work of talented individuals cures lots of ailments. *Spike Dudley suffered a broken leg during SmackDown! This is a hairline fracture of the fibula that will limit Spike's physical activity for a few weeks. He is in a soft cast. Spike has been a very pleasant addition to our roster. *The Goodfather has two pulled hamstrings and will be off the road for a week or two. *Chris Benoit is feeling great after neck surgery last week. *Stone Cold Steve Austin is still having problems with his lower back, which was injured at King of the Ring. Austin will not be on the road this weekend but may be able to be more physical at TV in Atlanta or Birmingham. *Atlanta's RAW Monday in the Philips Arena should be interesting ... for many reasons. I am anxious to see how the crowd responds to the WCW content. I'm also anxious to see how WCW talents react to the challenge of improving their in-ring technique. It's a big night for all of us. *Scott Hudson and Arn Anderson have been thrust into a tough spot as announcers for WCW. These two had no preparation time but gave us all they had when called upon. They will improve on our way to finding permanent on-air talents for WCW. Some of the criticism directed at Scott and Arn is unfair, from where I sit. *Obviously, our injury situation is hurting us. We have to adjust creatively and our healthy talents have to continue to improve. An old business adage that says, "injuries open the door for others" has never been more true. *Torrie Wilson's on-camera work on TV this week was excellent. Nice start for the young lady. *Billy Kidman and Gregory (don't call me Shane) Helms worked damn hard on SmackDown! The Tacoma crowd was tough on these two cruiserweights, who most fans either did not know or care about, creatively. Both these competitors have significant upsides in my view. *"Backstage" vignettes featuring Austin, Kurt Angle, Mr. McMahon, Commissioner Regal and Tajiri have been extremely entertaining. Edge and Christian have certainly had their moments, as well, with these TV opportunities. Some of this stuff is laugh-out-loud funny; remember, humor is hard to do. *I get lots of e-mails, more than ever before, regarding my announcing partners, past and present. Some tell me I'm crazy for working with my current partner while others say I'm the luckiest man on earth to have him. Others say my last partner cannot be replaced and that things will never be the same without him. The cliché "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sure sounds applicable here. So far so..umm...I'm not really sure what to say about it except that its giving me a few things to comment on this week. First off is Test getting the hell kicked out of him because the APA and co. thought he was the mole. Next there was Booker T getting jumped and beaten by Kurt Angle and Steve Austin during his match against Buff on RAW. Then we have Vince's little escapade with Torrie Wilson on Smackdown. Overall I think its been a pretty good week of TV. I'm really getting into this Kurt Angle/Steve Austin team just because I know at any given time the "hero" and the "Indian Giver" are going to go at it. I was almost going to make Angle getting beaten by Booker T at the end of Smackdown this week's winner but then reviewing the week's TV and the laughs i found without a shadow of a doubt this week's winner... The winner(s) are..Kurt Angle and Steve Austin Ok, I couldnt resist giving them the award. Why? Pretty much for what they did to Buff Bagwell at the end of RAW Monday Night. Buff trying to celebrate with them was pretty funny then their reaction and subsequent beating of Bagwell was some of the best TV in a while. Like i said I can't wait to see more of Kurt And Austin. I get the feeling that once this invasion thing is over, Kurt/ Austin is our SummerSlam Main Event, but thats a whole different topic.
