Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== -Joey Styles issued this statement via 1wrestling.com today: Recent reports online and in print newsletters have reported incorrect details regarding my recent negotiation with WWFE. In order to correct the false information that has been reported, I am releasing this statement. I can confirm at this time that I was offered a full time position with WWFE and unfortunately, had to turn it down. I found everyone I met with at WWFE in May, including Jonathan Coachman, Michael Cole, Chris Chambers, Jennifer Goode and Kevin Dunn, to be exceptionally professional, polite and pleasant and I conducted myself in the same manner. I turned down the offer for several reasons. My primary reason for rejecting the WWFE offer was that I had already returned to the corporate world and accepting the full time WWFE offer would have meant taking a substantial cut in pay, which I was not prepared to do. In a perfect world, I would have been offered and accepted a part time position with WWFE that would have allowed me to contribute to their television programs while still pursuing my other business ventures. I wish everyone at WWFE and in the worldwide professional wrestling and sports entertainment industry continued success. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -Big news seems to be a cryptic statement by Istockforecast.com talking about a major business announcement regarding company operations and corporate structure of WWF that will cause a rise in stock price. The article wasn't clear, but appears to be the announcement of a second national touring group which would enable them to sell additional licensing and merchandise (WCW). Whether that is good or bad for the company bottom line is certainly not a given at this point. Maybe there's another huge announcement on the horizon. -Dave Meltzer reports that Spike Dudley may have suffered a broken ankle during his match on SmackDown! last night. More on this is forthcoming. -Don't be shocked if Steve Austin works a very light schedule between now and the Invasion PPV. Austin, whose back was injured at the King of the Ring PPV when he took a stiff move through the Spanish announcers' table from Booker T, was in great pain after doing the beat down angle with Booker and Buff at Monday's Raw. Since he is the WWF champ and a draw for the Invasion PPV, which is more and more looking as if it will need all of the drawing power it can get, it's very possible that Austin will not wrestle again until that show so that he can be in the best shape possible for the show. -Last night's edition of Smackdown scored a 4.8 overnight broadcast rating, with an 8.0 share. -Just a reminder that King Edge will be on Byte This! this afternoon at 4PM at WWF.com -There's an article on the WWF crew at WWF.com about the break they've had this week. The WWF has also purchased the rights to WCWPowerPlant.com -SLAM! Wrestling reports that when Smackdown! goes live on August 16th, Smackdown! will change its name and become a WCW wrestling show. The first WCW pay-per-view will probably take place in October as well. -It is believed that the WWF changed Shane Helm's first name to Gregory Helms to avoid there being two "Shane's" in WCW. WWF did the same thing recently changing Steven Regal to William Regal to avoid having "Steve" be repetitive. Helm's real first name is Gregory. -Up at WCW.com they have posted the following: "Shane McMahon won't stand for insubordination of any sort. After being jumped by Diamond Dallas Page at the end of SmackDown! on Thursday night, the WCW Chairman was so enraged that he dared Page to face him in a Street Fight this Monday night on RAW IS WAR! DDP, the King of Badda Bing, agreed to slug it out with the King of Sting, Shane McMahon this Monday in Atlanta!" -There's also their version of WCW SmackDown! up at the website. The word out of the locker room is that Buff is rubbing a lot of people the wrong way, from management to the workers. As part of Smackdown, there was an angle where the WWF team was going to get a lot of heat on Buff by giving him a beating and leaving him laying. After taking a stiff APA powerbomb, which I was told was a very safe spot where he took it properly, Buff told the wrestlers involved in the spot that he had injured his neck, was seeing stars, and asked not to be moved. Apparently not believing him, the beatdown on him continued to end the show. The feeling in the back was that Buff wasn't hurt and just didn't want to take the beating, which did not score him points with anyone. Along with having a tendency to insist on getting in his Buff Blockbuster, even when booked to lose, feigning injury is a stunt Buff has gained a reputation for pulling many times while in WCW when he didn't want to do something he had been asked to do by the creative team. It's something that the WWF is already wise to and watching out for. They are also reportedly just waiting for the first time Buff says he does not want to do the job to someone, which is another trait that the WWF has heard he brought with him from WCW. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= Joanie Laurer appeared on New York's UPN 9 News to explain why she's no longer a part of the World Wrestling Federation. She's hopes that her future is in Hollywood. WWF CEO Linda McMahon explained to UPN's Dave Barker that Chyna had just had surgery, and is recovering. She also said that her contract renewal provision was set for November but that the 9th Wonder of the World has opted to pursue other endeavors, which is why the contract will not be renewed. Laurer went over how wrestling's current monopoly (Vince McMahon's purchase of WCW along with his ownership of the WWF) ultimately eliminated her marketing leverage in contract negotiations, and said that that was business. Laurer also surmised that it was possible there were no longer any potential ideas for the Chyna character, given that she had worked with all the men and the women, and that she wouldn't be World Champion tomorrow. In the preview for the story, Laurer told Barker "I feel I would be doing a disservice to myself, to the fans, and to the company [by staying]." She concluded that the only positive step for her would be to move forward outside of the Federation. Now that she's chosen to looking towards Hollywood for a career, she understands that she has to pay her dues, just like she paid them in the wrestling ring, by starting at the bottom of Hollywood's totem poll and working her way to the top. Though she's filmed a part for Disney's Frank McKlusky C.I., Laurer also explained that she wanted to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a big action movie like King Conan or Terminator 3. I thought I'd hold off on final judgement at this point; considering they've only had three matches on WWF TV so far. I can say to this point, I'm disappointed, but it's early. And with each new day, there's fresh hope. Anyway, what I did want to talk about was this week's episode of Tough Enough. Now I'm not going to make a habit of rehashing the show each week, but I think this week's installment was a great reminder of what the business of wrestling is really like. Us as fans see the glamour and the glitz. We expect these guys to do their best to entertain us each week. We read about the "sacrifices" that wrestlers make, but does it ever sink in? First off, the pain is excruciating. We see it on the wrestlers, but we're led to believe that they're larger than life. Well, they're not. They're human, just like you and me. The bleed, they sweat, and they pay the price. It just makes me mad when some pseudo intellectual jerk says "Oh, wrestling is fake." The next time they do, I'm gonna show them just how fake it is. As for a social life, unless you like hanging out with your co- workers, or your ambition is to marry a groupie, they're just isn't one. Being on the road for 200 to 250 days a year is brutal. Not only on marriages, but families as well. What if you couldn't see your loved ones? How would you feel? I have to admit, I felt bad for Jason, the guy that dropped out. I respected his decision though. while he liked wrestling, he just couldn't put it over his loved ones. There's no shame in that. Some people want to make their career the center of their universe. That's cool. There's no wrong or right. You just have to pick what's best for you. Good luck to you Jason. As for Darryl, this monosyllabic mongoloid has done it again. When asked what he thought about it, he repiled "Makes no difference to me. It just gives me a better shot to win." This guy not only has a bad work ethic, he's unathletic, self absorbed, self centered, dumb as a brick, and the other contestants hate him. Who did he blow to even get on this show? Being on the road has got to suck for an individual's well being as well. How many times do you think these guys get a homecooked meal? How many times do you think they can go to a movie, or to the ballpark. That is, when they're not invied as some kind of PR? Living in a suitcase for most of the year has got to be just awful. Yeah, the top guys are getting paid top dollar, but is it enough? You figure after an event, they're on the road to the next town, getting in at all hours of the morning. Then they try to get a few winks in before maybe finding a gym and working out, grabbing some grub, and heading to the arena to start the cycle all over again. Do this 200 to 250 times A YEAR, and tell me you like it. You may, and if you do, you're a better person then I am, because I couldn't do it. I think if anything, Tough Enough is going to teach the mainstream fan what us longtime fans have known for a while. That while wrestling is a tremendous form of entertainment, a lot goes into it. There are prices to be paid by the performers, bith physical and mental.
