Professional wrestler Christopher Adams turned himself into Collin County authorities Monday on manslaughter charges in connection with the April 2000 death of a Dallas woman. Linda Kaphengst, 30, died from an overdose of alcohol and Gamma-Hydroxy-Butyrate (GHB) April 22., according to the Collin County medical examiner. She had been at a Far North Dallas apartment early that morning with Mr. Adams, who also overdosed, police said. Mr. Adams, 45, who wrestled professionally under the name "Gentleman Chris," was released on a $25,000 bond Monday night, authorities said. He faces a second-degree felony charge of causing the death of an individual, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $2,000 fine. Chris Adams is best known among long time fans from his run in the 80's as a top star for World Class Championship Wrestling. His "Dynamic Duo" heel team with Gino Hernandez feuded with the Von Erich brothers, and as a babyface he held the WCCW World Heavyweight title, defeating Rick Rude for the belt. He went on to work in the UWF, Global, and in recent years worked for WCW while competing on the indy circuit. He ran his own wrestling school out of Dallas, with his most famous student going on to become Stone Cold Steve Austin. It was done yesterday (Thursday) morning in San Antonio, Texas. Unforunately, Benoit's recovery time will be longer than first expected. Not only will Monday feature the first WCW-sanctioned match since the final episode of Nitro back in March, but it will also feature the first time that a WCW bout will be contested on RAW IS WAR! This is truly history in the making! -There are rumors that the WWF has contacted Scott Hudson about possibly coming in as the WCW announcer. This will be interesting considering that the WWF expects their employees to work for them full time and even when Hudson was the lead announcer on Nitro, he still kept his job outside of the wrestling business. They will also most probably expect him to move from Georgia to Connecticut, which is costly. Plus, the rumored salary that they are offering for the spot is less than $100,000 a year, which sounds like a lot but living in Connecticut really isn't. However, Regal will still be on the card and Perry Saturn has been added to the event. A new main event will be announced soon. -This week's edition of Sports Illustrated has a section dedicated to "Where are they now" stories. One of those featured is former football player and wrestler Wahoo McDaniel. The main gist of the story was that Wahoo, 63, needs a kidney transplant and is raising his 12 year old son Zac, but it also talked about how former president George Bush was his baseball coach as a kid. They talked about Wahoo's career in wrestling in a very respectful manner. In a funny story, after the fact at least, he said that he was once attacked by a fan outside the ring, so he pistol whipped him. His 9 mm went off and shot Dirty Dick Slater in the leg. Wahoo said he had to pay Slater's salary for six weeks. -Eric Stoltz (Pulp Fiction, Little Women) make his directorial debut with a Showtime Movie-My Horrible Year, on July 8th. It a coming of age story of a 16 year old girl. Bret "The Hitman" Hart will have a cameo in the film. -Norman Smiley returns to EMLL on Sunday in the main event as Black Magic. He was world champion there about ten years ago. Highlights include *WCW acquisition was discussed as well as its impact on future earnings. The current method of incorporating WCW into the WWF will involve the "Invasion" PPV set up for July 22nd. Current plans are to schedule live WCW house shows, and possibly 3 to 4 seperate WCW PPV's. The first WCW PPV is tenatively scheduled for October. There are currently no plans for WCW TV programming, and it will depend largely on the success of the WCW house shows. Linda McMahon said that the current TV and advertising market suggests that there may not be sufficient revenues to justify the increased production costs of creating a WCW TV program. *Linda McMahon addressed the declining ratings for Smackdown and Raw. She made sure to mention the slight increase in rating due to WCW involvement, and ensured listeners that new storylines will give them even more momentum. There are current plans to turn Smackdown into a live show due to the fact they belive Smackdown Spoilers are hurting ratings. *WWF believes that the biggest revenue gains will be in the international markets. The acquisition of WCW allows the WWF to have greater international touring. There was mention of a possible WCW Asian tour in September. *The new TV show "Tough Enough" on MTV is a success, with a guarantee of thirteen shows. *Smackdown Records, which will release a "Tough Enough" album in September and has signed its first band, "Erotica". *Linda McMahon mentioned the success of "The Mummy", and that the prequel "Scorpion King", now being filmed, which will earn the WWF a production fee of $2 million. The Rock will receive a flat guarantee of $5.5 million plus a progressive percentage of box office revenues. Overall, people seemed pleased with the current results, which were great considering the huge losses from the XFL. The overall outlook for continued growth is positive. Here are some impertinent thoughts on the happenings of the past few days... King of the Ring was a solid effort, capped off with Edge winning the tournament. One question: Since when does winning King of the Ring mean you get possession of the Stanley Cup? Is there a better daredevil right now than Shane McMahon? After seeing him go through those glass panels, I was just cringing. Not just for him, but for Angle too. That was one of the most dangerous things I've seen in a while. I have to admit, I'm more impressed with Trish Stratus as each day goes by. Seeing her with the Big Blow just goes to show us how much she is into charity work. Albert as IC champion? Whose brilliant idea is this? This makes about as much sense as Rick Rude losing a pose down to the Brooklyn Brawler. By the way DDP, nice botched Doofus Cutter on Kane. If I see Puss 3:16 hug Vince again, I'm calling Monroe from "Too Close for Comfort," and giving him Austin's number. If you have the opportunity, watch Tough Enough on MTV. I must say, it's one of the better reality shows out there. And you have to admit, it's cool to see the behind the scenes stuff. As for Darryl, he's a big wussy. Anyway, the grand scheme I guess is that WCW will eventually take the Raw time slot, and Smackdown will be on Thursdays. I still can't believe TNN couldn't give Vince another timeslot. I mean, he only saved the inbred, redneck, chaw spitting network from nationwide apathy. They may have "Pop", but it was supplied by Vincent K. McMahon. And lastly, let me see if I can get this straight: Tazz demands that Puss 3:16 apologize to Michael Cole for beating him up last week. "Michael Cole is my friend and my partner." Wasn't it about a year ago that Jerry Lawler was demanding the same thing from Tazz over some guy named JR?
