You could also tell that the main event was hyped, but not well. There's also the hint of something BIG going down with the two Chris' this weekend simply because they dropped their tag titles. Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== -WWFE cuts all ties to Memphis Championship Wrestling WWF has dropped all affiliation with Memphis Championship Wrestling, and its promoter, Terry Golden, is being released from his contract in 30 days. The wrestlers there will be under deals for 30 days. The Island Boys, Victoria, Steve Bradley, The Haas Brothers and Lance Cade are being retained and will work the new WWF developmental territory based around Louisville (OVW) and Cincinnati (HWA). Since the two cities are so close, they will run two different promotions but work a lot together. Those who will be cut from developmental are American Dragon, Rodney, Shooter Schultz, Christian York, Joey Matthews, Joey Abs, Sylvester Terkey, Brian Keck, Mike Howell and 2-3 more are on the bubble as well. Regarding UPW as its affiliation with WWF, there is no actual answer. WWF is going to consolidate the development program in the Cincinnati-Louisville region to better manage and facilitate it. Rick Bassman of UPW had a different deal and aspects of the deal are changing, but he will still have an affiliation with them but no longer be under contract to them. Former ECW security director Ronnie Lang, who is also the president of Atlas Protection, has been named Head of Security for Diana Ross. He will be traveling with her on all of her upcoming concert tours and personal appearances in the Unites States and Europe. Lang was in charge of the ECW security team during ECW's run and did a fantastic job of keeping unruly fans in line Source// Dave Meltzer ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -6/21 Smackdown was slightly up from last week's record setting low, scoring a 4.6 overnight composite and an 8 share. -As it appears now, it's very likely that there will be a heavy WCW influence at the King of the Ring PPV this weekend. The WWF has tried to keep it under wraps, but in addition to Dallas Page, Booker T and Buff Bagwell are expected to be at the show and will probably have on camera roles at the show. The Invasion angle, which will be the focal point of the July Invasion PPV, is, at this point, scheduled to feature a multi-man WCW vs. WWF match up. -Expect the Rock to return at Summerslam. At least, that's what the Rock expects to be doing, according to an interview on his official site, www.TheRock.com. In the interview, the former WWF Champion talks about taking time off in July following the filming of Scorpion King to be with his family, then returning to the ring. In the interview, Rock also clears up a quote attributed to him in Premiere magazine that stated he would be giving up the ring for the lure of the silver screen. Just a reminder that the 'Lita, It Just Feels Right' tape hits stores on June 26th. -ACCESS HOLLYWOOD LOOKS AT THE STATE OF THE WWF The WWF was featured Thursday night on Access Hollywood. They posed questions such as, "Has the WWF hit Rock Bottom?" What are they doing now to remain a ring leader? Is Smackdown in a slump? Has the Rock's movie career put a ding in the ring? Stephanie McMahon said that "maintaining the momentum of the WWF is certainly a tough job." She said that it's "more of a challenge to have viewers find TNN." They said that the Rock's hiatus has them in search for a King of the Ring. They showed clips of Tough Enough and WWF footage. They said it's been a rocky road for Vince McMahon, with the dreadful disappointment of the XFL and tumbling ratings. They said Smackdown's last rating was it's lowest ever. They showed a graphic comparing years (last year, 9.2 million) to (now, 5.7 million), down nearly 40 percent. They said things will get tougher in the fall, with Friends, Survivor and Temptation Island that will take a bite out of the young male audience. Stephanie, the director of television marketing, said that "while maintaining the momentum of the WWF certainly is a tough job, we're up for any challenge. They mentioned the switch from USA to TNN for Raw. They said Raw was down 1.9 million (25 percent) from last year and down 32 percent since January. Stephanie said that "while some people say that television shows are cyclical, I think really it is the audiences' taste that is cyclical; the biggest challenge is just to be able to keep up with what your audiences' taste is." Stephanie said the stuff with MTV is a "natural fit." The N.Y. Post gave Tough Enough 4 stars. Stephanie said "if it's a success, we'll definitely garner more viewers." On WCW, Stephanie said that "we made the acquisition and now it's a large part of our story line and is a tremendous opportunity." The Rock, on wrestling and movies, said, "I'll certainly juggle both as long as I can." The commentator Pat O'Brien said that Raw is still the top-rated series on cable. He said Kurt Angle will defend his King of the Ring title on Sunday. He finished talking while giving his version of the "People's Eyebrow." As has already been reported, there will be a multi-man match at Invasion, and the stipulation may be that if team WCW wins, then they may get control of RAW. -Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire have been pulled from next Tuesday's UPW show in order to report to MSG and the SmackDown! tapings. (AP) - A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for strangling his infant son with a wrestling hold used to stop the baby from crying. James Gomez pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in April in a plea agreement and received the maximum punishment Thursday. Prosecutors accused Gomez of using a ``choker hold'' on 4-month-old James Gomez Jr. that cut off the blood flow to the baby's brain. The child died Feb. 7, 1999. The baby's mother told authorities that Gomez, her boyfriend, commonly used the wrestling hold on the baby to make him unconscious when he was crying, court records said. Gomez said he did not cause his son's death and insists the boy died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or from suffocation by a pillow. King of the Ring this weekend. Where legends are made, and flushed down the toilet. (Sorry, just remembering that Hogan/Yokozuna match from the first KOTR). Anyway, the card looks like it should be decent; what little of it there is anyway. I'm not a huge fan of X-Punk, but his match with Jeff Hardy could be the sleeper match of the night. If these two can put on a good show, it will be a good boost for the light-heavyweight division. I like Jeff Hardy in this one. As for the actual tournament, I just have a feeling the Olympic hero is in for the screw job of all screw jobs. I can't see Rhyno siding with the zero over Edge and Christian; at least not without a good reason. I'm still going with Edge to win it all. It should be a really bad night for Angle as the WCW "Invasion" begins to take shape. Watch for massive WCW interference, costing the zero the match. Oddly enough, the next pay per view is called "Invasion." You might thing I'm crazy, but I think they're trying to tell us something. I have to admit, I was surprised the stalker turned out to be the Dirtbag of Doofus, but it was actually cool seeing DDP again. However, for any of you expecting a match on Sunday, forget it. They're gonna milk it for all they can get, and hold off until the aforementioned PPV. With the Chris Connection now without the belts, speculation is now running rampant over the big three way dance. Many are now saying Chris Jericho will walk away with the gold. I find that just a bit hard to swallow for a few reasons (1) If anyone is going to beat Austin, it will be Benoit. Benoit has been a champ before, and would be a good fit for the WWF (2) Austin is apparantly getting good heat as a heel, so why spoil it by having him drop the belt now? (3) There has been some speculation that Vince will drop Austin for Jericho. This idea is more lame brained than Austin with McMahon. If there was anyone that was as anti-establishment as Austin, it's Jericho. And also, if you do this, are you admitting that the Austin heel turn was a mistake? It would be as bad as the angle where Sgt. Slobber was a heel, and then begged forgiveness after getting his clock cleaned. Stupid. Call me lame, but I think Austin walks out as champ. It's not the popular pick, but hey, I like to go against the grain now and then. And lastly, where the hell is the rest of the card? No Kane, no Dudleys, no Accolytes, no Hollys, no Regal, no Chyna.
