(NYSE: WWF) today announced changes to strengthen its ability to offer an integrated brand message, provide better service to fans, and further enhance the web experience that its WWF.com network has become known for around the world. Shane McMahon, President of WWFE's New Media Division, announced that the company's e-commerce efforts would be rolled into its Consumer Products Division to provide additional support and greater flexibility to meet market opportunities. He also announced that WWFE's corporate marketing group would take over the task of marketing support for WWF.com, ensuring WWF.com network promotion would receive greater benefit from overall corporate marketing efforts. The changes bring the company closer to its goal of establishing one brand marketing strategy and message across all electronic and print media platforms. Source// AP ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= What If? - By The Vile Ran into my old buddies Mr. Peabody and Sherman a few days ago, and they let me use their wayback machine. They told me all I had to do was type in the era I wanted to go to, and pull the lever on the machine. It came up two lemons and a cherry. Whoops, wrong story. Anyway, I did have an interesting question for them: WHAT IF ED LESLIE (Brutus Beefcake) HAD PASSED ON GOING PARASAILING ON THAT AUGUST DAY IN 1990? It was a gruesome accident. Leslie's face was smashed into a million bits requiring seven steel plates to reassemble his face. It also ended his career as an effective wrestler. It was also the second time in three years that he was going to miss his shot at IC glory at Summerslam. We know the rest from there. But what if he had just decided to kick back and relax that day? I believe that two major things would have happened: (1) Brutus of course was going to win the IC belt from Hennig. I believe that would have been the start of big things for him. Don't believe me? Well, a year later, a primarily tag team wrestler (Bret Hart) took the IC strap from Hennig, and ran with it. Now I'm not saying that Beefcake was going to go on to win the WWF title. Who knows; maybe he might have. But I do think he would have been a strong second tier wrestler in the mold of Booker T. when he was TV champ. After all, Brutus was a decent performer in the ring, and his character was always well received. (2) WWF fans would have been deprived of seeing one of the all time greats in the late Kerry Von Erich. Now granted, Von Erich was on the downside of his career, but Vince needed a big name in that IC match. And with Von Erich languishing in World Class, Vince had the fixer- upper he needed. The big problem was Kerry was well received at first, but the novelty wore off quickly. Unless you were a true wrestling fan, or a teenage girl, Von Erich just didn't do much for you. He was also in constant pain by then, the after effects of crushing his ankle in that horrific motorcycle accident in the mid eighties. Like his nickname though, he was a true "Modern Day Warrior." And even though I had seen him in other promotions, I was so happy to see him make the WWF. Without Leslie's misfortune, many people would never have heard of the "Texas Tornado." You know what they say; One man's tragedy is another man's triumph. Although in the end, Leslie did perform in WCW for awhile. And we all know of Kerry's fate.
