Teh WWF blew through Canada and came out with 2 new superstars. The real test is if they can get the same kind of heat behind them tonight in the States liek they did in Canada. I'm of course talking about Benoit and Jericho. What also should be interesting tonight is the start of the KOTR tourney beginning with the qualifying matches. With such a big talent pool this year, the types of matches we SHOULD be seeing will be great! Here's hoping tonight's is a big show...and that my wet dream of an Angle/Storm match at the PPV will come true! For now, enjoy Laines latest commentary and the latest installment of "What If?" (Off-the-Wall Ideas and Predictions) by ~*Laine*~ - Week of June 4, 2001 ~"How Can I Be Successful Without My Ass?"~ The commissioner had an unexpected guest. "Master William Gunn, what brings you to my office?" Regal exclaimed, trying to feign interest in the sudden visit. "I haven't seen you in weeks, except on Sunday Night Heat, and who really watches that?" "It's 'Billy'," The One scowled. "And thanks for reminding me how low I've dropped in the pecking order. In fact, that's what I've come to see you about... for a guy who was main event status a couple years ago, you're keeping me pretty low-profile, don't you think?" "Well, you must understand, your new gimmick isn't going over well with the fans," Regal explained delicately. "Oh, why beat around the bush? 'The One' is simply boring!" "You think I don't know that?" Billy Gunn cried, throwing his hands into the air in disgust. "Hey, it wasn't my idea in the first place! It all started when that whiny little dude with the big stick up his ass... that miserable little puke Steven Richards stuck his nose right up my... business." "Yes, the Right to Censor won the match, which caused you to forfeit your former gimmick, the..." Regal grimaced. "The Ass Man." "I want my ass back!" Billy exclaimed. "Right to Censor is practically disbanded now, so I want to go back to capitalizing on this incredible ass!" Regal sighed wearily. "Look, you're wasting my time. There's no entertainment value in this whatsoever. No one wants to see your buttocks." "I beg to differ," Billy Gunn argued. "At least let me win it back! Even you have to admit, everyone would like to see me beat the crap out of Steven Richards." "Where is that cheering coming from?" Regal muttered. "Well, you're right on one count, at least. All right... you've got your match. If you beat Steven Richards, you can have your ass." ** Billy Gunn strode to the ring to the refrain of "I've Got It All", hoping it would be the last time. Steven Richards awaited his opponent in the ring; he had changed since departing the Right to Censor. While he still wore the traditional black pants and white shirt, the pants were rumpled, the shirt was dishevelled and unbuttoned, and his hair was tousled, growing long, and falling into his eyes. Billy eyed Steven warily. Then, inexplicably, Steven dropped to the mat, spread-eagled on his back. "What are you doing?" Billy asked, bewildered, as he climbed through the ropes and stood over Mr. Richards. "Just pin me," Steven hissed. Shrugging, Billy, never one to pass up a golden opportunity, hooked the leg and waited for the one-two-three. The bell sounded, and good ol' Finkel announced the winner of the Ass Match... BAD ASS BILLY GUNN! "I'M AN ASS MAN!" the loudspeakers declared, and as the crowd erupted, Mr. Ass helped Steven Richards to his feet. "What's going on?" Billy asked, utterly discombobulated. Steven grabbed a mic and, tearing off his shirt, bellowed, "From now on, you're looking at Bad Ass Stevie Richards! I've had it with self control! I'm through with censorship! I have seen the error of my ways, and I, too, want to use my ass to my advantage! Will you lead me on the path to glory?" Ever affable, Billy grinned and slung an arm amiably around Stevie's bare shoulders. "Why not? You can be my ass protege!" ...and the rest is up to the WWF writers! Until next week -- "dreamlike crazy..." ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= What If - By Leno What if there still were only 4 pay per views. The PPVs would be Wrestlemania, SummerSlam, the Royal Fumble, and Survivor Series. Now, obviously, some of us would have to take on a few new hobbies, because we know what to do in the 114 hours every year when we weren't watching the other scheduled 84 PPVs, but who is counting? The point is that there would be some definite changes with only 4 PPVs, especially in the areas of weekly shows, Sat.Nite Main Event, and the quality of the current PPVs. And speaking of the Monday Night Wars, there would be none. That's right, there would be no Monday Night Wars. The competition between WWF and WCW wouldn't exist on Mondays, because the revenue would be flowing more from the houseshows, not the PPVs. The current state is that the shows are live in order to keep storylines fresh; titles change frequently, faces turn to heels and vice versa quickly, becuase PPVs have to be marketed, sold, and re-marketed, often times during the actual PPV itself. For example, during the the last Wrestlemania, after the buyer laid down a hard earned 50 bucks just to watch the event, the had the gaul to advertise the next PPV THAT SAME MONTH. And this states what permeates there current marketing trend: market the PPV's with high priority. This is because a significant portion of the revenue comes from PPVs. So, Raw and defunct Nitro exist only to market the next PPV. Traditionally, this what not the case, because with only 4, the only Monday Night mat show was Prime Time Wrestling. Prime Time showed matches which were never ever ever ever ever...did I say ever? LIVE. They were always from a month ago, or something. Most often, they emenated from MSG or the Boston Gardens. They were basically house shows spliced into a two hour show. The point is this: as the PPVs decrease, the need for heavy Monday Night Marketing decreases. So, without a gillion PPV's to market, you might have a champion who holds the belt for more than 2 weeks. (AKA. HHH and what's-his-nuts). The second change if there were only four PPVs is that Saturday Night's Main Event would still be around, and yes, it was a helluva cool-ass show. Without 48 PPVs a year, the WWF HAD to have something between the the events to retain the public's interest. ANd once again, it was STILL A HOUSE SHOW!! It was simply shown in ultra high techni-color, and it was edited, and packaged as an hour and a half of the best wrestling you could possibly see. As a matter of fact, I'm STILL looking for the onw with Valentine/ Beefcaksv.Bulldogs; Hogan v. Muraco; and Piper v. Mr.T. Those were CLASSIC!!! :) Of course, now that we have 48 PPVs, who needs the Main Event, right? Foooey on that..I'd give anything to see that stuff again. Finally, the difference with only 4 PPVs is that the existing ones would be better. I'm sorry, but how can I get excited about seeing StoneCold v. Undertaker, when I've already seen StoneCold v. Benoit on TV? I see that fu*kwad StoneCold so much, I wouldn't pay to see that corn-popper to fight anyone. Heck, we've seen him fight everyone worthwhile anyways. OK..this ends it for now.
