He's currently recovering at his home, and he is projected to return to ring action in approximately six months. The names announced to appear included Jerry Lawler, Jimmy Hart, Rock and Roll Express, Moondogs, Fabulous Ones, Jackie Fargo, Kamala, Sputnik Monroe, Road Warriors, Bushwhackers, Bill Dundee, Jimmy Valiant, and Rocky Johnson! The main event will be a battle royal in which the winner drives away in a 2002 Cadillac Escalade. Tickets go on sale this Tuesday at the Coliseum. Also, on a programming note, next week's show airs one hour earlier at 10 a.m. This week's show featured footage of Tojo Yamamoto as well as a "Battle of the Videos" featuring music videos with Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Hart both singing. The dedication to his profession is as ferocious as his steely in-ring persona would indicate. And, from a personal standpoint, as I've gotten to know him over the past year I can say the guy is as genuine as possible. The Edmonton-raised World Wrestling Federation superstar is at the top of his game, having just this week captured the tag-team championship belts with former adversary and fellow Canadian, Chris Jericho, in a tremendous matchup against "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Triple H. Not only would we have no houses or buildings, we wouldn't have probably the best matches of our generation! There's a long, long list of men who've interacted with ladders who made a name for themselves using those primative inattimate objects. To name a few, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Jeff & Matt Hardy, Edge and Christian, Tommy Dreamer...my heavens. You've got stairway to hell matches, TLC matches and so many more that have brought joy to so many homes. Would HBK be that popular and have such a legion of fans at his beck and call if not for his ladder matches with Razor? Would we still get up and cheer for Matt, Jeff, Edge & Christian if it weren't for that fateful day at the No Mercy PPV many moons ago? Would Tommy Dreamer still be the innovator of violence without ladders? Probably :) And in what I think was the most monumental ladder match of all time was Hunter Hearst Helmsley v. The Rock at SummerSlam 98. My God. Everyone HATED the Rock at that point in time. He was in limbo and wasn't NEARLY as popular as he is now. Rocky sucks chants echoed arenas all ove rthe nation. Then, in that one night, the fans got behind him, and in the months following, his fan base grew, and it was all due to a ladder. I suggest to get yourself a tape of SummerSlam '98 and see what I mean. Back then, the ladder was still an innovation.
