Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== In the latest Alex Marvez column in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Jerry Lawler said that wrestling has always been the primary thing he loved about the business he is in. "In the WWF, I kind of got sidetracked into just doing commentary," he said. Lawler acknowledges the ratings drop since he left may have something to do with his absence. "I think what happens is some people didn't realize what a difference the announcing made to it. There's an old saying that you don't realize what you've got until it's gone." He said he still enjoys wrestling today as much as the day he started. Source// WrestlingObserver ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -After announcing the XFL was being discontinued, WWF stock rose a $1.24 per share yesterday, up 9% in afternoon trading. However, analysts say WWF revenue for fiscal 2002 will be $464 million, down from the projected $586 million. -The final SmackDown! rating came in as a 3.7 -There is talk of renaming the WWF's July PPV from WWF Fully Loaded to WWF Invasion. (God knows why) -The WWF has published an article on the recent push of the Hardy Boys as singles champions, but the pair comment on how they will stick together as a team. The WWF has already been planting the seeds of dissent with both superstars making small, unflattering comments about each other in their promos and not being there to help out each other in various situations. On Friday's Rush Limbaugh radio show, Limbaugh mentioned the folding of the XFL during the latter part of his first hour. Limbaugh referred to the XFL as an "inferior product." But the most interesting thing was Limbaugh noting how McMahon knew that the league wouldn't succeed, so the league was folded, contrasting it with a federal program that would continue to be funded even if it did not work. In other words, he was saying the XFL, a private sector venture, was folded because it was not successful. News, SLAM! ====================================================================== Article//============================================================= News and Notes from Jim Ross' Ross Report -Meetings were conducted here in Florida this week on Wednesday and Thursday with several WCW talents and prospective talents. Talents included: Mike Awesome, Hugh Morrus, Shawn Stasiak, Jamie Howard, Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson. Meetings were also held with Ricky Santana, Jimmy Hart and Johnny Ace. These meetings were all very positive, again, in my view and basically informational in nature. Awesome, Morrus, Stasiak and Howard will be reporting to Memphis Championship Wrestling (MCW) in Memphis later this month. None of the others are currently under contract to World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, but perhaps could be in the future. As far as in-ring talents are concerned, Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson are two very positive and talented young performers whom we are interested in. This concludes meetings with all our contracted talent except Lance Storm, who I will meet with when we are in Calgary later this month. -We still have no confirmed start date for the first WCW TV broadcast but all indications are it will be in the next two months. Extensive strategy discussions are ongoing and progress is evident. We are probably moving too slowly for some; however, we want to present the very best TV product we can from the outset, assemble a talented staff and make sure, most importantly, that we make the best decisions on the talent roster itself. Doing this right takes time and substantial planning, obviously, and that's what we are doing. I personally was a part of the unwarranted destruction of the UWF when Crockett Promotions (NWA) bought it, and we cannot allow this to happen with this project. I am very pleased with the quality of individuals we will have on the WCW roster when it is completed. Mostly young, very athletic and hungry -- all great traits to build from. -My personal thoughts are with Tazz and his family during a difficult and challenging time. This strong family will endure and, hopefully, Tazz will be able to resume his broadcasting duties Sunday on MTV's HEAT. -From my perspective, Monday's RAW IS WAR was not one of our better broadcasts. Certainly no lack of effort, but it was just one of those nights that did not come together for a variety of reasons. SmackDown!, however, was a very solid show and I especially like the backstage stuff with the Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and company. The crowd in Hartford also seemed to be into the show, which really helps the product. -Columbus, Ohio, has been postponed this Sunday (Mother's Day) until Sept. 24 when RAW returns to that city. This will give our talent a much-needed weekend off and the opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day with family. -Matt Anoai and Eddie Fatu are really doing a good job in Memphis. This young team has a ton of potential. -I will be in Louisville, Ky., Tuesday for SmackDown! and Wednesday for Ohio Valley Wrestling's TV taping. I am really proud of the effort these young talents put forth in OVW, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this group will produce some top hands in the very near future. -Russ McCullough is getting very positive reviews in Puerto Rico's IWA. The 7-footer is working hard and that's where it always starts. -Sorry to see the XFL cancelled, as many of us loved the concept, but it was the right decision for the company. -More within the company seem to be getting interested in the Federation light heavyweight division. We really have some great talents in this weight category. Why can't it work? (naidO's note: Because you have conditioned your fans to not believe in the characters) -Spike Dudley has contributed very positively to the Dudley Boyz presentation. Great attitude. -Paul Bearer will soon be going on the road to observe all our developmental territories. I am very pleased with the job Paul, along with Dennis Brent and Bob Clarke, are doing in this very important area. This is another area that is being focused on within talent relations in hopes of making significant improvements in the next few months. -Bruce Prichard has left talent relations to work full time with the creative arm of the company. -No return date has been determined for Scotty 2 Hotty from the injured list. -Our condolences to Faarooq and his family for the unexpected death of his brother. -Tough Enough ends taping today for a June launch on MTV. I have not seen any footage yet; however, I am told everyone is ecstatic with the content. Al Snow, Tazz, Jacqueline and Tori have all done a superb job with this project and will, hopefully, benefit from the weekly exposure the new TV show will provide. -My instincts tell me Monday's RAW in Cincinnati will be hot and should be an intense broadcast. Obviously, May 20's Judgment Day will be the focus. Well before I get into that let me say goodbye. Just for 3 weeks. I am off to the Middle East for school, so I'll be searching for mummies in Egypt and not here to watch RAW and Smackdown. So now on to this week's TV and what is there to say? The only thing I kept hoping for was that Mick Foley was going to turn heel and attack Rakishi. No such luck, and the face turn for the big man kind of left me bored. I really hope that WWF TV picks up in the next few weeks and summer programming is better when I return. So our other choices for this week are: the XFL folding...yawn, the whole Benoit/Angle Medals feud...yawn, and finally this one...the angle between the Hardy Boyz and this week's winner Eddie Guerero Why on earth did Eddie screw himself over? Why did he save Lita? I kept thinking that the WWfF was trying to push Chyna as a heel, but now I am starting to wonder. Could Lita turn on the Hardyz and join Eddie?
