Thanks for reading. naidO// ====================================================================== TOP HEADLINE//======================================================== USA Network wants $30M. before wrestling returns That's the roadblock the Universal Studios group, with plans as having Hulk Hogan as their headliner, has been in hit with in negotiations to get a timeslot on the network. USA agreed to having Hogan to be the lead wrestler in the proposed new company but that wasn't enough. Bottom line, what USA wants (from any wrestling company wanting on) a $30 million bond (or deposit) and a guarantee of five years of programming. If the five years doesn't happen and the new promotion folds, USA would get the $30 million. This of course stems from what the WWF did to the USA Network late last year by heading to higher ground and the CBS/Viacom deal. Needless to say, the Universal/Hogan group pulled out of negotiations with USA late last week after weeks od negotiations. While it is widely thought that a compromise will happen, it's hard to imagine with $30 million staring you in the face. Source// 1Wrestling ====================================================================== News from the WWF//=================================================== -Golden transition for Rhyno and Lynn After wrestling for a number of years in ECW, both of these superstars made the jump to the Federation, and so far, it's been a smooth transition. They both are extremely talented, and have not wasted any time in gaining Federation gold. To continue this article on Rhino and Jerry Lynn, http://www.wwf.com/news/headlines/1054220 -Here is the current card for the WWF Judgment Day Card pay-per-view: *The Undertaker vs. Steve Austin for the WWF Title. *Triple H vs. Kane, possibly in a gimmick match. *Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle, w/ the gold medals on the line. *Chyna vs. Lita for the WWF Women's Title. *Eddie Guerrero vs. Rhino for the Hardcore Title. *Test vs. The Big Show. *As always, the line-up is subject to change. -Ring announcer Tony Chimmel announced before the Heat taping last night that the matches would be seen on MTV. That would make it appear that last week's interview show with HHH and Steph was a one time thing. -Smackdown! scored a 4.1 rating in the Prime-time Nielsen ratings last week (April 30 to May 6 time period). That's up from the real disappointing 3.7 the week before but still below what is expected of the show. Smackdown! came in at 76th place out of 131 shows. The top shows were the finale of Survivor II (20.1, 20.6 million homes) and Survivor II: The Reunion (16.0, 16.4 million homes). The rating is the percentage of the nation's estimated 100.8 million TV homes. Each ratings point represents 1,008,000 households. -According to the WWF website, this Sunday's house show event in Columbus, Ohio has been rescheduled for a RAW, set to take place on September 24. Fans will be allowed to exchange tickets starting August 20. The show was cancelled due to "WWF Superstars injuries" -Variety.com reports Vince McMahon told prospective and current ad buyers at "Upfront 2001" yesterday that he is negotiating with the WB network to air XFL football. The WB network says it wants no part in airing the games. McMahon said if the XFL doesn't get a Sunday afternoon timeslot, it would go out of business. Variety also reports negotiations with TNN to carry WCW are still ongoing, but are stalled because the WWF hasn't signed stars like Goldberg and Sting. -The WWF held "WWF Upfront" at the WWF NY last night. It was basically a schmooze-fest for current and prospective advertisers. Here are some of the more interesting notes out of the event: WCW: They have reverted back to the "old" WCW logo. They also showed a new WCW commercial that featured Lance Storm, Hugh Morris, Evan Karagias and Miss Hancock. Superstars in attendance: Vince, Linda, Shane & Stephanie McMahon, The Rock (via satellite from the set of The Scorpion King),HHH, Stone Cold, Debra, Chyna, Kurt Angle, Kane, The Dudleys, Edge, Christian, The Hardys & Lita. -The idea of having Tajiri debut with vignettes might be scrapped. It's a great read. -At the end of the L.A. Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings game on TBS, they went to interview Shaquille O'Neal and the announcer said that he had earlier talked to wrestling superstar Goldberg. Then they asked Shaq if Goldberg could have stopped him tonight and Shaq said no. As irate as that made the Billion-Dollar Princess, it made Triple H even madder, since the Game was not at the arena to help his wife. This Thursday on UPN's SmackDown!, Triple H will most definitely be at the arena, and he get a chance to exact revenge on the 400- pounder, when Rikishi and the Game square off one-on-one! These two former business partners will meet head-on on SmackDown! -- and someone could get a Stink Face! Several other matches have already been signed for Thursday's show. Edge will meet Chris Jericho, while Christian battles Chris Benoit. Also, Rhyno defends the Hardcore Championship against Bradshaw, and Lita will team up with the Hardys to battle Bull Buchanan, Goodfather and Ivory in six-person tag action! Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, Commissioner Regal and Mr. McMahon are also expected in the house this Thursday on UPN -- it's SmackDown! Check your local listings for time and channel! ====================================================================== Comment//============================================================= Leno's Top Ten List - By Leno This is a response to the near universal opinion that Steve Austin is look'in pretty weak these days because he always has to be saved. Either Vince, HHH, or anyone else always prevents Austin from losing his title RIGHT after Steve is hit with his opponent's finishing move. Here it is: Steve Austin reminds me of the late 80's Flair, who also always had to be saved. There was also a World Championship at stake, and the bigger, badder man was actually protecting the weaker Champion (alla Anderson/ Flair). Why is this so? Why is HHH, who could be champ himself protecting Austin? Top Ten Reasons Why HHH is Protecting Austin 1. HHH retains Austin's ability to clean really really tough stains. He thinks that bald guys with earings have a better chance. 2. He thinks that Austin 316 is Steve's pin number...and wherever that money is coming from, let's just say that Hunter Sr.'s new piss bag is always fresh. 3. ...those x-tra loooong showers with Debra. 4.
